Honestly this is like some Brian Pern-style parody, didn't expect it to be so bad lol

Your comment made me watch it, its shockingly bad, have they no shame now?! I hate to hate on things generally, horses for courses and all that, but this is just lame as fuck garbage. They should rename themselves if they are putting stuff like this out, call them selves Techno Dads Who Don't Give a Shit Anymore, or something along those lines.

Interesting podcast from just the other day with Clark on how he bleeps

This was a really down to earth interview, he seems very reasonable and makes total sense in what he says, very direct and open interview, definitely no speaking in riddles.

  3. Has anyone here heard info about potential digital release for this? I really hate how exclusive certain releases seem to be with no desire to give them full releases before we all die, is this part of hipster culture or vinyl culture or something? I don't really get it, just why don't they want a bigger audience and market. Not just this release but many.

I can understand to some degree wanting to hold back a digital release until sometime after physical media has been sold through (though I don't personally agree with that), but indefinite unreleased digitals, it's bullshit.

im really hoping that he makes another Techno record after this one S/T and Death Peak are absolutely fantastic imo

His self titled album along with his Flame Rave EP are his best IMO, I know many disagree, but I love it. I definitely want more of that, Death Peak wasn't nearly as good, way to much of a mixed bag by comparison. I think he is all over the place in which albums I like, there aren't particular Clark time periods that I like really, just particular releases, which is unusual, as usually there is some connection between time periods and clusters of favourite releases with most artists.

Black Box Life Recorder, interesting, anyone else think this could elude to all those archived tapes that Richard was busy mastering for the last couple of years,  all those tapes he found in sealed army boxes in his basement ?  Maybe I'm completely off, but really hoping all his early work and archived stuff sees the light of day eventually.

I really do feel that something is on the cards in that respect, the name Black Box Life Recorder certainly indicates the possibility of a long span of recordings being released, combine with the fact we know he has been going through his archives and re recording it so it isn't lots to time. I know this is being hopeful, but I think it's a real possibility in the coming year he will unleash the flood gates of his music, even if the initial release is a regular album.

Question is - why those particular releases?

I had first thought it must be because he was going to add tracks to the releases, but then I don't see why he would need to remove them first, could just do it all behind the scenes until makes live. Unless he's going to add many tracks to those releases and make them a higher price or something like that. I can't help feel he is uploading tracks behind the scenes and he was and probably still is going through his archives over time and making them ready for upload/website release.

I know he mentioned he finds it a lot of faffing about to upload and release them on the website, he preferred the ease of soundcloud, I wish Ochre would help streamline the website upload process for him. It seems like if it had have been similar to the soundcloud process we would have loads more archive stuff up on there.

I've every Orb album since Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld (some as multiples, eg Ultraworld and UFOrb as both the original and the deluxe reissues) though with every release Alex's role within the group mystifies me more and more (to the point of which the infamous 'Weston rant' now seems less of a rant and more of a truth-bomb (though his opinion of Fehlmann's look can get to f***)  https://web.archive.org/web/20140626033214/https://krisweston.com/index.php/rant/ )

Would love to come across any examples of a Paterson solo piece just to be proven wrong that he can make music though !

All I know is that other collaborators don't release anything independently that would substitute for me listening to the Orb. Even if Alex serves only as a muse, that makes a real difference and the end results just aren't matched without him IMO. I don't know if he is mostly a muse or if he plays instruments or whatever else, I've read that he definitely was involved in sourcing and playing in samples in the early days and samples are often a big part of many great orb tracks, really well chosen. Whatever he does, he definitely makes a real difference it seems.

  8. I'm looking forward to hearing the whole thing, Im not feeling Machine Funk, but Lucon Acid is good from the Bandcamp previews. I spent a long time just wanting more of his very early Wagon Christ stuff & not really giving his more recent stuff a fair listen. Been listening to his whole discography over the last 2 years much more and it clicked, bought nearly everything he's released now. Sometimes you just have to be in the right mindset to take something in properly and appreciate it fully, I'm fully onboard with Luke Vibert now.

But the Hollowed - Bodied - Outland progression is nothing short of amazing - not forgetting Beyond Sight, The Speed Of Darkness, Dream Boundary, and Seraph.

I agree, for me Hollowed was a turning point, as if he found his own voice and broke free of any trends being too bigger part of his music.

  10. Already bought the discog a while back and currently subscribe but rebought the discog at a reasonable price to fill in gaps. There are loads of tracks to get through, haven't heard half yet, but definitely some top rate gems in there. Recommend this pay what you want deal for sure, no brainer.

This track is epic!!! Love it!!!

Aqualine by The Jaffa Kid (soundcloud.com)

Bumping this because I think he's flown under the radar. That is the one that really got me interested, it is epic indeed. I have since bought his discography on Bandcamp a few months ago which at the time included around 72 releases. I am only part way through it in random order but there are some real gems. I bought his discog on there for about £60 which including VAT, it also happens to be on there now for 90% off around £58 plus VAT with 94 releases! I think he puts it to 90% off fairly often as there is so much stuff. I recommend giving that track Aqualine a listen and if you like it checkout more. His Bandcamp is https://thejaffakid1.bandcamp.com/

  12. Can't say I have favourite eras, but peak releases would be Amber, Anvil Vapre EP, Envane EP, & Exai. I choose these as their most consistent and engaging releases IMO. I haven't heard most of the live stuff or the Plus/Sign albums yet, too much music backlog to get through. Autechre are definitely the best at wowing me over the years, they don't seem to have gone into cruise mode at all, and they are the best at actually releasing music consistently over the years.

Strangely I think my least favourite phase of theirs would be Confield, Draft & Untitled, which seems to be at odds with many opinions on here, I get the sense many on here see it as their peak phase.
