  1. I'm surprised y'all don't use the Ignore feature more often with certain members. Also with Putin going on about that "bastards and traitors" bit...the man is clearly losing it and is unfit to be leader of one of Earth's most powerful militaries. Familiar.

And @maxwellsq...all I can say is thank you for keeping us posted from the front lines. Stay safe, friend.

I really hope the devs and their families are all ok and in safety. And that they can continue their work on their new game.
The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games were quite special for the time: blending Role-Playing, Open-World, Survival and Shooter elements all together in a gritty immersive post-apocalyptic real-world setting.
Nowadays this blend of genres is rather common: Fallout, Dying Light, Metro,...
But for some reason the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series still feels surprisingly unique, maybe because of the atmosphere and cultural difference.
If you plan on playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (2007) I recommend looking up some mods reducing instability and bugs though.

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Complete mod has been my go-to for both SoC and CoP for the past decade. It's the most stable S.T.A.L.K.E.R. experience I've had yet, even if gets a lot of flak from fans for some reason.

And I agree, it truly is a special franchise. SoC predates Fallout 3 in terms of a post-apocalypse open-world setting. And it's based on both the 1979 film S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and the Soviet-era sci-fi novel Roadside Picnic from the same decade (which I still need to read). But yeah, most important is the safety and well-being of the GSC Gameworld team and their families & friends. Gotta admire their tenacity in these times.

EDIT: Here's a video update directly from the devs that I missed before making this post

So, what's WATMM's take on the GTAV remaster comings out for Ps5/SeriesX? Part of me just vomits at the thought of buying this thing for literally the 3rd time on 3 diff console generations. Plus, the total lack of (substative) info for a game that's coming out in less that a week makes me think it's going to be.... kind of lame.

Then again, it's only 10 bucks right now so... probably worth a tenner even if it's just some slightly upgraded graphics? Dunno, I always find I'm starstruck for the first 10 hrs of any new GTA and then quickly feel like I suddenly have another job for the next 20 after which point I just quit. ... maybe I should try online?

    Curious to hear everyone's thoughts

I haven't touched GTA V in like seven years, so I'm not really sure what to say on this. Or, they could focus on a new GTA game, but...who knows if that'll ever live up to the standards of V.

I'll most likely dive back into Cyberpunk 2077 soon, now that's been patched to 1.5 for about a month. Seems like the next best thing.

There are also far-left and anarchist militants fighting against Russia in Ukraine

    More analysis https://www.militantwire.com/p/ukrainian-anarchists-mobilize-for?s=r

Basically the Freedom faction from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. but IRL

In all seriousness though, I hope all the fighters in Kyiv can continue to hold the line. Also I wonder if there's a way to cripple Moscow's nuclear capabilities via cyber assault, although I'm not sure how antiquated their launch systems are.

  5. For lunch I toasted two halves of a bagel and put cream cheese, smoked sockeye salmon lachs, dill weed (don't laugh), cucumber, rice vinegar, and salt & pepper on top. Washed it down with leftover percolated coffee brewed this morning. Another one of my successful culinary experiments.

Sometimes I forget how spoiled we are in my region when it comes to salmon.

  6. I've never really been a die-hard fan of the series, but the second one by James Cameron will always be my favorite. The 1979 original felt more minimalist in comparison, although it's been ages since I've seen it. I just remember the Chest Burster scene, the rogue Synthetic, and the actual Xenomorph, which ended up getting vented out of an airlock by Ripley if I remember right.

I watched only parts of the third film, but was overall unengaged by it. Resurrection from '97 felt like it was straddling between an action and a comedy and wasn't sure what its end goal was aside from giving Ripley a second chance. Prometheus had impressive visuals but no recognizable plot to speak of. Covenant, I have not seen.

As for games, I wouldn't mind seeing another proper shooter under the Alien brand. Something along the lines of Alien Trilogy on PS1 but as a modern remake would be ideal. Never touched Colonial Marines due to the jank/cringe factor as a Gearbox title. But Alien: Isolation is one I still ought to try. I hear it has elements similar to System Shock and Prey 2017 but with survival emphasized over combat.

Remember when noomi rapace gives birth to a freakish alien thing in Prometheus? that scene was really great

Yeah...I remember. I had a mild crush on Rapace for a little while after the movie came out, but not because of that scene.

  7. The latest as far as I know: 10 people killed in a rocket attack in Kharkiv, and a TV tower hit in Kyiv. And that massive Russian convoy is moving closer to Kyiv as well.

I'm tempted donate aid money for Ukraine, but I want to make sure the recipients are legit. And this goes without saying, but also fuck Putin and his cronies.

  8. I have no news or fresh intel to contribute, nor do I have any friends or family in the region. But based on my limited understanding, this is all Emperor PalPutin being salty about the collapse of the USSR more than three decades ago, and the fact that his global influence is waning. But I've been seeing an unprecedented level of internet solidarity with Ukraine in all of this - be it on YouTube, Reddit...even in No Man's Sky multiplayer last weekend. It appears the majority of Russian people don't even want this conflict.

Hopefully Zelensky and his forces can hold the line in Kyiv and prevent it from getting captured. Putin and his regime have been in power in Moscow for more than two decades, and they've overstayed their welcome at this point.

  9. Mainly been playing Gunfire Reborn again lately. It's basically roguelike Borderlands minus the cringe. Pretty impressive weapon variety.

Tried Metal Wolf Chaos XD last Monday also. The gundam/exosuit you pilot is pretty neat, but for a game from 2019 the SFX are pretty janky, not to mention the 2004 graphics. Pretty sure the game was meant to be satire to begin with though.

Also got back into Duskers earlier this month. I think my beginner level online programming course has trained me to input in-game command lines more quickly. Also learning things I haven't before, like figuring out how to commandeer a derelict after clearing it out. Plus the game got another update just yesterday.

And then No Man's Sky just got its next big update as of last week. So now there's more Sentinel types along with new Multi-Tool weapon attachments. Still trying to find one of the new Sentinel Nests.

  10. Laughing Quarter is still an absolute banger, even a quarter of a century later.

Something about that mid-late 90s era for Ae/Gescom in general...it was like a micro Renaissance.
