complete change of view, clearing out attic clutter recently & found my brother's old Richard Scarry books frrom the 70's, talk about a memory bomb, the creatures always looked like they were having fun & nostalgia isnt always a bad thang
Scarry was fkn cosmic
oh my god i havent seen this in nearly 20 years, childhood memories are flowing back. i used to play the Busytown game, 5 year old me thought it had such grabbing visuals. wish i still had it, would not hesitate to play right now tbh. such a peacefully innocent little game

Yeh Phineus2 is top notch stuff, I'm completely amazed how little official releases he has out there? A few 12s and a digi with kid lib I think?
yeah, he's got some downloadables on soundcloud too, but that's it. kid lib said there should be a new release from him on GBW soon though

this thread needs some Phineus II action

Meathole is probably my favourite.
I think the abstractness in the 'dark evil' type snares albums gets downplayed and the silly sound type ones are seen as more 'abstract' by default. Pressure Torture from Doll Doll Doll seems like an absolutely bonkers idea musically. Also there's that "Mercy Funk" track with the insane time signature description in the youtube comments
also the more digital-sounding Snares albums seem like the 'scary' ones to me in all honesty, a lot of the dark ones go so over the top they make me want to chuckle maybe and maybe that's Snares' intent. But like Coke Ajax from Huge Chrome Cylinder Box and the next one Li2CO3, if anything is autobiographical about Snares' music it's not the over the top serial killer themes it's those two tracks, and the fact they follow each other on the album..... hmmm
like let's just say maybe he took bipolar medication and his intent was like "screw you IDM posers, this is real 'I feel like a robot' music"
Totally agreed, and I feel his melodies don't get the credit that they deserve because they're so overpowered by the sheer density of his sound. Pwntendo, Duffy, Miss Balaton, Vida, etc all have beautiful melodic progression. And then tracks like Marty's Tardis which have seamless genre shifts; spastic breakcore to dub. People dismiss him too quickly because of the initial shock value of his tracks, but he's a seriously talented artist in all aspects.

the only track I remember is chinaski, but I really love it. I should listen to this album again

If talking about SA and newer outlets for D'nB, maybe Love Love Records is also worth mentioning. Besides dgoHn that GetSquirrely already posted, Rognvald's R.O.G.N.V.A.L.D and The New Selecta Vol.1 EPs added with Christoph De Babalon's Short Eternities should evoke a nod of approval from any Jungle and D'nB lover. Maybe even Beatwife's Lord Cornwallis could fall under that category if really stretching the genre borders.
I knew there was one I was forgetting, Love Love is 100% quality

For SciWax, just listen to Dub-One, Equinox, Nebula, Champa B... might as well just say listen to the whole label. Dub-One's my favorite though, unmatched in how much sheer power rolls through his tracks. these two releases will blow your subs to shreds:

I guess Brain Records isn't technically "new", but Bizzy B's been releasing a huge amount of unreleased tunes from that label recently. It can all be heard on his youtube streams, he usually does a massive 2-3 hour set every weekend playing unreleased tracks he's found. He'll play viewer tracks too if you email them to him. just an all around fucking awesome guy
(just for the record, tune at 43:00 is HUGE)
My favorite of the releases he's put out:

missed the time cutoff to edit that post, cant post here without linking some tunes:

yeah like Bulk said, subtle audio releases killer jungle right now. My other favorite labels are Greenbay Wax, Scientific Wax, and Brain Records. last 5 years have been a big jungle renaissance with tunes flying all over the place and some of the oldschool guys coming back releasing tracks, like Dillinja and Bizzy B. the 2010's have been a great decade for junglists

incunabula
LP5
draft 7.30
amber
chiastic slide
tri repitae
untilted
oversteps
elseq
exai
quaristice
nts
This is a weirdly fascinating one
is it because i totally forgot confield? lol
Didn't even notice lol. Nah just a very strange (to me) ordering there.
well after going back and relistening to a bunch of albums, it's probably more like this:
incunabula
LP5
confield / draft 7.30
untilted
chiastic slide
amber
tri repetae
oversteps
quaristice
exai
I chopped elseq cause I really didn't listen to that as an album, and nts cause I only listened to session 1 and I cant motivate myself to go through 3 more. Incunabula and LP5 are way ahead of the pack. Incunabula could be separated because I enjoy it mostly for sentimental reasons, but at the same time, it's got an ethereal, spacey vibe that I don't think they've matched before. Not saying I wished they'd stuck with this style for too long, especially considering I don't like amber or oversteps nearly as much. I think draft has better individual tracks than confield, but confield is a wayyyyyy more satisfying album listen than draft, so they're about even to me. Lentic catachresis as a closer is absolutely unreal. The rest of the list is pretty self-explanatory, but idk if it's more or less strange than the one before.
