Also (if I'm being hypercritical) the track order seems a little off - The first track seems to jump right into the middle of things, and the last track also seems like it'd be better placed somewhere in the miggle.... I'd personally have it start with something like Xerrox Calysoid 1 and close with Xerrox Sans Retour

This is why I love the exclusively digital vynal life. I stuck the Vortrack fracture remix into the Be Up proper, I scooped up all of Machinedrum's scrap tracks and remixes from '16-'18 into an album and called it "Human Energy Companion", I slotted 0pn's Station EP into Age Of according to best flow. What.cd is a fuck, 2,211,078 dead tags. May as well make the albums you want. God is dead and all that.

what's with the CD issue not being at the usual webshops (juno). i can't buy the vinylz because I have the previous parts as CD and it would just mess with my vibe to get a discrepant format.

It's in stock @Juno: https://www.juno.co.uk/products/alva-noto-xerrox-vol-4/775774-01/

This album hums, crackles and pops rather nicely but if I’m honest I feel a bit underwhelmed by it. There are a couple of fine tracks though.

i wonder how @Alcofribas feels about this

i have the same ranking as you where 1 is clearly the best, 2 is "quite good" and 3 is somehow not quite up to par as a whole. imo 4 is just as good if not even better than 2. if 2 is "qg" i'd say 4 is "lush."

that being said i think 4 seems to make it clear that the project has some conceptual inconsistency. this one has lots of lush strings and big verbs and cinematic vibes which seems like it has nothing to do with the cold, digital crunch of the first record and overall it seems that 1 is the only album in the series that feels really tight both conceptually and in its execution. i don't think this is a fault on carsten's part or something - over the many years he's probably just changed his relationship to the project which is fine by me. but in a way for me xerrox 1 is kind of the entire xerrox project in a nutshell and the other records have felt like subplots or something.

still though, 4 is a beautiful record. maybe carsten's most lush work to date.

actually that's not all. We all know carsten has done eno covers before. famously on summvs. well I think that xerrox calypsoid 2 is a protracted cover/remix/reference of a long way down from another day on earth (which is a criminally underrated eno record) please listen and let me know if im crazy or not

Saw him play live back in the day in San Francisco. One of the better electronic shows I’ve seen. He had some great visuals going with the music.

New artist and forthcoming release on Alva Noto's label next year, single released today.
Quite stripped down and minimal, brings to mind Ø and Raime a little bit. "I like it. It's got that it's-a-cruel-world-let's-throw-ourselves-in-the-abyss type ambience."

Tracklist, info (including 3 live tour dates), and a single can be found at this friendly RA link: https://www.residentadvisor.net/news/44625
On mobile, too lazy to copypaste it all out. Whatever. Cool!

Also this is coming out on the same day as the other recently announced Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto album. Damn.

Sorry for the long title :^)
      Released on NOTON.
CD/LP can be purchased at https://noton.greedbag.com/buy/two-120/

On 15th November Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto present ‘TWO’, which captures the esteemed duo’s 2018 performance at Sydney Opera House. The concert saw the pair performing new improvised work and key collaborative compositions from their joint catalogue, which has now reached five albums, one major film score and an EP.

Last year the duo undertook a series of live events entitled ‘TWO’ at Berlin’s Funkhaus, Barcelona’s Theatre Grec (closing Sonar Festival’s 25th Anniversary), London’s Barbican Centre and Melbourne’s Hammer Hall, before culminating at Sydney Opera House, where their two hour set was recorded and edited down, forming this album.
“’TWO’’s pulsing, immersive live performance melded electronic and analogue instrumentation with striking visuals to create one of the most precise, beautiful and challengingly magnetic pieces we have ever had the privilege of staging. That Sakamoto and Noto are pleased enough with the recorded result to share its continuously unfolding, sinuous, questioning music with others is as singular an honour as it was for Sydney Opera House to host them." Ben Marshall - Head of Contemporary Music, Sydney Opera House.
Sharing a deep simpatico synergy, Alva Noto’s abstract electronic formalism contrasts and compliments Sakamoto’s exquisitely elegant piano finesse, which incorporates an individualistic take on classical, contemporary, minimalism and even a touch of jazz.
At points melodic, atmospheric, gently rhythmic, textural and spatial, audio headspaces range from intimate and serene womb-like flotation, infinite fathoms of dark metaphysical expanse and moments of devastatingly poignant beauty.
The sparing, subtle use of parts populating the mix belies a deceptively effective whole, which indicates two masters’ skill and confidence in being able to say something profound with an intentionally restricted sonic vocabulary.
At all times the album maintains a calm poise, and despite its improvised nature withholds an innate harmony and graceful order. Like two aural architects free-drawing, this is sound design for better living.
