42DIMENSIT3 e3 is underrated. it's one my favorites of the modern aphex era.

    Awesome Song

One of my Favorites as well:)

I heard this for the first time right after Forbidden Fruit 2017

:aphexsign: :aphexsign: :aphexsign: :aphexsign: :aphexsign: :aphexsign: :aphexsign:

It's an utter masterpiece. Weird and microtonal as fuck, but has so much emotion, those breakdowns at 1:05 and 3:20 are ridiculous, super sad in a weird way that I have never heard before, he really is the master of the melody, it just all works so well. Quintessentially Aphex, sonically strange and off-beat but still so human, it's all in the sequencing.

  2.

another underrated and under-listened to jam from dumps...

if you know of any others, post 'em!

The vox are so bizarrely satisfying!

Crazy to think this was probably a precursor to the Collapse-era old drum machine style. I remember hearing that just after Syro and being confused why he wasn't going forward but going back to old drum machines, now it makes perfect sense!

  3. that abundance track is fuckin lush

Ending just hits me out of nowhere every single time I put it on. Serious skills, like he's taken the greatest pads out of the SAW 85-92 era, the greatest melody out of the HAB era, the greatest drum programming out of the Drukqs era, and the greatest bass work out of the Syro/Cheetah era and just whacked them all into a few minutes, making this new amazing post-Aphex Twin concoction that sounds super new/innovative but super old/familiar at the same time, giving it this timeless aesthetic which really to me is the perfect way to progress his sound. He couldn't be more generous putting all of my favourite bits of his wide discography into some new masterpieces and letting us hear it, I feel spoiled,  Emotion is off the charts aswell, so so so serene and melancholic. Great track.

  4. If you want to listen to something amusing / frightening / lame listen to Slipknot's EP they did before Corey Taylor joined on vox. They had some lame Mr Bungle-esque funk metal tracks that were not good.

On topic though, Collapse is good. Been listening to it most days. Really like all of the tracks really - feels like a very cohesive selection of tracks - run length is good - and i'm not bored at any time listening to it. It definitely did scratch the itch i had wanting some aphex beats and i think i'll be able to appreciate the tracks for a long time to come. Abundance is the track i get into the least of the selection of tracks - despite knowing it is the lushest.

I feel the same way, Abundance should be my favorite, I'm a sucker for his lush melodies and Tuss/HAB-like vocal samples, the Tuss is some of his best stuff,  but not his absolute best, that would be Drukqs, and MT1, 1st 44 and Pthex gives me some of those dark, complex and intricate Drukqs vibes, so those are the ones I'm listening to mainly.

  5. If there is radio silence they've probably been quickly captured and hypnotized by Weirdcore's next level visual skills.

EDIT: "Weirdcore is at the Shoreditch site! Just on the side by the van."

Don't know if posted yet but i think he might be influenced by jlin yo guys

All comments before the official release date are immaterial.

OK, so lets do the entire thing over! ;)

Seriously though, I'm not sure I like the contrast of the militaristic 'footwork' highhat rhythms with the more typical Aphex stuff that's happening in a couple of these tracks. There are a couple of parts where this interesting stuff happening in a track, melody-wise and rhythmically, but then these militaristic highhats kinda ruin it for me. I don't think the footwork crossover stuff is a very fruitful one, tbh. imo....

Production is top notch though. This is quality work. Musically, I'm not convinced though. It has it's moments. But again, these footwork crossover things kinda ruin it for me. Not my tea.

    So yeah, discuss! ;)

No problems with the smearing reverbs though. hehe

Still digesting and processing it. All I can say is so far, after two full listens, I'm not hating the crossover. Maybe not flawless musically, but i actually like the mix of classic Aphex elements with the footwork rhythms. For the hats specifically, I'll have to take a closer look.

Whenever I question the percussion choices in a track, like I initially did with Marchromt, I thought "why have that weird sounding snare when you could have a normal snare?" And then I imagine Rich making it with a normal snare and then how it would sound and it would probably be a whole lot worse and he knows more than me so I just trust his percussion choices from now on.

5 track EP is a nice treat, 6th track and now it seems more like a proper body of work, in my eyes at least, probably the symmetry. Infinitely grateful, what amazing tunes, getting Houston Live version is so legit, been wanting that ever since I heard it in December 2016.

  8. Wonder if [durichroma] is confirmation of the MARCHROMT30A similarities I hear. By the way, four years later how do we still not know what the Russian lyrics to the latter are? Internet is slacking.

Yeah I suspected it was written around that time, around Syro release he said Marchromt was the newest tune on their, made me think it was made late '13, early '14, then he said in an interview for Syro that he just got a new analog rytm (spotted in Collapse vid), also the filtered drum sample behind the third bit in T69 Collapse is very similar to that weird snare/clap in Marchromt. Just similar sound design and they are both very good tunes.

ALSO LIVE VERSION OF COLLAPSE YEEEEEAH, love the solo melody in the last section, love the way just the bass comes back in huge and kicks you in the nuts, way better progression, Rich is such an overtly generous man, what a great surprise to wake up to, all I have wanted since December 2016.

  9. My fav parts so far:

The 2 bars of pads at 3:46 of 1st 44, how it goes into them is massive and the melody on the 2nd bar is so quintessentially Aphex it's a shock this is the first time he has done it.

The segment starting 2:35 on MT1, it's so dark and smooth and sad, darkest thing since Drukqs. He has a knack for making sounds that shouldn't appear dark and spooky appear dark and spooky, like the bitcrushed voice in Taking Control, this takes it a step further and makes that pulsating high frequency sound over every bar just seem ominous, crazy good stuff.

Ending of Abundance, perfect mix of a killer melody, this new percussion style he has got and pads straight out of SAW 1 era.

2nd half of Pthex, microtonal pads and mind-melting acid.

Such strong tracks this EP, a bunch of masterpieces, love how extensive and complex they are.

  10. Bought and downloaded the wavs, listened twice now... um... Abundance is okay, it has some through line, some center, some narrative. T69 Collapse is decent, the central third is still out of place to my ears.

I swear I'm not being contrarian, but I'm not much feeling this. Maybe just needs time to sink in, I dunno. Much of it sounds like he's just throwing shit at the wall and seeing if anything sticks. Okay for dance tunes or whatever maybe? Some grooves at times but ... I feel like it's missing that Aphex magic. Or I'm just missing it perhaps. Not even digging pthex. All very disjointed and so much of the sounds he's using, it's like a 15 year old just got a new sample pack or something. Just fucking dozens upon dozens of OH KEWL SOUND moments at my ears with no rhyme or reason. Maybe that's the point? If so cool but not my thing I guess.

JUST FIRST IMPRESSIONS DONT LYNCH ME PLEASE I love (some) Aphex I swear.

That was my exact reaction when I first heard CIRCLONT6A, now its one of my favourite tunes. Just give it time man, the tunes will get heaps better, there is rhyme and there is reason.

  11. can confirm it's at least stereo, but yeah, 96 khz. Fucking a though I have a feeling this is going to be extremely popular, it's really cool sounding. The primavera track has so much fucking detail in it.

at the end when it enters CCAI territory, those creepy reverb trails, bent my mind round 360 degrees then shattered it, awesome awesome stuff

  12. It's this

    It's out there

I use PayPal to buy from Bleep for that reason. Can't buy a lot of things from non US countries with my card without phoning the bank and letting them know ahead of time.

shit somebody cloned my card in Southampton and it's being used in India... That's why it wasn't working shit fuck

sorry about that lad, and also, it has leaked, to my ears at least, anyone elses?

    Indeed. In terrible quality though.

just makes me more excited, the tunes are monumental, when the flac gets released it's going to be mega wicked  :aphexsign:

Suprised to hear the forbidden fruit track on here that only a handful of people believed was a new Aphex track.

which track is that? (I mean, can you link me the youtube vid)

    It's this one https://youtu.be/xkAy-VaHiYg

holy fuck 96kbps really doesn't do this track justice, that sounds massive, I will have to wait to not overplay the tracks.

  16. What a beast of a track seriously. Syro-style synth noodling, Drukqs-like drum programming (reminds me a lot of Taking Control !), old-school melody and chord progression. Some time magic on top of all that and there you go.

I can hear why people might be complaining about lack of "innovation" in his sound palette but tbh it's just what Autechre seem to be doing at the moment, improvement over a sound design they took years to develop and finally enjoy.

You summed it up very nicely. It feels like he's taken every single thing that is good about his whole discography and combined it into 1 track with a huge Syro-ish analog aesthetic with enough tasty digital(?) glitches to keep you on your toes, the melody is absolutely top to boot. I can't get enough of how good the last bit is, with the lush ambient voice behind every 4 bars and so much extra percussion than in the live version. So much momentum, Drukqs-level complexity and such a huge electronic sound.

  17. he's a nostalgist who peaked in the late 90s. he's obsessed with gear now and has been for the last decade. if you're looking for innovation there are other artists. i think aphex has settled nicely into making extremely good electronic music that is still built around a pop framework, which is what he's always done well. his days of pushing the genre ahead are probably over.

While he has sustained the same electronic style for the last 15 years, and gotten very good at it, the thought that he won't innovate again is pretty absurd in my humble opinion. That is what this guy does, he has got 30-40 more years of making music (hopefully), he's probably already got some next-level material with all the new stuff he has gotten recently, such as the MIDI-mutant device, remember even this tune was probably made in 2014/2015 around the same time as Marchromt (that filtered percussion in the back of the mix in the third act really reminds me of the crazy snare in marchromt), so he is just throwing us some amazing post-Syro work atm, the dude has got the potential for absolutely fresh new ideas. I really don't think the question is if he will change the game again, it's when.

Analog Rytm mentioned, the drums do sound massive and analogy, probably made this tune in 2014 after that Syro interview where he mentioned getting one. Mind-blowing what he can do with gear like that. And at the bottom that is definitely MIDI-related, lots of stuff in the video is synced to the MIDI of the drums.
