I thought it would be helpful if we have a pinned thread here in EKT listing all the latest audio apps that either become available, feature price drops, or are especially useful so fellow music makers here can be aware and take advantage of new tech and great deals. In each listing, please include the name, platform, and a picture or YouTube video detailing the app, along with any links to iTunes/Google Play/etc. where the app can be purchased.

Our first compilation, We Are The Music Makers | Volume One came out back in 2004. Since then, I've always wanted to do a Volume 2, following the same formula of having the community contribute tracks, vote on the best tracks by the community, and then have a professional-pressed CD of the release. It would be great if we could do a vinyl version as well, but of course that costs money - the way we did it back in 2004 was by getting at least 100 preorders to fund the CD pressing. This was long before things like Kickstarter, GoFundMe, etc. changed the crowdfunding landscape. Now, we could do the same, or maybe go the Kickstarter route like we did with the Caustic Win…

Anyone into do it yourself kits and stuff here? Ive had an SSL G4000 built for me and im getting a pultec next, thought as ive got some free time im going to try something myself not really bothered about modular at the moment, its outboard i want so im going to attempt a few 1176 compressors from Hairball Audio http://www.hairballaudio.com/catalog/fet-rackand keep one and sell another and try and build up from there. aim is to end up being able to build kit usually out of my price range & make a bit of money on the side while im at it, bringing joy to friends who want cheaper clones I can solder, but dont even own a multimeter yet. yes im sca…

i was part of the beta for this and immediately was clear it's special processor w/unique features/sound. currently intro price at $19 and will be $49 once the intro period ends. it's a new company but the collaboration is like DSP allstars who individually make amazing stuff. Maurizio is one of the people who writes the Music and Sound Design with Max series of books. Aqusmatiq Audio was born from the fusion of brain cells of Amazing Noises (Maurizio Giri) and apeSoft (Alessandro Petrolati), joined by the invaluable collaboration of Diego Capoccitti. if you do a search in youtube, you might find this video about making a bass in fm: however, i am afraid that most of the videos on youtube seem to be tutorials on how to make a skrillex bass. however, a skrillex bass to me isn't really a bass, although it contains some bass fundamentals. i am a little old school, so i prefer a bass instrument to contain mostly bass fundamentals, for the purpose of creating harmonies and other syncopated events. I envision this thread to be a place where we can share patches or discuss getting actual bass sounds out of an fm synth, (also leads, fx, whatever) and produce some knowledge about the subject for composer…

So I'm looking into getting some more software to augment my creative process. I'm a complete noob when it comes to Max and a lot of DAW's as well. Is this the only way to get my hands on it and is there a cheaper alternative? http://cycling74.com/products/max/ I also want to use it with this because it seems interesting. http://www.dynamictonality.com/spectools.htm (also just logging this because I'm about to reformat today) I want to get Reaktor eventually as well. Do you think Reason + Reaktor + Max = a decent workflow? Is there overlap here? Suggestions for freeware/cheaper versions of Reaktor and Max are welcome as well. I was also co…

I want a nice double CD package, either jewelcase or cardboard. Maybe with a booklet. Who would you recommend, in terms of quality and price? I'm in the US. Can't trust Google results.

What's been activating your GAS lately? I've been stuck in a limbo where I know I need to upgrade my audio interface (to something with real multiple inputs—perhaps the KMI K-mix), and at some point get some good monitors (or at least something better than my logitech 5.1 setup that I've been producing with for the past 5 years or so..), but keep looking at ebay/gumtree/local sites/facebook groups with the hope of finding good deals on synths. My latest desire has been alternating between an analog/VA poly (for lush space chords) and something like a DX7 or CZ101.. I somehow got it into my head that it needs to be an all-in-one keyboard unit, therefore negating the…

Something that's been turning around in my head for a while. what kind of parameters are addressed when trying to keep cohesion on an album level. Some examples So I take it as naturally occurring (from experience) that inside of any musical (or any artistic) form an artist chooses to work in, their idiosyncrasies will naturally present themselves in terms of their "voice" or what have you. But, I can't help wondering what kinds of considerations are going into keeping the tracks that one writes in some sort of stylistic bounds enough to constitute cohesion on the album or larger level. The above albums as exam…

Wow looks good. 60 voice polyphony, 5 parts multi timbral (including drum part), fx per part, 64 part step sequencer, battery or usb c powered. Damn this thing is ticking a lot boxes. If I had the dough I'd get one. Nice design too. Maybe I'll pick up one second hand after 3/4 months lol.

Dominic Hawken, regular on Sonic Talk and host of his own mr. Wiggly podcast has passed away after a short bout with pancreatic cancer. https://sonicstate.com/news/2023/02/11/tragic-news-dominic-hawken-rip/ I feel weird posting this, I didn't know him personally but I always really enjoyed him as a guest on sonic talk and would also incidentally tune in to his more off-beat and personal mr. Wiggly podcast. A few months ago I stumbled on a livestream he was hosting with I believe a friend or relative of him who had been struggling with addiction and basically they were doing a sort of open recurring group-therapy session. It was somewhat surreal and occasi…

Since FLAC is an uncompressed format, it should in theory give you an exact digital copy, right? I've found (in my meager experience) there is still a difference when sampling. I'd imagine the sampling software/hardware you are using makes a big difference, what say you all? Who are the sampling geniuses around here?

UPDATE: I have found some promising software called 'AudioStellar'. It not only does a great job of accurately chopping samples, but it will also map them by similarity, similar to Atlas, however unlike Atlas it has some very unique and fun ways of triggering/manipulating samples. BTW i am not sure if someone mentioned it to me on here or elsewhere. https://audiostellar.xyz/lang/en/index.html I would love software that could accurately: 1. Take in many samples 2. Cut them up accurately 3. Then output them in a new folder as one-shots. The reason I want this is due to Ai plugins like Atlas that will map all your one-shots accurately by how sim…

Set up: Arturia Keystep, Midi Fighter Twister I love the feel of the midi fighter's knobs, and I definitely get the most enjoyment out of my sessions when I've mapped cool parameters to knobs that I can then just jam with. Problem is, I'm lazy, and sometimes the friction of knob mapping is enough to kill my creative spirit (my creative spirit is not very strong). Plus, once mapped, I just sort of have to remember what I mapped, and once I move beyond 8-12 knobs it just becomes impossible). What are your workflows or software or scripts you've found helped you? This side of buying a push (or buying hardware, which as far as I can tell increases the complexity qu…

Feel free to use this thread to post reviews of Reason devices, whether they be built-in or rack extensions. Or, just list what devices you have or use. I have various opinions and maybe insights into some of the devices which I'll share below. These reviews are very short and only reflect how useful I have found the device personally. I'm not pretending to post objective reviews about the devices, so my apologies if I'm too dismissive of a device which is actually great. If I haven't used something, it might not mean anything other than the fact that I have other go-to devices and it just drifted to the background. Rack Extensions …

fourier question 1 2
by Guest spraaaa- 33 replies

so I'm reading this book on quantum mechanics and it gets to talking about the fourier transform. I knew any wave could be broken down into sine waves, but I didn't know what it said after that, which is that you can also break down any wave into waves of any other shape - like, you could add up square waves or piano samples to make a sine wave if you had them at the right pitch, amplitude and phase. that's crazy! is there any software where you can do this? like, load up a sample, load up another sample with a cycle of a waveform, and decompose the first one into a bunch of waves based on the second?
