What's up with Live 6 and sidechaining?

create a group track w/ a quadra setup

set the output of whatever channel you are trying to sidechain to said group track

double click on your new weird looking panner and pan everyting forward with full stereo

insert compressor/filter/gate whatever sidechain device you want into the group track

now the critical thing is that whatever you want to send into the key input

you have to pan in the routing matrix to the back of the group so:

bring up the mixer

hit the little "e" next to said sending channel

now theres a little window with said channels levels, eq etc and in the top right-ish of the box there's a button you can use to get to the send routing

double click your send panner and pan it to the back of the group

at least thats how it works in nuendo

probably the same for cubase

fact one: sidechaining in live6 is not possible with the build in plugins. native sidechaining is supported up from version 7.

fact two: sidechaining in live6 is possible on a mac with external au plugins. vsts don't work because on the mac the sidechain input of the plugin-compressor cannot be detected.

for sidechaining in live6 on a mac you can use the freeware "Slim Slow Slider: Side Chain Compressor" : http://www.apulsoft.ch/freeports/

it works&sounds very well. especially the standard kickdrum duckings.. i guess there exists a windows version of it too.

the sonalksis sv-315 mkII AU works too in live6 and its input is detected, when enabled in the plugin itself. there are some pirate copies out there.. but its far more cpu consuming...

hope that info helps out. cheers mate.
