So it looks like I might have found a job as a gay chat/text line operator... the money isn't fantastic but you can work from home for whatever hours you choose, you're self-employed and not contractually obligated to do anything. I'll be looking for something else in the meantime but fuck, it's a recession, you have to take what you can get, right? Right?

How the hell did you get this?!

I've mainly been applying for admin jobs in London with publishing and media companies, I've got friends looking for work in all sectors and no-one seems to be having any joy. What would you be after tauboo?

I just did a bit of research into the subject (fnarr fnarr), found one of the big companies, and downloaded a guide and an application form... it's 25p/minute for phone calls and 8p/text, so you need to work quite hard at it to make serious money. Plus, I'm only going to do texts to start with, at least until I'm living away from home again, there are some things my mother does not need to hear. I can pass on a link to the company's website if anybody's interested, but it's gay only I'm afraid gentlemen, women don't call these lines. Allegedly. Of course, you don't actually need to be gay (I'm not, honest).

This is class. I had a mate at university who pretended to be a woman for these sex chat services and I always thought it would be easy money.

edit - Obviously he was only involved in the texting side of things!

Not as far as I know, I imagine that if you return to Bristol and are willing to work unsociable hours something will probably come up. I signed up at the job centre when I was there and the emails they sent out were always looking for people to work in bars/pubs. Not really too sure about the situation in London but apparently over 50 pubs are closing a week so they might be hesitant about taking on more people!

I'm open-minded, pretty imaginative, and not repulsed by filthy gay-talk... I think it's the right idea, and it'll be an interesting answer to the constant "So what do you do?" questions you get when interacting with strangers.

That's quite something.

I've been working for News International just doing shit customer service for newsagents that haven't had their papers/blahblahblah. Best phone call was probably this one at Orpington station where their bundle of papers got set on fire and they had to close the station down for about half an hour. We laughed. Unsociable hours as fuck though, 5am-12 but it's £9.75 between 5 and 9 so its not so bad. They were even paying for a cab into work until last yesterday.

Free papers every day and on the weekend we've been watching Sky Sports. I love Rupert Murdoch.

You love Murdoch but he cut off your free cab ride. Soon he'll take away Sky Sports and you'll have to watch ITV like lowly snails.

i don't really know first hand, as i am canadian, but the fact that half of our population is immigrant and i see these people working everywhere i'd say my gut feels like it's easy to work in canada. i can't understand half the people i talk to here.

Canada's different though with the job bank and different ways of residence. I'd maybe like to one day, but they're fucked up somewhat.
