i tried oatmeal, it's like eating water, not cool... maybe i was supposed to season it with something? i dunno...

i guess the porridge i tried was made with milk and this oatmeal with water... i'm such a noob...

how much water did u put in it? just drizzle some boiled water on top of the oatmeal in a bowl, wait for it all to coagulate a bit then give it a solid stir. sprinkle some crushed almonds n dried fruit in there and if you're feeling a bit adventurous maybe schnozzle some yogurt on top. add milk if in the mood.

Can anyone recommend any good Scandinavian shows (apart from obvious Broen, of course, I didn't like it at all)? Watched Jordskott recently, what an absolute pile of crap with stupid characters. They didn't even show any of the LORE in 10 fricking episodes. Only a fucking white head of a sea person for barely a second. What a joke. I need retribution.

I remember enjoying The Bridge quite a lot a few years ago..

    edit: wait whoops

that's exactly what's shown in the ep.

i'm following the discussion of this on some russian torrent tracker, those people are very allergic to the hollywoodization of facts when it comes to events such as those, so far i've seen no serious complaints about the accuracy. just some discussion about the causes of the accident and how much the ukranians suck.

lowkey which tracker? I'd love to read their takes.

watched the first episode of this mini series and here is what i learned:

everyone in chernobyl had a very british accent and barely spoke russian

none of the scientists or working personnel knew what a nuclear disaster meant and spent hours milling around watching people cough up blood

high life - enjoyed this a lot, reading reviews beforehand,it was nowhere near as arty/surreal as people where implying, but i thought it was a cool, obviously low budget, well acted/directed,interesting sci-fi movie with a nice soundtrack - juliette binoche is great in it - 8/10

huh.. I skipped out on this completely I think because I saw the twilight guy. gotta check my subconscious bias'. Juliette Binoche is maybe my favourite actress, didn't realise she was in it.

wow- i cannot believe they fucked this up as much as they did but it's almost like netflix is on a mission to make the shittiest films possible.

I mean the film title says it all

has anyone read The Sovereign Individual? just saw it mentioned in a wackass vice video. Content sounds interesting, but the only mentions on reddit I've found are by crypto nut-jobs.

The book was literally written before I was born, but apparently is fairly prescient. I'd love to read some more contemporary takes on how neoliberalism is going to fuck us over if anyone has req's.

Acid Dreams is great for the first 100 pages or so, all of the stuff based on their early access to all those declassified files.  Everything beyond that is more like cliff note versions of Electric Kool Aid Acid Test and a few other books - stuff anyone who is interested in that era probably already knows by the time they find out about Acid Dreams.  Still worth it though.

I also have one called The Guru Papers that I found in a box of discarded stuff a few years ago haven't opened yet that seems like it's thematically (if not intentionally or in style) a followup to Mindfuckers, so I'll have to actually read it finally when I'm done with Mindfuckers.

Actually, no promises because it will all be down to the binding and how sneaky I can be, but I DO technically have access to a local university's overhead book scanners, so if I can find the time and do it without getting kicked out for scanning an entire book (they don't like you doing that) I'll see if I can actually scan Mindfuckers and make a PDF.  But that won't be for a while if I can do it at all.

If you're in to this sort of stuff, you should also try to track down the movie Ticket To Heaven.  I haven't seen it since I caught it on daytime TV as a kid (which might be how I first started to develop my interest in cults actually) but I remember it being pretty good.

oo thanks! I'll try and track down a copy:)

interesting, I don't really know much about the era other than info I've picked up on Hamiltons Pharmacopeia. all the biz on government testing/mindcontrol/truth serum is exciting to read haha.

Just finished Jenny Hval's novel Paradise Rot. really loved it, wish she had written more. Keen to sus her discography as I'd not heard of her before reading the book.
