anyone have any hands on play with the DFAM?

Just saw they retail for juuussst about what i'd shell out if I was swimming in cash...for some reason I thought they went for around the 1K mark

Yeah I have one and I fucking love it.  For me and my style it's perfect.  I wish I had more because it can produce both drum and synth sounds; with the Beat Step Pro it's easy as fuck to program in melody lines, and that way you can get around the 8 step limitation.

The last few pieces I've been working on are exclusively on the DFAM.  It can take a while to record a song, because I essentially have to record a take, play that back and record another on top etc etc, but it's worth it.

Here's a tiny little clip of something I'm working on of just the DFAM; https://www.dropbox.com/s/d6bhn3y1fvq327q/Man_Moth_v6_Clip.320kbps.mp3?dl=0 There's probably 3/4 layers there.  Kick, Bass, Percussive sounds and a synth.  Some of those are run through the Waldorf 2-Pole.  Can't remember if I had anything on the master bus when I bounced it, but you get the idea.

  3. it depends a lot on the monitors as well I think.  Some I find have such a narrow stereo field and sweet spot you really have to make sure you have it spot on.  And then some are really wide and it just works without having to be really refined.  As well the room, I've had my same monitors in different rooms and moving 30cm forward and back can massively disrupt the bottom end.

The Waldorf 2-pole is still one of the best things in my set up. Gives such great colour to the sound. Would recommend everyone getting one. Still getting to know the blue sky but to be honest it doesn't take much to get a good sound.

Also been using a Grace M103 pre amp at work to run some drum tracks through, the EQ on it is fantastic. Has a three band EQ which is quite broad but does so much. Not only the eq but also widens the stereo space immensely.

What are you using the 2-pole on? I've heard lots of good about it. That and the Rocket plus a Blofeld to match my Pulse 2 would make a hell of a Waldorf corner :)

I use it on pretty much fucking anything haha  :emb:

Ok that's maybe a bit of a lie, but I do like to use it a lot.  Even just having the filter wide open and putting a bit of drive on something, gives everything a bit of dirt and works well with pads, tends to somehow give a nice low end boost.  The thing in general is pretty noisy which suits me and thankfully I've only nearly killed myself a few times with the resonance.

Finally got everything pretty much sorted. Using Ableton to record but everything is now sequenced and made with hardware. Very much enjoying it.

That looks like a nice and powerful setup. What's the mixer looking thing on the top?

That's the Vermona DRM mk3 drum machine. 8 channel analogue drum machine. First piece of hardware I bought. Was considering selling it but love it too much. I still need to buy a few more cables to hook up the individual channel outputs into the patchbay, basically the last thing missing from the setup, but I can still work without them for now.

  6. The DFAM is incredible too. Far more versatile than I was expecting. I'm having to multitrack some stuff to really build things up which it's kinda shitty if you wanted to do live stuff, obviously need more than one which I just can't afford, but if you have the patience to take the time to multitrack the results are wonderful. Shame that you need a couple to achieve the same results for live work/jamming but in general it's really a great machine. At least for the music I'm trying to make.

  8. I found the candle holder in the hall way of my building, can't believe someone threw it out! The Vermona is brilliant. Needs a little extra but with the filter and verb it comes alive, versatile as fuck. Getting kicks off the snare channel is very satisfying

The best thing so far is the behringer rack mixer so I can sum multiple sources into the same effect, generates a lot of craziness.

  9. Pretty much finished cabling everything together and ready to start making music again after buying a lot of new gear a few months back.  I still some Y cables for the individual Vermona outputs but other than that it's done.

  10. Hey watmm,

can anyone recommend me some pretty deece monitors for DJ'ing at home with, that aren't KRK's?  Ideally I don't wanna spend more than €200, I just want something that is good to listen to music on essentially.  I'll probably go 2nd hand, but it's been years since I listened to music on anything other than my actual 'studio' monitors, I have no idea what's out there.

    Cheers.

  11. Thomann have given me a €20 discount on account of the fact that their new depot has gone completely tits up and all orders are delayed.  Which has kinda tempted me into finally picking up a new pair of headphones.  There's a lot mentioned in here that I could snag for around €150 or under.

I can get down to Just Music where they have a whole wall available to test, but unfortunately that doesn't give you a full insight on how comfortable they are to wear for a substantial number of hours.

Any help? I'm thinking especially of the ATH-M50x, Sony 7506, Sennheiser 280 Pro, Beyerdynamic DT770, although welcome to other suggestions.

the heat, mfc42 and filterbak are all great but all of them are waaaay above my budget, even used ones, so i can forget about those :(

anybody has experience with any of these units?

I just bought the Waldorf. In my brief time messing with it so far I've been pretty impressed with the range of sounds I can get. The overdrive is quite intense. Only thing is the knobs seem a bit flimsy and I'm hoping that won't become a problem with large amounts of use.

yes, i thought about it too. even on yt videos you can see how flimsy the knobs are. wtf waldorf?! ...much prefer the knobs of the epsilon and filter lancet

The knobs on my 2-pole are perfectly fine. Wouldn't describe them as flimsy at all.

Hmmmm.  A lot of mine - especially the main cut off - can move a good 1-2mm in all directions, even without turning them.  I'm amazed they are not more sturdy, considering it's brand new.

i highly recommend the 2pole. for the price you can't beat it. it does so much.

yes, i know... right now my decision is to buy the geiger counter AND the 2-pole. i believe they could pair well

The more I play with mine, the more I love it.  Just buy it

I just had a bit of a splooge and bought:

    Analog Four

    Minilogue

    Strymon Big Sky

    Waldorf 2-Pole

    Roland Octa-Capture

Had everything delivered apart from the Waldorf (fuck you DHL), now I'm engaging in the fun that is known as "how to make everything fit on the table". Arranging everything is actually a fun process, although I'm a bit of a neat freak when it comes to lines and angles. Tempted to build a couple of things to help raise a couple of things. Will probably spend this weekend down the hardware store. Also in the next couple of weeks I will order the patchbay and rack mixer. I'm hoping by next month everything will be completed.

I also need a fucking shit ton of new cables. I was thinking about soldering everything myself, but I dunno if it'll be cheaper. I don't actually own a soldering iron either. Any recommendations for someone who would use one in the most basic way possible? I.e. I don't need anything fancy as fuck.
