Cool! May I ask where you get the pellets? And how long does it take to heat up?

Sure - I get the pellets just from the ooni website, but I think any eco friendly wood pellets will do (going to try some from Amazon.com next).

Ooni say that it takes around 10 minutes to heat up, but I’ve found it’s more like 20 to reach a steady, optimal heat. You have to add the pellets until it fills up to a point, which can take longer than 10 minutes in my experience. The pizzas cook in like 90 seconds to 2 minutes though, as Squee mentioned, so you save time there.  The new gas ones are probably easier to use, but I’m not sure you can take the ceramic stone out and flip it (the heat cleans the bottom of the stone).

Our neighbours occasionally play loud music in their garden, which makes it the perfect time for me to crank up the Ooni and blow baking hot pellet smoke straight into their faces. I tend to overload it with pellets, which creates the thickest, most oppressive smoke clouds. I could ask them to turn it down, but this method results in less confrontation and a pizza.

  2. Bought an Ooni 3 just before lockdown. Also bought a wooden peel, as the stainless steel one was too faffy. Takes a bit of getting used to the cooking, but haven't any any disasters since switching to wooden peel.

Fair enough, had missed that disclaimer part in my enthusiasm. And wouldn't describe my approach as pessimistic, but highly realistic, especially after the other pm Joyrex got. Dunno about you, but it did everything else than raise my hopes any higher. How I saw this was that because these were given to people found on "who's who" of Rephlex roster (like pointed out on the original Joyrex post), it got me (wrongly) assuming there was some connection to TJ etc. We all know boss has plenty of contacts in high places, and since he couldn't of course say a word, well, it makes some fertile ground for assumptions. So my bad yep. Not so much disappointed though, this isn't the first time when these special projects don't come to fruition. Happy to impress though.

You’re probably right mate. I would describe my approach as ‘idiot optimist’ ?

Ooof. I honestly thought this project was based on a little more solid ground than it seems it actually is....like there had been some slight nod from TJ or whoever to fire it away in order to Joyrex to start the thread and ask about our (indisputable) zest for this. But now seeing that there actually is very little to actually grasp on, I really don't think this will happen

The original post features the quote, "I would like to know a bit more, and the possibility of a Kickstarter is highly unlikely, but I'd like to know more."

You've somehow become disappointed at your own made-up facts, then proceeded to adopt a pessimistic attitude towards the whole concept. That's quite the impressive mental odyssey, I must say.

  5. Sounds rough Polytrix. Seems pretty crazy to redeploy a Speech and Language Therapist to a frontline pandemic situation. Almost like getting a car mechanic to work immediately on repairing a sinking cruise ship. As others have said, look after yourself & none of this was your responsibility.

Seeing as you can buy a Mezzanine reissue boxset for a small fortune, which has a similar effect on the brain as a whole jar of sleeping pills.

What would the bounty be for a Squarepusher treasure chest archive boxset?

    Release The Kraken!

Last album I got was Hello everything, I'd def splurge the cash on a collection of stuff like this.

Their attention to detail, knowing what they want to do and knowledge of their gear is what makes Squarepusher, Aphex and Autechre still stand out in the world of electronic music.

    Inspiring but depressing.

its also a product of the 90´s i would say, nowadays no kid would have the patience to sit down take a manual and read it or even try something new.

    I'd agree it's a product of the 90's, but not because of attention span. It's a combination of different elements that coincided, which you are probably aware of;

    • The popularity of rave culture and experimental electronic music at the time - pre-millenium optimism prevalent in pop culture.
    • A good economy, relatively speaking, with a record industry that paid advances for its artists to live off.
    • Major labels seeking out and nurturing such talent (Virgin hiring U-ziq for example, i think?)
    • Digital audio software and technology taking off at rocket speed - The novelty of working with no defined hardware parameters (yeah yeah I know it was done on hardware, but generally speaking).

So the culture was already there, allowing time and opportunity for these artists to develop and hone this particular style. Even if that meant slumming it for a while on a tiny money advance, there was always a chance that you'd 'succeed' in a sense that you could financially support yourself.

Now that these factors don't apply to 2018, the same personality types that create this music are most probably developing their skills in other areas, simply due to the culture being different. So basically, what I'm trying to say in a roundabout way - Right place, right time!

If this specific culture came about again, there's no doubt in my mind we would get a new generation of artists making similar music on the same technical, detailed level.

The last time I watched it all was a couple of years ago, but this thread is convincing me to kick it off all over again. Both series are on Netflix, job done!

How much is it on Netflix? Can physically own it for a decent price here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Twin-Peaks-Definitive-Edition-Version/dp/B0030IM458/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1362574462&sr=8-1

I think jasondonervan was talking about streaming it from Netflix.

Ah right, I have no concept of Netflix! I still prefer to physically own stuff I think.

  9. ...and the bit where bowie is lookin at the cctv cam in fwwm im like wuttttt

Yeah, that's one of my favourite bits of that film. I can see why FWWM it got a negative reaction at the time, but it's bloody briliant.
