Our first compilation, We Are The Music Makers | Volume One came out back in 2004. Since then, I've always wanted to do a Volume 2, following the same formula of having the community contribute tracks, vote on the best tracks by the community, and then have a professional-pressed CD of the release. It would be great if we could do a vinyl version as well, but of course that costs money - the way we did it back in 2004 was by getting at least 100 preorders to fund the CD pressing. This was long before things like Kickstarter, GoFundMe, etc. changed the crowdfunding landscape. Now, we could do the same, or maybe go the Kickstarter route like we did with the Caustic Win…

I thought it would be helpful if we have a pinned thread here in EKT listing all the latest audio apps that either become available, feature price drops, or are especially useful so fellow music makers here can be aware and take advantage of new tech and great deals. In each listing, please include the name, platform, and a picture or YouTube video detailing the app, along with any links to iTunes/Google Play/etc. where the app can be purchased.

So I'm looking into getting some more software to augment my creative process. I'm a complete noob when it comes to Max and a lot of DAW's as well. Is this the only way to get my hands on it and is there a cheaper alternative? http://cycling74.com/products/max/ I also want to use it with this because it seems interesting. http://www.dynamictonality.com/spectools.htm (also just logging this because I'm about to reformat today) I want to get Reaktor eventually as well. Do you think Reason + Reaktor + Max = a decent workflow? Is there overlap here? Suggestions for freeware/cheaper versions of Reaktor and Max are welcome as well. I was also co…

Tim Exile has released a generative instrument called Scapeshift. Seems to be somewhat reminiscent of what I'd imagine is going on in Autechre's system. While the quality of the output is pretty incredible, I can't shake the feeling that anyone other than Tim Exile making music with this thing would sort of be cheating. When something is this generative, it feels like the artistry is in the creation of the software itself and any output, regardless of who rolls the dice (kind of literally here), is actually being created by Tim. I don't know, maybe I'm being naive. Either way, it's very impressive! As the guy in the second video says: "If you can't be jaff…

What's been activating your GAS lately? I've been stuck in a limbo where I know I need to upgrade my audio interface (to something with real multiple inputs—perhaps the KMI K-mix), and at some point get some good monitors (or at least something better than my logitech 5.1 setup that I've been producing with for the past 5 years or so..), but keep looking at ebay/gumtree/local sites/facebook groups with the hope of finding good deals on synths. My latest desire has been alternating between an analog/VA poly (for lush space chords) and something like a DX7 or CZ101.. I somehow got it into my head that it needs to be an all-in-one keyboard unit, therefore negating the…

Thinking about taking a break from making music with synths and drum machines as a hobby, but I still want to have something musical that is quick to plug, play, and practice. Used to play guitar as a youngster and am thinking of selling one of my synths to finance a guitar. Had a Mexican telecaster back in the day and want another tele. Did some research and watched a bunch of demos, and this one caught my eye, the Jason Isbell telecaster. Mexican made, but I read of some people reviewing it and playing it without an amp, saying that the whole body resonated very nicely when strumming. Has a nice worn in look that I like too. The Isbell guy is like a pop country kind of …

I have a boss metal core distortion pedal and a rme babyface pro fs with cables. I can connect my guitar to the input on the distortion pedal. I know i can get a signal boost for my microphone using a 25db microphone preamplifier that i don't have even. How could a "preamp"-lifier for any specific microphone provide a power amp type of boost as a "preamp"? By the "lifier"! As in amplifier in combination resulting in "Preamplifier". Right? Okay. A guitar preamp and or amp head would require a balanced out (direct box?) to go straight to the p.a system other than a connection that goes direct to a guitar speaker cabinet, correct? But, to enable…

Any favourites? I have always loved the sequencer from the 'big three'....just seems to work for me better than even the new sequencers when generating useful random rhythms... I see the mutable stuff has been ported on a number of occasions e.g. https://maxforlive.com/library/device/9129/poly-braids-1-1-1-hotfix-apple-silicon-compatible

I need advice in making a tone I made sound less harsh and easy on the ears. Try and imagine if this was a stock sound on a synthesizer. How would it be mixed differently? Do I need to use some type of special compression? The waveform itself may need to be looked at to determine what's best. http://www.mysterysystem.com/stuff/harsh%20tones.mp3 Things I've tried - looking at it on an EQ. If I were to add a highpass filter, I think it just eliminates the main tones I'm hearing and doesn't actually fix the problem. -Trying general compression and setting a threshold to where the signal is coming from, setting the attack and release various amounts. Maybe …

Does this deserve it's own thread? I'm getting hella gassy watching videos of it. I don't need it and, maybe it's better suited for hip hop beats? What's yalls opinions on this? Price seems respectable at about 675 Canadian dollars.

Ive had an SSL G4000 built for me and im getting a pultec next, thought as ive got some free time im going to try something myself not really bothered about modular at the moment, its outboard i want so im going to attempt a few 1176 compressors from Hairball Audio http://www.hairballaudio.com/catalog/fet-rackand keep one and sell another and try and build up from there. aim is to end up being able to build kit usually out of my price range & make a bit of money on the side while im at it, bringing joy to friends who want cheaper clones I can solder, but dont even own a multimeter yet. yes im sca…

Any ideas/takes on f*cking around with spoken word pieces & altering examples enough to be understood fully, or better, warp a spoken word piece into Stephen Hawking’s voice on 7 grams of mushrooms? Need just enough scope to fool around with for an intro segue for a new mix. Equally, text to voice emulators. All well and good but the few experimented with so far cannot get basic cadence to put the lines together adroitly enough. Issues: pacing, pitch, tone. 16 lines. Less than a minute. Gave up on the text to voice options (unless anyone has a take), whereas voice augmentation software & apps seem to allow for original cadence + experimentation = fu…

After a deeply introspective and emotional journey, I fine-tuned SDXL using old family album pictures of my childhood [60], a delicate process that brought my younger self into dialogue with the present, an experience that turned out to be far more impactful than I had anticipated. What's particularly interesting about the resulting visuals, is that they seem to be imbued with intricate emotions, and not-so-well-recalled distant memories. Intuition tells me there's something of value in these kinds of experiments. First video is Archaia's TouchDesigner system intervened with the resulting LORA. And second one is a real-time test (StreamDiffusion) of said LORA + …

Software that can track harmonics in a sound well and isolate them. Example: you throw in a piano note playing C, or any note. The software can track the harmonics, and be able to do things like isolating the Even or Odd harmonics within the sound as it plays and changes. If it has even better functionality and can isolate harmonics in more ways that would be even better. But I am looking for a way to isolate Even/Odd Harmonics at the very least. I just think it would be cool to run even harmonics thru separate effects than odd harmonics. As an example. And obviously you can take it further mathematically. It would be cool if you could type out what harmonics y…

Hello guys! Less is more? Or is it? I have coming to a conclusion that I don't like to buy more and more gear. The more around me the more time complicated it gets.. Even if I mostly have it for random jams, that is my therapy in life. This is the thread you go to if you had enough or you maybe want help with GAS? (Need a GAS-Mask) Im a specialist in finding bad things in gear people craving for. I think I will only like to have 1 Analogue Mono synth, 1 Drum machine and my laptop where the action happens. Would you like to have a Minimal setup? Imagine how much money you can save every year! Look at Autechre, all that shit they making is a lot and…
