how far do sound waves, say from vehicle traffic, travel in different seasons (average temperatures say). My mom didn't raise no fool, so I have noticed that houses maybe 50-100 meters in from busy streets are much less noisy than houses right on the busy street... obviously... but is there an equation that I can use??

feel free to really dumb this down for me.

cheese pizza, bewbs, what's with chaosmachines name change?,

I have to say that I'm sorry I can't help you there, and I'm also really baffled as to why you really need to work this out?

general curiosity I guess. It'd be neat to know or guesstimate how far various sounds would travel.

this can easily be solved using the quadratic formula, surely

I don't think so.

I don't see anything in there Wall Bird that would give me a distance though. explain it to me like I'm 6.

why? you only divide by distance.

call me crazy, but that looked a fuckload more difficult than just dividing by the distance. but I am 12 years out from high school mathematics...

Franklin - Fair enough mate.

George I having a hard enough time trying to calculate the circumnavual radius by the sound pressurization quotient squared in squirrel brackets times some weird things that aren't on my keyboard or calculator over 1r PIED, and then all fucking divided by the distance as per Gordo, so I don't need you questioning my motives here.

Sorry. It was lazy of me to simply post that link. I've got some notes at home with the formula for sound wave travel in different temperatures. I'll look them up tomorrow when I'm at home.
