So, a question about release date: I assumed (I know, I know) that when you pre-order the CD at a local store, the Syro credit card gives you the right to download the mp3 from Bleep on release date. I was wrong, and who knows where i got the idea, since nothing ever said that. I'm an idiot apparently.
I can of course rip the CD myself, but what irks me a bit is that the release date listed by the store for pick-up (and for everywhere except Bleep) is Sept. 23, rather than Sept. 22 on Blerp. I was hoping to download from Blurp on Sept. 22 and just pick up the CD a few days later when I have the chance.
Anyway, what the hell is my question? Am I correct that Bloop's release date is one day earlier than everything else?

That's what she said.

I think StephenG should work as world peace envoy for The United Nations. Any rough edges of any argument that arises he just brushes off and he ends up best of friends with them. It's very cool. I used to be like that, now I'm a snarling, cynical cunt!! Hahah. I must get back to being like that. It's a good way to be.
Seconded

Looks fake, no?
-
For your own sake, praise it to the moon
Hey, for all of our sake... we can't wait another "13 years"!
-
So to get the stickerz you need to pre-order? Is it the vinyl or CD? None will come with a regular non pre-order vinyl if I pick it up locally? NEED STICK
Does something somewhere say you get stickers? I guess you just get the "limited [to 5,000] edition" card if you pre-order at a store, but no stickers?

Excellent response Mr. Ooze. True to form!the tracks of our chosen overlord are fully marinated and people cry about a problem that's not even there
it sounds awesome on high volume with my unholy system, on wtf are you guys listening ??
I've found this all interesting. There is room to discuss different geeky aspects & opinions I hope.

He probably just lost the original .wav file and had to use an mp3 he fashioned just to play out :P
Yeah, he left it on a plane and so he had to rush the minipops mastering, so it isn't very good.
Seriously, thanks for all the feedback. Obviously there are diferences in opinion, which is interesting (even though I can only understand about 50% of it). There's no question whether Mr. James or the person who did it "fucked up" the mastering. He knew exactly what he was doing/choosing.
Maybe he wanted the mastering "loud" on minipops, since it would be the first single (and thus wouldn't sound quiet compared to other music or whatever), whereas he had someone else master the rest of the album with a different approach/emphasis/goal in mind. Just more baseless speculation though...
-
ouch
Not seeing that here.
Hey, what did all this mean btw? (There were a few others.)
I don't mean, "Is RDJ's face in there somewhere?", I just mean: Can a person w/ knowledge explain what this means to a non-musician? I noticed some ppl described minipops as "loud," and someone posted about why the person who did the mastering may have chosen to do it that way... hopefully this doesn't make it a stupid question. Can someone explain something beyond "it means the song sounds loud"?

been wearing out minipops.
Confirmed that I will skip that track for at least one month once I have the album.
That's why I won't listen until I've got it all. Same thing happened with another album I was really looking forward to. Still hard for me to hear the pre-released single as part of the album....
Funny album, this one.I found this list on reddit
- minipops 67 (manchester track)
- XMAS _EVET10 (metz)
- 4 bit 9d api+e+6 [126.26] (ATP Minehead track)
- 180db_ [130] (aka vibervived synth test)
- PAPAT4 [155] (singapore track)
- aisatsana (barbican/copenhagen track)
this is what we have so far right?
180db (number 4 above) is the so-called snowbombing track? I do not follow the youtube stuff, so forgive me...
-
These reviews are great to see! I'm not listening until the whole album is out and in my ears. I've avoided the crap quality you tube versions, so I have no idea what it even sounds like. Reviews are pumping me up though!
-
Heh.
Side note: As I'm listening to older stuff before syro, can I just say how masterful of a track vordhosbn is? Freaking amazing.
-
been looking at pre-orders, looked at bleep , $33 US plus 17$ shipping = 50$ US, suck a dick bleep. i have wasted too much money on your over priced shipping. would rather ship from the uk if i had too.
so i started looking for shops in Aus pre-ordering and a few places are saying might be available around the 19th if i pre-order.
but knowing the postal system i doubt it, still hoping for the 19th which is so close i can almost hear the snare rushes flying over the ocean to my ears
Dude, don't trip. Warp is making US edition ones that don't need to imported, no? Isn't this what they do now and have for a while? Just pick up at local shop.
Calculating in US dollars, checking shops in Australia. Either way, shipping to the sun is expensive.

Well by that criteria then I think Analord is amazing as Joyrex put it. But another person could be like: You gotta like at least half of it for it to be amazing. Then it's running awfully close for me. I may now need my ears reconfigured if that's the case.
Hey, it's all opinion in the end anyway. Well, actually technical prowess and creativity both have some objective qualities to them (even if not subject to measurement), but whether tracks are great/good in the sense of "this makes me want to punch the air," well, opinion, ya know?
I mean, it's kind of like Kanye... What does everyone here think about Kanye?
-
The Analord series is top notch both because it is such a large collection of quality music, and because it contains at least a handful of truly amazing tracks, many great tracks, and very many solid, good tracks -- all of which come out of some serious mastery of analogue equipment that not many (if any) others could come close to pulling off.
-
That's why he released it under AFX.am i the only one that didnt like the analord series and doesnt have that high expectations?
?
i think he was more proud of his Analord series than anything else since he kept doing music in the same way ever since,
i hear you, Analord was a radical change and not everyone enjoyed it, but to me it was revolutionary,
the eclecticism of this selection, the complex melodies, and the FUCKING SOUND QUALITY !
anyway, question of taste but AFX/RDJ whatever doesn't chose his names like this, i mean lol
you obviously don't know the full story
Not all Analord is AFX anyway... Analord 10 is Aphex Twin, and those are pretty standout tracks, worth checking out even if you don't like the rest of the series.
^^^This
And hence, no "13 years." This is the hill I die on.
-
Seriously ppl. Esp with one of the probably like five hardcore female afx fans in the world. Respect!Don't be cunts.
-
Heh, love it.
One of the best Analords too.
-
London next Friday? I could make that.
"And your name is?"
"Jasond-...
errr..
Sean Booth"
If I'm not mistaken, at the listening party for Drukqs in the Netherlands everyone received a high quality headphone where the album was being played on + cushions and lounge seats everywhere in the room, with dimmed lights, etc.
Lush.
I mean, I just really wanted to say "lush," but that really does sound lush.
-
Slow down, ppl, slow down! I'm up to like page 129... it has taken me all fucking week to catch up with this shit!
jasondonveran's work made every minute worth it, however. (Though though that Kanye shit almost killed me afterwards...)

IF you care about audio at that quality... if you think iTunes audio sounds good enough, order via iTunes. That's what I did. I actually ordered the physical via Amazon.
Because 24bit wavI'm thinking of pre-ordering Syro through iTunes. I've been doing it for more than year for all my digital purchases. It's cool that iTunes download the tracks automaticaly to all your devices. And they're always in the cloud.
Could someone give me a reason why I should do it through blerp? I don't care about physical media, sorry.
Just out the bottle under the seat and let it roll.
not interested in the limited edition?
Depends on if I get a raffle ticket or not - you do know you DON'T have to purchase from Bleep to enter, right?
Honestly, if it wasn't for the obnoxious shipping costs, I'd go for the Japanese CD - that's the complete set, IMO.
so that means you're gonna torrent the bonus track like me eh joyboss, you dirty ol' pirate
Willing to pay $400 for a few posters, but not willing to pay $10 shipping for the complete song set?
I also can't stomach paying $24 for an import CD (to get one song) when all I want is the digital tracks though...
Would be nice if they could at least make it available for download in the US. (I only do non-DRM mp3, not proprietary iTunes.) Heck, make it an "album only" track and charge an extra $2 for the digital "import" album... or allow it to only be bought separately from the album, $2 for the "import-only track," or however they want to characterize it... Everyone wins I say!

The following is on Amazon Japan as one of the CD pre-order options, as translated by Google. Is there really going to be a CD with commentary? Can't imagine Mr. James doing anything like that... Bad translation?

has it leaked yet?
*checks inside leg*
nope
1. That itunes link isn't showing me anything but the 12-track US version. Can you help me here? Do I have to move to Japan to download this, or can I just book a flight that passes over Tokyo with 4G running? Anyone every successfully downloaded a Japan-only track legally from outside Japan?
2. Screw leaks. I hope it doesn't, and I won't listen if it does. Waiting this long? I'm not going to ruin my first listen by having "Hmmm, this sounds like Aphex... no this doesn't... I wonder if this is the same quality as the real one I'll receive in 3 days" running through my head the entire time.
3. Can we now safely write Syro NOT in all uppercase now? Seems that was just the way everything was entered into the tor site ("APHEX TWIN," etc.), no? This is life-or-death.
-
You guys are hilarious.
Such jazzfigured out the meaning of syro. its an anagram for "o sry," like he realized he hadn't released in a while
