i have always wondered if there were experimental composers during baroque times that were shunned from the music society. composers that no one will ever hear about again, and sheets of really unusual music that were never played

Well to be honest Bach was about as experimental as any composer in history, some of his music is really chromatic and well ahead of its time (and subsequent periods too!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICb-JdD_AQw This is a good example, especially the fugue which starts at 2:54

 

also check out josquin des prez for some amazing use of plainchant. But as you say, Bach being the main exception, twats like vivaldi inevitably get more attention simply because they were less innovative/ talented which is what the public like (most classical fans are no exception to this rule, just a bit older and more middle class).
