Candiru
Even hippies from Sweden are xenophobes then. I just thought he came across more legit in the debate. I don’t doubt he says sketchy stuff. Edited April 27, 2019 by Candiru

I don’t know where all the “they agree on everything” comments I’ve read came from. He gave JP enough rope to hang himself, he was just way too polite about it. Goddamn, JP had a conversation with Joe Rogan on his own podcast and he addressed this debate. Holy fuck, it had me in stitches because it had that new meme format that goes like no one: literally no one: "you know I had a debate recently with Zizek because I thought he was a Marxist but to my surprise, he's actually a Hegelian" and then there were just fuckin' crickets from Rogan because like....wtf. Joe was def trying to wrap it up because it was 2 hours in and you could just feel the "cool story, bro" on Joe's part. Maybe I'll clip that part out to see if it's still funny enough. I did this one awhile back and I still like it

whosebrian
Quote If you want to appear very profound and convince people to take you seriously, but have nothing of value to say, there is a tried and tested method. First, take some extremely obvious platitude or truism. Make sure it actually does contain some insight, though it can be rather vague. Something like “if you’re too conciliatory, you will sometimes get taken advantage of” or “many moral values are similar across human societies.” Then, try to restate your platitude using as many words as possible, as unintelligibly as possible, while never repeating yourself exactly. Use highly technical language drawn from many different academic disciplines, so that no one person will ever have adequate training to fully evaluate your work. Construct elaborate theories with many parts. Draw diagrams. Use italics liberally to indicate that you are using words in a highly specific and idiosyncratic sense. Never say anything too specific, and if you do, qualify it heavily so that you can always insist you meant the opposite. Then evangelize: speak as confidently as possible, as if you are sharing God’s own truth. Accept no criticisms: insist that any skeptic has either misinterpreted you or has actually already admitted that you are correct. Talk as much as possible and listen as little as possible. Follow these steps, and your success will be assured. (It does help if you are male and Caucasian.) Jordan Peterson appears very profound and has convinced many people to take him seriously. Yet he has almost nothing of value to say. This should be obvious to anyone who has spent even a few moments critically examining his writings and speeches, which are comically befuddled, pompous, and ignorant. They are half nonsense, half banality. In a reasonable world, Peterson would be seen as the kind of tedious crackpot that one hopes not to get seated next to on a train. https://www.currentaffairs.org/2018/03/the-intellectual-we-deserve 3

ignatius
i hadn't heard about the benzo thing in russia until the other day when someone mentioned it. medically induced coma for 8 days. wtf. i'm calling bullshit on them not being able to find treatment in "the west". benzo withdrawal is well understood and tapering off them is common practice. sudden withdrawal is not recommended i guess that's why they put him in a coma. i mean.. wtf. you're supposed to take 6 months to a year to taper. it's a horrible experience. he's going to be well fucked up for a while because the central nervous system goes fucking haywire. sudden withdrawal can cause psychosis and be fatal. Brisbot
Jordan Peterson: Goes from self-help to analyzing Pinocchio archetypes in literature to saying that conservatives make the best businessmen and liberals make the best creative types, all in 10 minutes. He really likes to paint himself as the sensible centrist who can see how everything fits together from the middle, and you can too if you just clean your room and centralize your political leanings.
