  1. I used an aluminum one for years on a rega tt and realized it was prematurely wearing the belts and causing slip. Direct drive may be different since it *should* be low torque with a small moment but unless you have some warped disks, in my personal experience, I wouldn't recommend.

I'm not going to clog up the new release page bc I don't think this will appeal there.

This starts off with a robert miles homage then progresses more modern elements. I think it holds true to that classic deep vocal trance.

Some tiktokification of the genre isn't all bad in my opinion. Its good when good producers are drawn to it. TDJ, Narciss, DJ Heartstring are all solid. Let me know if there are adjacent artists.

He didn't stop changing and trying new approaches, this was one thing he tried, and I think did better on My Downfall

My Downfall, Detrimentalist, and Calvacade of Glee… are his best deep jungle breaks and baroque melodies in my opinion.

    *edit: + Hospitality ep

  4. I remember hearing October language - i never lose. Never really. That was a really cool ambient album, cannot say I’ve heard much more in that style that I like as much (e.g. Tim Hecker ultraviolet)

What does it for me is they use drones but it’s all for a purpose and not texture alone and the songs have a sub-5 min progression that keeps me interested.

I saw spectrum spools did a repress i think that’s pretty fitting.

Really cool band, i loved that album.

idk rental real estate but these are not on average high priced properties. that's still messed up

  6. I'm into TDJ mixes and originals on loop. Just heard her, and she seems popular from the past two years. It hits that late late 90s-2000s vocal and progressive trance sound. She mixes originals heavily. To me, its refreshing to hear this being made today. I think it keeps progression while staying true to the roots.

I understand there's a whole decade+ of albums and mixes from the beginning of the genre that were at the time totally fresh, why not stick to those? I get that the criticism for speed up tiktok remix style tracks and I might be off the mark there.

Maybe its pop, idk. Trance gets cheesy who cares.

These SPF mixes get into form going emotional to psy. If this is pop it doesn't matter, trance is the best. Its incredibly better than the stuff I fell disinterested in in the 2000s when everything was washed out.

    TDJs is a real one.

dnb jungle producers know how to hold back. I love how the tuned down kicks + pad combo + change up hats you feel like perpetually falling.

sparing but that keeps the pad washes special

that 'thin' nord-sounding filter sizzle I love it

    back to dubby house

What’s a good Alex smoke starting point?

I second the Paradolia & Incommunicado LPs.

Also his earlier EPs like Blingkered or ones on Vakant like Ring.Click.Tink or Shminimal ep. These are more tools and techno whereas the LPs are artist LPs

I'll admit there's a heavy minimal and 2000's sound with some snares that may not age well but in his library there's really cool bouncy basslines and spacey percolating melodies and that dumb tuned down singing voice I just dig.

These Blawan track got me back into Alex Smoke, there's just something about it. Not mimicking or even genre but the same vein. Way more shuffling less grid like.

  9. Does Blawan share an Alex Smoke vibe to anyone? I get his tracks are more techy, rounded sound design, and not minimal *house* but I cannot help but hear similarity especially with the slurry vocals and some bass lines and melodies. I dig it, I was a huge Alex Smoke fan he always had solid mid track payoff.

    Anyway this sounds dope.

This new track sounds awesome, subdued madness. I like the vocals added to the song structure in his style.

I linked these videos from hard islands demoing his studio and workflow at that time. I'm always surprised at the contrast between what is painstakingly laid out and the rough takes with parameter sweeps that make his style.

  11. Screaming In The Hotel Room

    2023: https://6ejou.bandcamp.com/track/screaming-in-the-hotel-room

^ I cannot embed album id for standalone bc tracks.

New track by 6EJOU who I only heard a few weeks ago but got into to the singles and eps he was putting out 2-3 years ago. I love the crunchy layered kick where it sounds like your head is in a wooden box someones smashing along with little subtle ghostly melodies thruout. Consistent changeup and progression on stupid simple patterns.

The Surgeon track earlier today got me in that mindset.

I'm, uh, not crazy about the aggressive hard style song titles but I think it's trying to keep on brand in a cheesy way so whatever.

+ I'm not trying to spam below but I did a full site search and I didn't find the name here and wanted to share some of the stronger atmospheric tracks.

Older stuff that I found recently that got me hooked on the sound. Some stuff resembles like good atmospheric emo Burial from a while ago.

2020: https://6ejou.bandcamp.com/track/6ejou-not-yours check track 3 for atmospheric core

    2020: kick's tight and muffled

The style reminds me of a less-nuanced melody + crunchy bottomed out fast kick Aphex 90s techno

doing full live sets is pretty tight too some nights i can zone out and listen thru before realizing.

  12. I thought the LP was solid. I didn’t have any info on the label since it was recommended out of context.
I was unaware of the remix album. It’s a good reason to revisit the original tracks.
I like LP tracks 2, 4, 6 for the bass music resemblance and swing in beat.

  13. I was recommended this ep by a friend and cannot find much other info on the discogs and it appears to be a new label.

I like the beat style and housey+dubby distant sounding synths on tracks. Tracks 2+4 are two recommended songs, the remaining is downtempo but cool.

It reminds me of the neighborhood of dj healer - planet lonely material.
