Look at what EU parliament political groupings your local parties are aligned with. EPP, S&D, ALDE etc etc...

Well, there are groups that aren't aligned with political parties of all countries, e.g. DiEM25

Also, the European version of your local party might not be good only because this party is good in your country.

Haven't looked into it myself yet, but my general approach is to vote for the most boring candidate. Or in other words, the anti-populist vote.

People often don't seem to realise that boring politics is the best kind of politics. Because if it isn't boring, something's definitely wrong. So there should be comfort in politics being boring. That means there are no big issues and society is actually being governed.

Ignore ideology. Politics should be boring. Vote boring! 😉

Not seen who my European candidates are yet.

As an aside;

We have local council elections here this Thursday and aside from the Tory (who will win massive landslide) I had no idea who else was standing.

Apparently there is a labour candidate (not seen any posters) and a Lib dem (seen a couple of roadside signs) - no idea what their policies are.

Had leaflets from the Tory candidate and there are campaign posters / boards everywhere.

They have no candidates in my locality. It’s a nice idea and I would have a similar outlook to some of the people behind it (not all of them). Varoufakis and Srećko Horvat are standing in Germany.

I will probably vote Green/EFA

Not sure if it's a waste of one's vote to give it to some tiny party that's never going to make it. Maybe it's better to support the lesser evil of the bigger parties

Unless you think you can vote to leave the union, in that case don't bother. That option really, really, is not on the table. Anywhere.

The people who do vote actually get to have a say on policies on EU-level. And arguably, when less people vote, the people who do vote will have even more power. And EU policies do matter. Especially on subjects where international coalitions are important.

Yes man

I voted DiEM25, they have the most reasonable views (just like me)

They weren’t on the ballot here.

Not sure I’d have voted for them if they had been, but it would’ve been nice to have had the choice.

It sucks we don’t have truly viable EU wide parties yet.

The prognosis is saddening. Looks like the nationalist faction EAPN is stronger than the green one.

Despite the problems with the EU.....I'm wondering what Europe would look like without it? How quick to war?

I voted for the kid with the blue hair.

Seems to have been a pretty good set of election results. Conservatives and Socialists both lost ground, Liberals had a decent increase and will now be a big player in any coalition. Greens also did well, hopefully enough to nudge others in the right direction rather than having any direct policy impact. The Populists and Far Right seem to have done poorly in some countries and consolidated their power in others, pretty disappointing results for them overall - lots of people were predicting they'd see big increases and end up having a say in parliament, they didn't and won't. That spoofer Varoufakis failed to win in Germany too, which was nice.

Meanwhile in the UK

Boris will get in.

Chaos and no deal exit.

Will there be a general election in the UK between now and october or is it silly to ask such questions?

This was the highest turnout for EU elections in a long time.

We can probably thank brexit nonsense raising the profile of the EU throughout europe at least somewhat for this.

Which is ultimately a good thing. People engaging with the thing some despise so much. Thereby legitimizing it.
