yeah no joke. wildfires, kobe died, corona, AND fucking trump gets re-elected

I'd argue that it's a coin flip at this point. Too early to be sure right now though.

damn i can't wait for "the bernie bros will cause biden to lose" story for the next 7 months.

i would love covid to attack biden

I'm not fond of the incumbent nor his now-confirmed opponent in this race. But I still don't wish this plague on anyone.

you're right. that was callous and harsh of me. I don't wish that. I take it back. I was feeling sad about bernie and I lashed out and said something i shouldn't. mea culpa.

still boggles my mind that in the past 4 years the dems couldn't come up with anyone halfway decent to run against the most incompetent president in modern American history. IMO every one of the 2020 candidates were flawed in major ways that left their odds at more or less 50/50 vs. trump.

really sucks because I don't like Biden either.. but what choice do I have?

well, bernie being in the campaign was hurting the economy. as soon as he suspended his campaign, the market began to surge. this is why having a choice is bad. if you choose what everyone else doesn't want- it goes against everything

those bernie bros sure can be "a tremendous force" and not such a nuisance when you need them

there's plenty of Bernie supporters that aren't assholes. and Bernie's going to be stumping for Biden soon enough i promise. will he be a turncoat on his own brand then?

but already today i've seen more than a few 'well i'm just not going to vote this time i guess, hope it all burns down, never liked the Democrats anyway fuck'em'

can't say i blame them. he was blamed for his (supposed) toxic supporters- he was constantly asked to drop out, and now, he supposedly didn't even praise biden enough when he did. and of course his supporters never liked the DNC. bernie's entire plan was to dismantle them- hence they were against him.

i almost feel relieved in that i now don't feel like i have to follow things as closely anymore. hopefully, biden's supporters picked the right guy

it's so crazy with so much at stake. 4 more years of trump will probably lead to major deregulation of environmental laws/accountability, reproductive rights undone etc etc etc.. it's crazy.

bernie needs to get out and make it clear along w/other progressives that best chance for any kind of reform is w/biden.  even if sometimes he has to frame it as a vote against trump more than a vote for biden. people need to wake up to reality.

yeah except biden supported the hyde amendment. he only flipped recently but not because he had a reform of thought- but because he cannot win the democratic ticket with it.

what would really be heeelarious is if he picks hillary as his running mate, despite kamala harris being the "approved" choice

GG Bernie. Hope he can live the rest of his life comfortably after this dumb election is over. Retire and spend his days with his family, he's done enough for America.

Wouldn't Bernie have been the best candidate by far? I keep hearing that he's not the guy everyone thinks he is, but I really doubt it. Probably just misinformation, right

He's done nothing for America. What exactly has he achieved in his political career? Aside from preventing gun reform laws getting passed in his home state... He's been a complete failure of a politican.

Depends on your definition of 'best candidate'. 2016 election showed me that America isn't ready for a progressive candidate, and idk how much a country can change in 4 years. I think he did better than he did 4 years ago but there are too many variables to know if it was effectively better. I think it will be another 10 to 20 years before a candidate like Bernie will be able to win a Dem primary.

i think more americans are ready for progressive ideas they just aren't being sold those ideas by the media. establishment dems really freaked out pretty good this primary cycle. if there was an honest debate or discussion or presentation of those ideas in the media i think a lot more people would get behind progressive candidates.

I agree on the progressive ideas front, and Bernie has been instrumental on bringing said ideas to the forefront, but for whatever reason they aren't translating over to more votes for the progressive candidate, and it doesn't help when politicians like Trump pretend to support some of those ideas one minute and take it back the next. I mean, even the media constantly conflates Trump and Bernie. So much obfuscation. US politics is screwed up as others have noted. It's ridiculous how many people don't vote their own interests, but for a team.

He campaigned tirelessly especially for his age. At least he has the opportunity now for well-earned R&R.

I remain skeptical that a progressive platform will even see fruition this election cycle. Time will tell I guess.

i'm skeptical too. there's so much that would need to happen for any of those ideas to move forward in some way as part of DNC platform. but it's possible. i think the "back room deals" and talks amongst the candidates/DNC will shape up some things. a nudge here or there. biden's ideas are fucking dinosaurs if we judge by his frame of mind alone/quotes. but there will have to be some kind of reckoning "come to jesus" type moment for him. he's so old it's hard to imagine him going more than one term should be pull off a victory and get into the whitehouse.

He said a lot of things I agreed with, but took some very appealing policy ideas and branded them with “socialism” which was red meat for his opponents and enough to ruin it with large numbers  of voters you need to win a general election.

2024: Trump turns 78 (older than Reagan was), Biden turns 82 just after election and would be 86 in Jan 2029.

Meanwhile, Xi & Putin will only be entering their early 70s after much longer in power.

watched this frontline episode last night about china and xian jiang area and surveillance state etc. pretty fucking crazy, sad, scary.. there's a line in there that apparently trump told Xi to "use the tools of dictatorship to crush the fundamentalist muslims" or something like that.. in reference to the Uyghurs. trump so wishes he was a dictator. that's his endgame.. how to be a dictator.  it's a must watch. crazy fucked up shit. next president is going to have to deal w/keeping china's tech from infiltrating USA etc. seems to happening now somewhat under trump and previously obama. but it's gonna get weird and dystopian cyber punk in the next decade.
