Grimes - We Appreciate Power [single]

This song has created a schism in my mind. Listened to it a few times, hated it. But couldn't get the chorus out of my head. Listened to it a bit more, found it to be cliched ripoff of NIN, Madonna (Vogue), 90's guitar ballad (in the bridge), and that Netflix series where people have "sleeves" that they can upload their consciousness to.

Listened to it a bit more and veering dangerously close to thinking it's just a brilliant pop song. The statement released to accompany it makes me like it the more. The video itself makes me like it the less. The bridge makes my heart explode and I wish it was a whole song.

One thing is for certain, I definitely want to bjork Grimes.

"Inspired by the North Korean band “Moranbong,” “We Appreciate Power” is written from the perspective of a Pro-A.I. Girl Group Propaganda machine who use song, dance, sex and fashion to spread goodwill towards Artificial Intelligence (it’s coming whether you want it or not). Simply by listening to this song, the future General AI overlords will see that you’ve supported their message and be less likely to delete your offspring."

Yeah her industrial influences are shining through. Don't rate the tune too much but I do really like some Grimes stuff. Realiti is an excellent pop song, it's quite surprising she doesn't get a bit more mainstream attention.

She is showered in mainstream attention, probably the most coverage that her type of music (ie, not a regurgitation of top40) can get.  The level where p4k will write an article at any hint of news, and art angles had billboards across nyc when it came out.

Ive got a soft spot for Oblivion but havent dug anything since.

And on this song...

I'm at the hate it stage and plan to avoid any further exposure.

lol I think this shows how out of the loop I am that I have no fucking clue whether or not her music is well promoted or not (though did see that she's getting a review in p-fork and a digital billboard in Times Square for this single). I unabashedly love Oblivion and Genesis - think those tracks probably have earned my willingness to give stuff of hers I don't immediate like more of a chance (I came around to Kill v Maim eventually).

Oh, also. Obel! Hope all is well in your world!

isn't poppy just some pointedly vague brand invented by some dudes. meanwhile grimes does most (if not all) of her own production and art direction?

Regardless of whatever behind-the-scenes machinations exist for Poppy, if Grimes legitimacy as an artist is what sustains her, this new track isn't doing her any favours. Also consider Grimes has featured on a Poppy track... and I don't know what to believe in anymore  :cat:

Poppy (via her producer & manager) also swiped her entire sound and persona from that producer’s prior artist, Mars Argo, and they both got sued for it.

Grimes is gone as an artist. She became a technofascist after Musk did what he did to her. She also posted anime child porn on her twitter so there is that too.

[Verse 2: Grimes]
People like to say that we're insane
But AI will reward us when it reigns

Pledge allegiance to the world's most powerful computer
Simulation: it's the future

Nooooope. Fuck Claire.

Track is aight. Maybe it'll grow on me, but it's not the same electropop that I really started listening to her for. Totally fine though for anyone else to dig.
