  1. Between listening to the SC tracks, older stuff and Syro over the last few months, it's starting to sink in how *different* Syro is. Maybe it's just me, I don't actually trust my own ears or brain, but it stands far apart from all of his other stuff in terms of style/atmosphere to me. And the more I listen, the more apparent it becomes, rather than sinking in and becoming "another regular Aphex release", it's actually going the other way and sounding more and more unique. (Not that most of his releases don't have their own uniqueness, but you know what I mean).

Makes the thought of *new* new stuff even more ball tickling.

  2.

have to get this out my head sorry,

Circlont6a (Syrobonkus Mix) vocals sounds like MUSHAYED AAAMMM MUSHAYED

CIRCLONT14 [152.97] (shrymoming mix) is what i ment not been on this planet enough to remember names yet

I still think it's Mouse Orgy. I just know Rich likes to get a bunch of mice together, dim the lights and play Syro at them until they get their funk on.

  3. My grandad goes to school with Squarepushers sons sister, and he said Aphex is currently cloning himself so that that every member of WATMM gets their very own Rich to sit in the corner and make new, personalised albums every day.

Oh and he said a new EP is out this month, but I reckon he's lying bout that.

  4.

New version is up with a bunch of new voting options - Richard asked for a hidden 'most loved' and 'can't get into' vote on top of the public top 30.

Before I shoot out an email to everybody, can WATMM'ers please test + let me know if all OK?

    2015-07-05, @xfxf:

    • votes now automatically save (no save button). "reset vote" is now where save button was.
    • now supports additional dynamic polls
    • now supports making polls private (rdj requested)
    • two extra polls (rdj requested) - loved (10, multiselect, hidden), can't get into (10, multiselect, hidden).
    • original poll renamed to 'my top 30' (30, single select, public).
    • mobile and tablet specific responsiveness changed/improved, new UI for mobile
    • navigation/popup menus added
    • FAQ added, profile expanded on
    • many backend/frontend improvements
    • tracks default to random sort, instead of uploaded date. can still sort columns.

It got stuck trying to load 1st time, but a refresh sorted that out. Looking very nice, clean. Gave the "other" polls a whirl and they seem to be working fine, the only slight error (if it even is one) is on the Loved poll, it says 5 votes in the description thing, I'm assuming that should say 10?

Anyway, top work as always, thanks xf. Interesting times, can't wait to see what eventually becomes of this.

  5. That Syro effort is quite good eh. There's still bits popping out from songs that I didn't really pay attention to before, RDJ specialty. It's magic sounds. It's still sinking in that Aphex released this, and that it sounds like this, and that he's releasing more stuff...

    Yeeeeee-haw.

  6. I've stopped my daily Soundcloud track listening after over-indulging a bit, currently trying to filter it into Commuting and Chilling playlists, but I have been listening to some of the older albums again with fresh ears because of them. I have a new appreciation for ICBYD especially, not that it wasn't great before, but for some reason this SC gift has just opened my eyes to how well made the whole thing is.

Syro is still getting played and has somehow managed to avoid the dreaded "overplay decay", still sounds fooking incredible and exciting. So all things considered, whatever and whenever he releases something, if it's this year, it'll feel like a damn good Brucie bonus.

  7. All of those suggestions sound quite interesting xf, great to see it's still being tinkered with. I think the separate list that resets once a month sounds cool , but I wonder how many people would remember to go back and re-vote every month, might be left with a handful of people doing it. Multiple votes on a track also sounds like a very useful tool.

As far as suggestions go - how about a separate list containing only the "bottom 120" from the main list, with maybe only 5 - 10 votes per user. That could bring out some interesting results for the "lesser loved" tracks.

Anyway, thanks for the hard work maniton!

  8.

14 votes for mullberry bush and 8 for nutcrapper

    x-rays got 7 votes

    wow

    this is going well

    lol

Yeah there's loads of great tracks getting left out like

    tribaltronics

    backdrop trigger

    1.5 dp5 beats

    dsb

    bimbongo

    suzanne

    leeds orbit

    xame filtered

    world waver

    dronebreak

    red alert

    sallyvingoe

    etc, etc.

We have to be the change we want to see in the voters. But to b honest I doubt it'll make much difference at this point, the frontrunners are set in stone and the ones at the bottom don't seem to stand a chance. A lot of us are posting "so and so needs more votes!" but I guess we'd be lucky to get those songs 3 or 4 extra votes max, the rest are just from "once and done" voters, and I suppose there's nowt wrong with that either.

So, the real answer is - Just release it all, 20 Vinyls and a Shit Smothered EP on cassette. Nice!

  9. I want to give a little shout out to some of the "sub 5 votes" songs, because it might look to a casual observer like they are bad simply by virtue of the fact they're at the bottom of the pile. Disclaimer: I haven't voted for these tracks, so I am as guilty as anyone for them not placing higher.

Venus Squidge - Great, classic old Aphex sound, turns into a "headphones adventure" halfway through.

Dondo - I hardly ever see this pop up in talk, probably cos of the 1 min length. It does sound like an interlude, but it's so good I'd love to hear it expanded on.

Strange Rhythm - A dirty raving thumper.

Ny Groove2 - I do prefer the first Ny Groove, but there's nowt wrong with number 2 either. Richards got the funk going on.

It is easy to forget how good some of the lesser played tracks are, always a pleasant surprise when they come on in a random playlist.

  10.

This seems to me to explain why the new tracks aren't downloadable, and why the soundcloud went down briefly.

Funny that 80's Tite made it in there and it wasn't even his track and got deleted right away :)

    Good spot! Bit odd that...

  11. Thx for the extra votes, top stuff. Currently my "least popular" choice is Hypersquij with 4 votes. I can't see him wanting to have another go at tracks like the Luke Vibert remix, I'd rather see what he can do with the squidgier offcuts. Having said that, the top voted tracks are all generally excellent in one way or another so I don't think there'll be much disappointment with whatever comes of all this.

  12. Glad to see things still moving along, haven't been able to keep up properly but still spending most of my free time indulging in the SC gift.

While we're trying to big up our choices, you gents and gentesses need to give more love to 27 leaving home - Bradley and custom break acid 1. Leaving home has turned into one of my top 10 SC tracks lately, it's got some very interesting sounds in there that would sound sublime with an extra bit of mastering.

  13. I was thinking about tactically voting, obv there are the ones like Organ and Ibiza Spliff that everyone will go for, they are amongst my favourites too but I feel that everyone will pick them and some of the other great tracks won't get represented so much....

I thought that, but decided against it. Best way to get a true representation of "the best of the best" is just by picking absolute favourites, IMO.
