Realized I haven't posted in here for a loooooooong time now... Wow, since the 7th of January. I really need to get back on it and figured I've give a short update of recent happenings.

Firstly, back in March of this year I had a track released on an amazing compilation put out jointly by Complex Sound Sagacity and Karakasa Music. The "Karakasa vs CSS Collabs" series is a new concept, a collaboration between Karakasa(USA) and CSS(MT). The whole idea is that we give you the best artists out of the two netlabels in one package. This will include a special guest artist for every Collabs release. Collabs Vol.1 is now out spamming the web, With tracks from artists such as Oxynucid, HP Sneakstep, Acidburp, Fah, Kevin Polzer and many more. also includes a track by our first special guest Chevron. Previews and MP3/FLAC downloads are available here. I really feel that this compilation didn't get the attention it deserved when it finally was released.

Here's my track titled The Approximation of a Number of Dreams:

In late May a huge tornado ripped apart the town of Joplin, Missouri. Countless people were affected by this event, but even more came to the rescue. Nurses and doctors traveled many
miles to come and help the many victims of the natural disaster. While so many people were at the scene helping restore the town to something that resembled what they remember, many artists near and far came together to help as well. Recession Recordings released Bring Back Before, a charity album from which the proceeds were donated to a charity to help rebuild the town. 47 tracks total, available in both physical and digital formats. This beast also managed to get a bit of attention from Peter Kirn of Create Digital Music, which hopefully sent additional aid to the area.

Here's my addition to this album, a post-rock inspired piece titled Altered Plug

Most recently, I had a track released on Worlds Most Records, an upstart label to host compilations created largely by WATMM members. The first offering of the label is a Tribute to Nikola Tesla

It features some of WATMM's finest, and some very good friends of mine. Acidburp, William S. Braintree, Zephyr Nova, and Lascaille are a few of the artists found along with the person who organized the whole thing Asymmetrical Head. Some real quality tunes on this album, not a single "skipper" to be found in there.

Once again, here's my offering Corrosive Energies (name thanks to Upstanding Monk) :sup:

Thanks to everyone that continues to listen to the tunes I put out!

I recently sent some tracks to CSS, time to start putting another release of my stuff together. Stay tuned to my blog, facebook page, or soundcloud for all the latest tunes, releases and news

So the end of 2010, and the beginning of 2011 have been very exciting thus far. I had a project I am very proud of released on Complex Sound Sagacity. This was a project between myself and label-mate Justin Meli of IP Config and CV/Gate. I had heard some of his ambient work and I really liked it. After hearing it I was inspired to ask him if he would like to work with me. It was actually quite a bit of time before I asked him. I'm not sure why I didn't do it earlier, but it doesn't really matter because this turned out great. It was just kind of meant to be; the timing was perfect. We worked on the project over a bout a week's duration and it just flowed. We both contributed 50/50 completely on the project. Largely not communicating other than a few notes and messages exchanged. Somehow, despite the thousands of miles separating us we were in the same head-space. What emerged was an ambient soundscape that is very interesting and beautiful, but sometimes harsh. It's 35 minutes of a universe barren of life and devoid of form. I really enjoyed working on Justin with this and look forward to getting the opportunity to follow this up in the future.

All tracks are untitled (6 tracks)

Sneakstep, Mitch Murder, wahrk, The Hyperbolic Chamber, William S. Braintree, Aphex Twin, Katie Kilobyte and others. Definitely needs to be heard!

That's right, it's that time of the year. Christmas is 9 days away now, and the end of 2010 is upon us. I've had a really good year, both personally and musically. I'm one year closer to finishing school. I had my first music released by an entity other than myself, and I've made many new friends and acquaintances. Of course, what would my year have been without the music that filled and enriched it? Not quite the same in my opinion, and I'm sure you agreed; We all create our own soundtracks to our lives! And with that, here are the albums that I enjoyed the most this year.

    10. Autechre - Move of Ten

This album was a bit of a return to form for the duo after their Oversteps album released not too long before this accompanying album. The artwork was tied closely to the Oversteps artwork. My favorite tracks include rew(1) and y7.

    9. H.P. Sneakstep - Pplz

"Mad scientists such as our Dr Sneakstep are inspired by numerous influences that shape their lives, for better or worse. In the case of our fine Dr Sneakstep, usually worse. These four men, represented in pplz, enlightened Dr Sneakstep in ways that others could not possibly fathom, and any attempt in doing so would surely result in insanity. In this manner, Dr. Sneakstep stared into the sun... and came out an even more deranged being." There is no standout track here. This is a solid 4 track EP and each of these tracks stand on their own. This is FREE album!

    8. EOD - Utrecht

"This latest EP on 030303 is like a giant zeppelin. On the crossroads of electronics, twisted electro and classic UK techno, this is stuff that makes you want to, well…fly away and look down upon the dancefloor. EOD resides in Trondheim, Norway and we can see this fits into a landscape sparsely lit by the magical northern lights. A big six tracker for those who crave big portions of deep space!" Sadly no longer available as it was quite limited.

    7. Brian Eno - A Small Craft on a Milk Sea

This album came out of improvisations with two young electronic musicians. The first, Leo Abrahams, met Eno in a guitar shop. Abrahams was trying out a guitar and, as he put it, Eno "was happy I wasn't playing 'Stairway to Heaven' with the amp turned up to 11. So he invited me to play on his album." For the past seven years they've worked with such artists as Paul Simon and Grace Jones.

Jon Hopkins, who plays piano and electronics, is the other standout collaborator. He and Eno worked on the last Coldplay album together, and the two performed with Abrahams at the Luminous Festival in Sydney, which Eno curated.

Unlike many of Eno's ambient albums, this one has varying moods — sometimes it lulls quietly, other times it's fierce. Turn it up. Look around. Enjoy the view.

    6. Ceephax - Psychtapolis

"This new ep retraces Ceephax's history and its very own personal and genious way to appropriate a musical style with always such generosity. From the dubstep of 'Souley Man', the sunset dancefloor hit 'Bacardi Breezer', the drum n bass track 'Dona Hue', the break bit track 'Turrican 2' to 'Ticker Train', an acid bomb that defies anybody to not let themselves get carried away by these wild bpm." Standout track: Souley man

    5. The Books - The Way Out

I really enjoyed the newest offerings by The Books. They continue to explore the sound of samples and guitars, and stay relatively close to home in regards to the signature sound. Standout track is "I Didn't Know That", for which they have a great video!

    4. Various Artists - The Beauty of Juke Nukem: The WATMM Remixes

This remix album consists of a single a new Juke Nukem track and remixes of various old Juke Nukem tracks by the very talented folks of WATMM. Experimental hip-hop doesn't even begin to describe this album. It's the juke hip-hop vocal stylings of Funkmaster Flex put through the wringer to create everything from glitched out IDM to dubbed out alien landscapes. This is a FREE album

    3. A Shared Sexual Experience - Synthetic Filth

There is a lot of mystery surrounding the supposed producers behind this manic EP. The story is that two Ugandan Brothers created their two tracks during much personal and political strife surrounding homosexuality. There is a large anti-LGBT movement in Uganda and other African countries. Standout tracks include the single Daddy's Bad Habits, and a Mitch Murder remix. This is another FREE album

    2. Loden - Buggy

This is an album I have been constantly rocking since I was informed of its existence by a friend. The entire album is spot on, and doesn't have a miss. There are plenty of quirky beats, glitches and subtleties that just keep me coming back for more! Definitely needs to be checked out.

It can be streamed for free: http://loden.bandcamp.com/album/buggy

    1. Squarepusher presents Shobaleader One - d'Demonstrater

This album has been a huge dividing line between Squarepusher fans. I have found it to be an amazing album that borrows from many funk and soul inspirations which are twisted into something more by the "band". The idea of being in a band is not new to Tom Jenkinson, his last album Just a Souvenir was built on that idea. But supposedly this album was really done by a whole band, and this also has lead to much debate. In my opinion there is only one way to make up your mind and that is to listen for yourself.

I hope that my Top10 had at least one release you haven't heard this year. They are all great albums, and I hop they find a spot in your rotation. Keep an eye out for some new stuff from me in the near future. I hope that the holiday season finds you healthy and happy!

    Until next time, take care.

Life for me hasn't really been about music much lately. School and work keep me really busy, but I do have some awesome news! Today Complex Sound Sagacity released a new 5 track EP by me called Boundaries Destroyed.

All of the tracks were written anywhere from about a year ago to just over a month ago. The album art was created by my brother.

Alright, once again it's been a while since the last update. The previous update was during the summer and here we are back to classes with the weather cooling down. The end of my summer was great. I went on a two week journey that spanned five states. I was a student in a class called Geology 360 Field Investigation. We spent two weeks traveling looking at rock outcrops and learning about the events that formed the some of the mountains in the Rockies.

We left Lawrence early on a Monday morning and headed East of all directions. There was an outcrop where we would do our first mapping exercise before we hit the road and headed west towards Colorado and the Rocky mountains. We stopped at Mushroom Rock state park to see some really cool formations.

The first night we stayed near a lake in Western Kansas. It was really hot all night and kind of sucked. The next day we looked at some large outcrops near the lake before heading into Colorado.

In Colorado we did some more mapping exercises where we mapped out the contacts between different layers of rock. The main purpose of this class was to teach us how to do normal mapping out in the field. We learned a few different ways to do this (all by hand mind you, no computers).

We also saw ancient riverbeds in areas that contain dinosaur fossils.

We stayed in cabins for the weekend and had Saturday off so we could do our laundry and relax a bit. Once we left the campsite we headed to Southwestern Colorado and to the Great Sand Dunes. We got to the campsite when it was dark so we didn't get to see the dunes until the morning. The first thing we did the next morning was go out on the dunes.

Yup, those are people... The dunes are huge, covering 30 square miles, and they're formed by the winds, mountains and the creeks in a cyclic system. The sand that is there has been there for a long time and is very fine and soft feeling.

After being in Colorado for six days we headed to Utah and the Moab desert. We arrived at night and could only see what our flashlights illuminated. Our campsite was surrounded by rocks. Me and a few other guys climbed up on the backside of some of the rocks while we waited for our gear to arrive (the truck had got a flat tire so we carried on to the campsite while they fixed the tire because it had gotten rather late. While up on the rocks I got some good pictures of the stars.

The next morning we were all surprised when we awoke. Our campsite was beautiful!

We headed out into the desert to hike to the Delicate Arch. Arches National park is the worlds highest concentration of natural arches.

After a three mile hike we reached The Delicate Arch

It was very cool, and we hung out there for a while. That afternoon we went through Salt Lake City to get to our campground for the night. We had a huge cookout and a lot of fun.

The next day we went to the world largest open pit mine which is right outside of Salt Lake City. After that we went to Snowbird Ski Resort. We went to the top of their 11,000 foot peak to do a mapping exercise over metamorphic rocks and thrust faults. You could see the whole of Salt Lake City and the huge mine on the other side of the city too.

The mine is the tan area on the left horizon. We also had some fun visitors while we did our mapping!

After staying in Utah for the night we were on the road to Wyoming, the Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone Park. The whole area rests on top of a magma chamber and that's what causes all the cool geological activity there like Old Faithful. The Grand Tetons are South of Yellowstone so we saw them first as we headed North.

We spent the afternoon in Yellowstone getting the chance to shower (after 2 days without), eat dinner, see Old Faithful, and be tourists. The next day we went to see an area of mudpots and fumerols, which are all basically mud or steam shooting out of the ground. There were also some hot ponds and alkali waters.

After leaving the park and heading back South through the Tetons we stopped for the night again.

Our final mapping exercise was mapping and ancient moraine left by a mountain. The rocks here were deposited by the glaciers and are about 2.8 billion years old!

The glacier that left them here carved out the lake bed and deposited that big hill on the left (called a moraine).

Here's a view from where we did our mapping.

After this we headed back to Kansas. We spent our last night in Nebraska and had a long, long day of driving to get back home late Sunday night.

Overall it was a great trip. There were a total of forty students so I made many new friends including a few people with some sweet synths and hardware! I hope you enjoyed reading about my journey, it's too bad you couldn't have been there, but it's really worth seeing in real life.

    Until next time...
  6. Hautlle
Sorry for the lack of posts lately. summer classes, work, and trying to enjoy the summer with my friends have all kept me occupied.

I've been writing new tracks, and meeting a lot of new people that love electronic music, both far and abroad. This place has definitely been a big component of that, but I've also started meeting quite a few new local people. This has led to some collaborations, and jams with new people which is always interesting. Getting some new input on the things you're doing are seeing it from a different angle can really open your eyes to why you started doing something in the first place. Over-all it's been a really great summer so far.

I'm still sending some demos out, and I've had a few good replies, so I'm hoping some good things are in the future. In the mean time, here are some releases from fellow WATMM'ers and friends:

    Turbokisu by Idiron Soundtrack:

Here's a quote from the swishcotheque site: "Turbo Kisu has roots in me getting further into my analogue synths, including 6 hour session on a mate's 303, and it sort of spiralled from there. There is a narrative, which is mainly about malevolent trans-dimensional cats, but also alien love, and faulty robots."

That's all for now. I doubt I'll make another post before the fall semester starts. I leave for a 2 week fieldcamp in the beginning of August so expect many pictures of the mountains and scenery from Colorado, Utah, and Yellowstone Park in Wyoming when I return. Hope everyone else's summer is going as well as mine.

I really love the avenue bandcamp provides for the independent musician. I also love the amount of information I, as the artist, have access to. In the past month I've had someone from Poland Google hautlle, and apparently links to my bandcamp page have also been passed around through e-mail. Most of my hits come from direct links, so apparently people are spreading the word, which is very cool!

Anyway, download my album Broken Past and give it a listen. If you enjoy it tell your friends (or even donate a little cash to help a poor college student out ) Help keep independent music/artists alive!
  8. Hautlle
Alright, I'm just planning on using this as a place to talk about my new works in progress, sources of inspiration, and basically anything I may want to wax poetic about. Right now I'm in the works of getting tracks prepped for an EP I've been working on... Sent out some demos but heard nothing back, I haven't given it much time yet though!
