  1. My best friend (who, staying on forum form, saw Autechre with me in Atlanta back in 2001 at the Roxy) gave me a bottle of Prairie's Christmas Bomb, appropriately enough, a few days before Christmas this year. Comes off like a bit of cross of two of my favorite ales, Untitled Artwork's Chocolate Macaroon Stout and Wicked Weed's (sadly retired) Xibalba. Cacao nibs, a kiss of chiles, and 12% alcohol. Very cozy and great for a cold afternoon.

  2. Yeah, it's mostly their opinions and observations. It would be a lot more interesting if they quoted interviews or had researched the albums before talking about them. I don't really need to listen to a couple of blokes just responding to the music, basically. Good name, though. Maybe it will evolve into something more informative that compiles more objective insight into the making of various records.

  3. How can you tell? I mean, I trust you to know your chicken, but there seems to be a kind of curiosity welling up to me. A dawning and desire to investigate ?

I've got my mom staying with me these days (health concerns, etc.) and her parakeet loves anything with pairs of percussive elements in quick succession. Neubauten's "Ten Grand Goldie" appears to be exceptionally choice.

Side note: Does anyone else (always) hear the voice of Seth Brundle saying "cheeseburger" whenever someone uses the hamburger icon/emoji in response to a post?

ok this comment helped me get through it. Even as a KW obsessive I didn't pick up on the references but now that you mention it that makes a bunch of sense, and I kinda sorta like it. I've listened to this a bunch and there's still a few tracks that really annoy me but i'm getting into it.

Nice! Yeah, it specifically reminds me a bit of Tour de France Soundtracks, which I was listening to a lot during the same autumn (2003) as I was Monolake's Momentum, so the mashup is kind of surreal and makes me think of the photo internship I was doing in Montréal at the time.

Anybody else think it's little strange there hasn't been any proper interviews as such?

Yeah, there was the article in the NY Times, but it wasn't exactly an in depth interview.

I don't necessarily think it's strange, but I am going to Google News a couple of times a day looking for them ?  I wish that full two-hour conversation for NYT would be released, of course. I tweeted kudos to the interviewer & enquired about it, but that unsurprisingly didn't garner a reply.

  6. It may just be the power of suggestion, but I'm managing to find the album quite "green" sounding. With the exception of marhide, which comes off as a kind of rust/burnt umber/sepia sort of thing. I'm sure everyone cares ?

7FM ic is a weird one isn't it. Not sure if I get it yet. Can't tell if there's a melody behind all the pew pew.

Seems to have a lot of F7 wrapped up in it. I can only hear certain little bursts of those bending FM synth motifs sparsely peaking out behind all the laser kicks.

    Alright... All caught up:

    • Title is a watmm meme
    • Beats
    • X4 is everyone's favourite
    • Comparisons to EP7 (in not really hearing it)
    • Misuta Go hates everything

Just finished X4, enjoying the  album so far but the flow of it is harder to understand on first listen...

Yeah, I find it to be much more NTS-ish with over & undertones of Oversteps & Move of Ten. Maybe some of the more metallic percussion seem kind of ep7ish, but I'm not really getting a lot of that either.

  9. Do we think we should consider this an album or EP? The Warp catalogue # is 338. Could suggest that it's the 14th EP, which might be the case if AE live and OneSix/16-18 are considered the 12th and 13th EPs or non-album releases...

...so, I confirm that I like the graphics of sign, especially now that I see it printed, only I say that warp could invest a few pounds more on the cardboard. I don't think Autechre are a commercial gamble, there should be all the guarantees for the sold out, and a slightly thicker cardboard shouldn't lead to bankruptcy.

Yes, even the pictures of the artwork online look a lot better than the digital representation on the Ae Store & Warp. Having the texture of the sleeve visible makes a huge difference.

  11. Weird side question here, does anyone have insight into the photos that are included with the Sasha Frere-Jones article/interview? Are they just subjective creative content or are the relevant to the article? I kind of wanted to believe that they were from Sean's or Rob's neighborhood, but that seems hyper-unlikely.

Well to be honest, Silverside sprung to mind when I listened to SIGN the first time - but in a good way ! The whole album brings me back to Christmas 11 years ago when I bought the Quaristice / Amber double pack and started discovering Autechre.

Amber especially has been strongly associated in my mind to a winter vibe that I'm feeling right now, so to me this album sounds more like Amber's true heir than Oversteps offspring !

    (also : Metaz form8 is Piezo 2.0)

I didn't know a Quaristice / Amber pack was thing? What was that about?

Really? You never like AE albums from the first listen on?

That's a phenomenon that I have often heard of but never experienced. Usually I perceive an AE album the same way after 5 years of listening as compared to the first day of listening, roughly.
Of course certain details come out only after a while you have been with the album, but generally, the album doesn't change and therefore my perception doesn't change much.

Things are as they are and that's all there is to them. And that's congruent with my perception.

Oversteps and Untilted needed time to grow on me. Quaristice never really did although I love the live stuff from the period. Most of the others (beginning with ep7, for me) have clicked hard right away.

Hey all, what level of damage would you guys consider uhm... petty? Considering these vinyl aren’t typically repressed etc.... the top of my sleeve is damaged/split all across the top, other sides are fine. Should I be requesting a new sleeve?

Maybe see how it sits with you for a couple of days? Things like that can really get under the skin sometimes.

i like how Elseq and NTS are still on this summit, but regardless it is 'gone now'.

btw i've started to take both of those releases more seriously - the live stream was just the wake-up call i needed for post-Exai ae. i'm finding gems in those sessions and i might even be digging deep into the AE_LIVE haystack. i'll be riding this high for weeks to come ⚡

Two years ago, these guys were on the top of their game; now, they're hasbeens (sarcasm)
