  1. the mood and sound-design is stunning but after a while all was already presented

exactly. this is valid for a lot of tracks on elseq. it is quite different this time from anything actually else they've released at least since draft, or probably ever (i'm just not that familiar with their output 4th to the 6th lp). even subrange 6-36 had just enough unexpected substantial turns to sustain a sense of an evolving environment. so. i take elseq as collections of scattered and isolated ae_live satellites on various orbits, microworlds, some life-sustaining, some self-indulgent, some stillborn, some precious and enveloping, you name it.

  2. I think they are a bit too much into the process lately rather than the output itself. It is easy to get pumped about sonic output after many weeks of programming when something exciting process-wise happens. I think they might have got a bit over-excited about elseq.

Also, to be clear, I have nothing about epic-length tracks (I am an art-rock/prog rock kid). I just dislike endless, repetitive, never-evolving takes on the same ideas over and over again without anything substantial to support it.

Once again, there definitely are great and fresh moments and parts on elseq (and some excellent tracks) and stunning sound-design (which the rest of their peers can only dream about).

    i concur

  3. That makes sense, as cat numbr is 512.1 to 512.5,

    Also elseq is 5 x 12"

so essentially the structure of those catalogue numbers is 5-12-1, 5-12-2, 5-12-3, 5-12-4, 5-12-5

  4.

    embrace it.

yeh, let's do. didn't they already state concerning past records the flac was the actual release? i think it's a cool statement fitting what they always were about: the music, exclusively. like playing live in complete darkness. not that i wouldn't enjoy a well made artwork like the next man but tbh usually i just shelf the vinyl indefinitely and listen to them 24-bits instead (yeah, i'm an idiot) anyway.

whoa, there. the whole reason this thing is even possible is because of the digital-centric platform they've developed with the Ae Store. there is no way we would be able to indulge in such an orgy of new material if they were bound by the costs and constraints of physical media. let's not work against that. there are exciting times ahead and I think elseq is just the start of what they could do.

a petition to Warp asking for a full physical release would be annoying at best and hampering to their new system at worst. they may release a compilation of the best elseq tunes in physical but you won't get the full deal, that's only possible with digital. embrace it.

    here here / agreed.

buy the really expensive super high quality WAVs and burn them to a dvd or something if you need a physical object.

they've given you the option to buy the record in high quality wav for a reason ...

and the same goes for high quality artwork

  6.

AE_LIVE is the 12th long play, and elseq 1-5 is the 13th. now ain't 'em

Maybe. Interesting to note that "c16 deep tread" is basically an extended fragment of one of the Ae_Live sets tho.

But somehow I think this might be a permanent departure from the traditional hard copy studio release under Warp, given their trends from the last six months.

which makes the overlaps between the two releases negligible. and they both have unique warp catalogue numbers
