Watmm's Drone Club

Recommended Posts

I've wanted to do this thread for a while. Drone music has many faces, but often hard to find.

I've never read anything in this forum about it, except for an old thread where the discussion was more focused into explaining the difference between ambient and drone instead of sharing rare and astonishing drone pieces.

Would be great if this thread turned into a nice thing worthy of his pretentious title!

I'll start showing what I mean with awesome drone music (in different styles)

Classic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMfGLNrLvGA  (sublime)

Less classic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP5DjYUCcUY  (heart melting)

Avant-garde: http://isakedberg.com/Λ.wav  (fucking incredible)

Anyone into this kind of stuff?

I have an unfinished drone album called TADPOLE DRONES which I may finish soon.

4 tracks total, will be about 35-40 minutes long.

Its one of the many unfinished things I am sitting on.

Abul Mogard is an obvious choice, but one of my favourite things he's done is hidden away on his soundcloud page from 2012:

Weirdly he lives round the corner from me and I occasionally spot him out and about.  So far resisted the temptation to shout 'great drones mate'.

This was great, thank you for sharing.

You should definitely (maybe) high five him in the street

Orphax from the Netherlands is consistent as fk, at the intersection of a few different styles/genres. Proper quality control with themes based around local landscapes, soundscapes & everything in between.

Good ol' Wound's droney classic has always been my staple

It's especially mesmerizing when you find out where the sounds came from

Picked this up this week. New band for me, although they were active back in the last decade and broke up in 2008.
This music is emotionally crushing - maybe not the sound you want to hear in current times. Still amazing.
      Boomkat describe it best.

Seefeel founding member Mark Clifford releases an EP of scraping, singing guitar tone experiments today on ‘Playback EP’! Some fascinating textures and novel wrangling of harmonics for those who like to hear ostensibly familiar sounds from an oblique angle.
      Buy/Stream here:
      https://markclifford.bandcamp.com/album/playback-ep
A video for the first track ‘Blue-Fi I:
“The basic tracks for ‘Playback’ were recorded 15 years ago during a four hour session at Playback Studios in Brighton, and with a resident engineer more accustomed to recording Eastern European orchestras than experimental guitar music. It was a time in my life when I needed to break some emotional glass and the intensity of the sound in the studio succeeded in doing that. Over the following weeks I played around with the stems at home largely using a GRM Tools plugin. The tracks were kind of shelved with the intention of eventually finishing them as an album but this was never fully realised.”
