Lofidelic Records on SoundCloud posted this live recording of Aphex Twin at Limelight NYC from 1991 or 1992:

Back in the early 1990s when techno was just starting to explode in NYC, I snuck a portable DAT recorder into the Limelight nightclub when Richard James, The Aphex Twin was DJing a very rare live set. I recorded his entire 1hr set from the crowd and then put the DAT away for 25+ years. The other day with the help of my friend Tony Rodriquez and his DAT machine, we finally made a digital copy of the set and finally uploaded it for all to hear. As far as I can remember, RDJ did only 2 live performances and 1 DJ set at the Limelight during that time. I have never heard a live set from RDJ from the Limelight so this might be the only recording of this set (please correct me if I'm wrong, thanks!) The recording is loud and noisy just like 90s techno but I think its clear enough to enjoy. If you can ID any tracks to create a track list, feel free to post it in the comments! Enjoy -Lofidelic Records

Saw someone chatting about this the other day. Their stance was it would be more like 94 based on tracks like "preacher man" and whichever Dave Clarke "red X" was on there. Ain't followed it through myself yet though..

Many of those tracks from a wide range of people were only available in 1993. Probably  part of the N.A.S.A. tour of 13 shows the final one was November 19th 1993.

Yeah, now that you mention it, it does sound very similar to the NASA sets...

The media have jumped all over this live in 93 thing in the last 24 hours. Can't escape it anywhere right now, 90s levels of cover on any Phex action up in the media sphere.

Someone should de-clip that recording. This took me about 10 secs and it sounds a whole lot better. The first part is the de-clipped version, and the second part after the beep is the recording from Soundcloud

Quality sounds pretty good to me...definitely listenable.  I'm going to say this is not 91' - 92' but more like 93 - 94 based on some of the track selections such as Wisdom to the Wise by Dave Clarke which was released in 1994, the Aphex remix of Mindstream from 93' among others.

That helps. I tried that and some other things, but I couldn't make it listenable for my tastes. I've become a mix snob in my 40s...

And... do you have this de-clipped recording perchance? :dadjoke:

Alternative for SC tracks without download is use soundscrape python script. Can get it at github or instaill it via pip

https://github.com/Miserlou/SoundScrape

Then you just run it with the URL you want to grab and it downloads an mp3

$ soundscrape https://soundcloud.com/phlite/aphex-twin-live-at-limelight-nyc-1991-or-1992

Well godarn, it appeared as if my phone went to sleep but audio was recorded lmao.

Just practicing for eventual live performance. I would live to do IDM/dnb/glitchiness sets. Tho too bad I'm in bumfuck small town Ontario where its not really popular.

Turns out improv is a skill. Any tips and or tricks? Like, there's a hell of a lot to master and practice I believe before I am ever ready and I don't think I'll ever get toa. perfect point, but with my APC and Push 2 I can try and get as close as possible.

Already using dummy clips on my Push 2 to trigger glitch fx, mainly thru Looperator, all set up within a device rack with. a few other fx, all macro'd to the rack.

Like, I don''t have the balls, nor the respect of other musicians yet to lie on stage with a cigar and hit play.....yet...and I ain't playing bass like Pusher...

I dunno where this post is winding up right now lol.

Should I even live perform? WIth COVID lookin like shit is shut down for a while, but is like live glitchy/idm/dnb a popular thing to go to?

Thanks to @joshuatxuk for this excellent heads-up.   Originally released on limited edition cassette for BEER ON THE RUG in 2015. track 19 is an added bonus track from Catalog sessions not on original release   This will go some way to keeping fans of Sweden's Axel Backman (1991) happy. This is misty-eyed ambient and new age nostalgia, catatonic, detuned idents and pre-internet graphical demo attract sequences. It's absolutely lovely.

Thanks to the generous folks at WARP, I've got two tickets to Aphex Twin's show in New York City at Avant Gardner on 11 April 2019!

To enter the giveaway, all you need to do is reply ONCE to this thread and on this Friday, 18 January (the day the general admission tickets go on sale) I'll pick a winner at random. In the case the winner is not bringing anybody, the second ticket will be offered to a second randomly chosen person.

You can also sign up via Aphex Twin's Bleepstore for advance ticket sales: https://aphextwin.warp.net/nyc

I'll PM the winners and get their contact info to forward onto WARP so you can be put on the guest list!

      Rules:
You must be a registered member on this forum - if you're not registered, register and you can then enter the contest. Post ONCE in this thread - don't spam the thread and make me sort/count more than I need to. DO NOT register duplicate accounts - if we catch you, you'll be disqualified. What to post? Post why you'd like to see Aphex in NYC, or what you're hoping he'll play, etc. Please no one-word posts or anything rude, etc. This thread will close on Friday, 18 January at 4:00 CT and the last post in thread I will announce who won shortly afterwards. Please do NOT post if you cannot or have no intention of being able to make it to NYC for the show. Anybody thinking of turning the tickets around on eBay, etc.- forget it. You're being added to the guest list for the show by WARP themselves, so that's not gonna work. If for some reason the winner(s) cannot make it, please contact me ASAP, and I will pick another random winner(s) and let WARP know the change in attendees.
