Hugh Mughnus
Thanks for the heads up, I grabbed a little something. Much more curious about Boomkat's EOY list. I think boomkat's will be infinitely more interesting, and much less self interested than blerp. Looks like they're trying to move some stock to me lol. sweepstakes
That Sophie album had an interesting song or two but was overall wack af. C'mon bloopHate to say it but I'm inclined to agree. Pony Boy and Faceshopping eviscerated and that slow liquidy one was aight, but the rest I wouldn't mind never hearing again. C'mon bloop I actually really like the whole record - probably in my top 20 of the year - but jfc, just press it to black vinyl and stop trying to charge $30 for one LP. A bit? That shit's been out of control for years. Agreed, lot of redundant limited editions and needless re-issues. Christ, and that's coming from someone who likes tape releases. That shit got out of control too. Didn't know Pariah had an album outI instabought this when it came out based on his R&S singles. Dang was I in for a surprise. I had a really tough time accepting that it wasn't bangers like "Detroit Falls" but once I recalibrated, I came to enjoy it alright. I haven't really revisited it since the summer though. He's having an 0pn phase for sure. A lot of house and post-dubstep/garage producers have moved to more ambient territory. Throwing Snow, Djrum, Ital Tek, Daniel Avery put out stuff with less percussive focus. Interestingly some ambient producers are moving away from drone - Steve Hauschildt's album this year was straight up 90s IDM-esque goodness. joshuatxuk
I've not heard of 3/4 of those folks. I'm too old for the blerps. Not heard at all Chris Carter Kamaal Williams Paper Dollhouse Seen name only, will probably check out Tirzah SOPHIE and Yves Tumor - I appreciate what these albums are doing, some great tracks even if they are overhyped. Compared to a plethora of other higher profile "indie" musicians these are worthwhile. Skee Mask and Pariah were excellent I've heard older Marie Davidson from her Holodeck Records days - it's solid coldwave / 80s darkwave revival stuff but nothing really notable IMO. I rather listen to Chromatics or darker more interesting stuff like Forever Grey Khruangbin was my AOTY
Rubin Farr
Maybe blerp should have called it Top Ten AOTY 2018 (that we stock). I bet every title they hear is just the shit they sell.
hello spiral
Bleep's top ten albums of 2018 To be fair they couldn't really get away with pressing the whole fucking boxset again in marbled aubergine or whatever
joshuatxuk
'working class woman' epitomizes everything I dislike about current dance music. just had to admit that somewhere. I'm skimming though the album and it epitomizes how safe a lot of great acts become once they jump to bigger indies - Ninja Tune, 4AD, even WARP - often the critical acclaim goes hand in hand with this belated recognition of an artists who had superior older albums on smaller labels that were overlooked and underrated.
