The Black Dog discussion

I can't get enough of these people. Over these past weeks I have been taking a deep dive into their discog again and they have some of my fav records of all time. Spanners takes the cake with Silenced as a close second. I love all of these projects so much. Music for adverts is defo the most underrated one of them all.

What is your favorite?

What is your least favorite?

What do you love or hate about their music?

Great! Thanks for the tip. I've been a huge fan since "Spanners", but I was obsessed with "Liber Dogma" and this past winter I had "Conspiracy Tapes Live" and "Conspiracy Tapes RMX" on a loop.

Looking forward to digging into this and the follow-up in a month!

Really remarkable how the opening of "Constructivist" sounds a lot like the opening of Autechre's "latentcall" from elseq 4.

The Black Dog is one of those weird cases (and I have many such cases) where they've produced one of my all time favourite trax that I've listened to hundreds of times (Otaku) but I've never listened to one of their albums

Totally echo these sentiments. This is the first Black Dog album that has floored me in a long time. Porn Shop is a gem, isn’t it?

Radio Scarecrow and Further Vexations are very good of their recent (oh wtf it's over a decade already) output. Some fillers, but the best tracks are amazing. I could listen to "Skin clock" 1000 times and not be tired of it.

"Cognitive Dissonance" of Post-Truth is such a freaking belter, too. One of my favorite tracks in recent history by any artist. Play it loud, and the sun just keeps on rising, again and again.

I never listened to PostTruth. I read some grumpy comments about how it sounded like old musicians tried to keep up with the new trends and that the old TBD sounds were completely missing. But perhaps I should give it a spin.

Post-Plaid Blag Dog always a bit hit or miss for me. But when they hit, they really hit.

Yeah, for me too; most of their albums are a bit of a mixed bag, but there are always some stellar numbers sprinkled across them.

And the new one actually seems pretty cohesive so far, got a nice flow to it too.

Fav album probably Tranklements (sp?) actually.

Hm, I never got into that one cause it seemed especially ragtag. Will try again.
