You can certainly be creative and push boundaries and still maintain an ethical stance - and to be honest, ethics are a personal decision but there is a baseline that most reasonable people understand is within the realm of good taste/appropriateness. There are appropriate times and places for this pushing at boundaries, and different ways to do so (Aphex vs VSnares approach to pushing at boundaries for example). In general, the community here is fine with the sort of limits that have been agreed upon and are generally upheld.
