  1. i perceive them as a mixture between the tv show horders and doomsday preppers :) joking

as a matter of fact the US was the last place I wanted to travel to but I was lured by burning man a few years back so stopped off in a few cities on my way. i thought since we were brought up on US entertainment I had a grasp of the country but honestly i was amazed at the beauty of the country and how welcoming and open people were. even more so in canada.

it is hard to be supportive of the US when you are outside as all you hear about is edward snowden expose, wikileaks expose, gfc, overhyped nationalism, fox news, pharmaceutical companies and other large corporations with too much power, mass shootings, no gun control, war on tv. it just looks like too much power in the wrong hands.

it is hard to take a high stance coming from australia as we are in the shadow and always there to help in any diabolical plot just so earn some tickets and our current government is probably worse

  2.

    blame! is the best ever.

    I agree, loved it.

It is an amazing set. I loved it. The world Nehei created was enthralling. Shame it isn't explored any further he could have gone a lot further with the colonies and characters briefly mentioned in the 10 books (11 if you include noise).

  3. Anyone got experience with the Focal monitors? kakapo, you have the CMS40s, wanna share your opinion?

i have the cms50. i love them. exceptional clarity in comparison, not boomy like dynaudio bm5s and easy to listen to not grating like some (adam a4). some friends who do more serious mixing bought subs with their cms60s but i haven't found it necessary. i have a small rooms so i don't see the point of having a sub. i have thought about buying a second pair

  4.

my bags were full of records on my way home (and toys) :)

cant wait to go back again

    Are you luka magnotta?

    :fear:

nah - luka isn't my real first name, close by not the same. i'm all for a standard deviation from the truth when it comes to internet identity

  5. think i'm going to go to berlin next, some time over the winter. any recommendations on where to visit?

just stay in town friedrichshain / Kreutzberg / prenzlauer berg

do some of the graffiti tours, check out some war stuff and check out a LOT of music

drink lots of cheap beer :)

  6. currently reading NAUSICAA : of the valley of the wind manga, by miyazaki.

long running, epic comic series that became the film (which now regarded as studio ghibli's unofficial first founding film).

the film was made while manga was still being written, and only takes up the first ~1/4 of the manga. remainder and majority of the manga is focusing on the war following the events of the film (the film and manga obviously have other differences, ending of the film being big difference). if you like nausicaa or miyazaki's style than this is pretty much a must read !! it has a lot more depth and weight to the story that the film couldn't fit in. it's also enjoyable seeing miyazaki's style improve and refine over the years.

Ahh wow I didn't realise the manga went deeper. I just thought it was a print version of the anime. Thanks for the tip

  7. cool just found this thread. in that last couple of years particularly after a few visits to japan I started a new hobby - reading manga :) my wife isn't that excited about it as they are filling up the book shelves.

not hugely into US comics - the detective story / super hero story isn't my cup of tea with some exceptions (loved judge dredd in 2000ad when i was growing up). sci-fi manga is my cup of tea and started to collect moebius when a good deal pops up.

recently finished akira, blame!, ghost in the shell series. started reading biomega but it was a bit zany for me. I absolutely loved akira / blame & g.i.t.s. I think they tie into current themes of distrust of authorities, technology beyond the grasp of the majority, post apocalypse society. it all touches a nerve and you have to love the graphic content in these series - truly amazing.

i have a spare set of blame! minus 6, and biomega 1-3 if anyone is looking (not sure if this okay to mention in a thread post :/ happy to trade )

looking to read more classics and move into different genres - think i might tackle lone wolf and cub next

  8. I once had PC-speakers delivered by me by the mailman throwing (!) the huge box at me from 5 meters away. The same guy placed a poorly packaged order (containing SAW II on cassette) in the freezing cold of december somewhere between the lamppost next to my door, where it lay all day, deteriorating, for anyone to grab.

Was really glad to get him fired over those incidents though, so my point being: report him :)

It's amazing how much I've been playing all these levels by the way. Since receiving 6 and 3 I'm playing them out everyday, alternating with a lot of the others. So much love for this!

Yes we once had a delivery (containing an alesis midiverb in a mail bag) thrown over a brick fence to our front door. I was too scared to complain as I was worried what he would do to my records / studio deliveries in the future. Nightmare but have since moved.

Luckily at our new house we no longer have this problem - CS3 vinyl arrived yesterday - delivered with care :) Love it
