TubularCorporation
Ironically, despite the big meme it became after he said it* Al Gore actually DID kind of co-"invent" the Internet in that he was an early supporter and was instrumental in getting the government backing that was necessary to bring together all of the small, proprietary networks that had been in use for a couple decades into the modern Internet in the 1990s. So he didn't "invent" it exactly, but it's still partially his fault. I wonder if Tipper clicked a Goatse link. *(he never said it)

dcom
I can't but be the assburger here (both literally and figuratively) and link to Where Wizards Stay Up Late: The Origins of the Internet, if someone's actually interested in the beginnings of this consensual hallucination experienced daily by billions of legitimate operators, in every nation, by children being taught mathematical concepts... A graphic representation of data abstracted from banks of every computer in the human system. Unthinkable complexity. Lines of light ranged in the nonspace of the mind, clusters and constellations of data. Like city lights, receding... And cats. Lots of cats. Braintree
It's kind of surprising that such a big group of nerds would love the music of ARPANET and have no idea what the name means. 13 hours ago, TubularCorporation said: Ironically, despite the big meme it became after he said it* Al Gore actually DID kind of co-"invent" the Internet in that he was an early supporter and was instrumental in getting the government backing that was necessary to bring together all of the small, proprietary networks that had been in use for a couple decades into the modern Internet in the 1990s. When I read "I believe the children are our future" I just knew it was a f-ing copy paste from the lyrics of a Whitney Houston song. Couldn't remember which one. But Google knows.
