Christ. Democrats needed to focus on including people into the party, not appealing to the people that will already be voting Democrat.

you realize you're talking shit about the dems, here

jon favreau on podsaveamerica was talking about voter segments and saying mobilizing biden voters is the play, at this point, because the undecided segment is not very large.

yOu ReALiZe that we lost the last election because 110 million people didn't vote? Those are the people we need to appeal to. The BLM movement has done more to get the vote out than the Democratic party.

yeah. that's mobilization, not necessarily persuasion.

BLM motivates more people to vote Trump than anything. It was a huge mistake for the Democratic Party to ideologically align themselves with BLM. They’re a revolutionary group, not a reformist one, and they misrepresent their issues pretty wildly.

They got people to believe that cops are constantly going out and hunting for black people to kill, and the facts just do not support that at all. It’s hysteria designed to emotionally manipulate and it worked like a charm. Ask yourself why corporate America was so eager to jump onboard the BLM train. Identity politics, intersectionality, and critical race theory are great for consumerism and the opposite of woke.

BLM is utterly misrepresented by the right, to a caroonish extent. it is really amazing, the disparity between what many people think of the BLM movement, and what it actually is. it certaily is NOT a "revolutionary movement." frankly i can't believe you said that.

you commit strawman fallacy by representing them the way you do in your second paragraph. why

The disparity between what left wing people thought it was, and what it actually is was pretty well exposed by all those stupid riots and who voiced support for them. Then everyone, even right wing people(and black people who have actually had to call the police before) noticed.

do you know how it looks when people refuse to accept that racist police brutality exists? is it really so hard to believe?

check out my hong kong protest thread, i've been vocally against violence in protests since before the 2020 american ones. the vast majority of blm protests are completely peaceful. their grievance is utterly legitimate. right wing groups and idiots have started shit at some events, but these are limitted. the right has chosen to only cover those instances. they do that because the right is a fucking racket and they needed an escape from covid news cycles that were destroying their base of dupes.

please consider that you could be mistaken on these points. you've put yourself out there a lot on this subject.

You must be referring to moderates/swing voters. Have a look at the data from this WSJ article (Wall Street Journal not Social Justice Warrior, mind you): https://www.wsj.com/articles/do-swing-voters-still-exist-11597755600

That was from August. Before the horrendous debate we saw.

I'm sure you'll say something like "that doesn't explicitly say it was influenced by BLM." Sure, that's a valid point.

However, Black people and people of color were key demographics in getting Obama elected, who were the same people that were targeted and disenfranchised in the 2016 election. Many are aware of that now. BLM (the group) released a statement recently that endorsed the Biden ticket. Remember that BLM also has a heavy amount of white people involved. A lot of them are also younger than 30, which has long been a demographic that doesn't turn out to vote. Also take into account that the polls mostly represent likely voters. Many of the previously mentioned demographics aren't likely voters. BLM is also one of the largest movements in US history.

So I think, given this information, the Democratic party has done more to convince their own base to vote for them (a group of people that were going to do that anyway) than to include outside grassroots groups.

I'm not going to debate with you about the statistics on cops killing BIPOC because we've been through that. The numbers are in and you're wrong.

Bringing up identity politics when it doesn't apply makes you sound like an old, surly uncle.

Over 90% of protests were peaceful: https://acleddata.com/2020/09/03/demonstrations-political-violence-in-america-new-data-for-summer-2020/

Quote

The vast majority of demonstration events associated with the BLM movement are non-violent (see map below). In more than 93% of all demonstrations connected to the movement, demonstrators have not engaged in violence or destructive activity. Peaceful protests are reported in over 2,400 distinct locations around the country. Violent demonstrations,4 meanwhile, have been limited to fewer than 220 locations under 10% of the areas that experienced peaceful protests. In many urban areas like Portland, Oregon, for example, which has seen sustained unrest since Floyd’s killing, violent demonstrations are largely confined to specific blocks, rather than dispersed throughout the city (CNN, 1 September 2020).

the only people being violent at these protests are the cops and outside agitators.  this changes if you define meaningless property damage like smashing some windows or spraypainting, which is typically done by small subsets of the group, as "violence", which it's not.  if we want to call economic damage violence let's put basically ever CEO in prison immediately.  i wont take any shit of people calling the protestors violent and honestly i won't even hold them accountable on these edge cases where cars drive into the crowds and technically do nothing but then pull guns out in "self defense" then get killed.  fuck them

My first thought was pink eye from an expertly-placed cumshot by big T a few nights earlier.

these debates are proof that politician is probably like the only profession where you can show up to a job interview and openly lie, ramble on, act arrogantly, and not actually answer any simple question and still have a shot at getting the job.
