my take is that there are amazing tracks on all of them so far and you're a fool for not listening to everything he puts out. sifting through it all is part of the fun. the lesser tracks put you in colundi headspace and uncovering a gem is a great discovery

You're not wrong.  I get stoked for the sifting every time!

However, I do think that 4A may be his best overall album in the last 2 years, which is saying a lot given his volume of releases...anybody who doesn't like the treasure sifting that we do should at least listen to this one.  I just can't stop listening.

  2. This series in particular has been awesome. I’m walking less lately (Canadian winter lol) but I’m still trying to make time for all of these!

Oh shit, fair enough buddy! I forget that not everybody has walkable weather.

I’ve got a check my southern California privilege…

  3. I totally get the "it's too much" sentiment, but it's all about what you prioritize.  At the end of the day, good music is good music.  If RDJ put out this much music, I'd listen to all of it also.  For me I get excited every time I see AP put something out...I take a lot of walks and have a lot of music time these days, so I'm always down to hear what he has to say.  These have really been hitting the spot during this extra shitty year.

  4. Ok, I finally finished listening to part 4A.  WOW.  For those of you saying Aleksi puts out too much stuff and you're gonna skip this one, don't.  It's a new direction for him, yet again.  After crunching my brain, it finally dawned on me by about the end that it is very reminiscent of D'arcangelo ala Broken Toys Corner.  This album is very Rephlex, it's like a mix of the above and classic Ovuca.  Some beautiful melodies on this one.  Favorite track MAY be #7.  It's really hard to say.  This album is a single vibe.  I love this guy.

More Midnight Sun albums to complete the puzzle? Not caught up with 2B yet, but I've heard 1 and 2A a bunch of times now, plus that 2 hour mix. Incredible how he keeps his sound fresh with the frequency of output. Hardly have time to revisit the older stuff, so whenever I'm in the mood for it (had a few months off with colundi) I can just catch up with just new stuff instead ?

Nice one, Aleksi. On the top of his game.

Good catch on the puzzle!  We can probably expect 3A, 3B, 3C next...

Listening to 2B right now for the first time....barely on track 3 but WOW.  holy shit this guy's on FIRE.

  6. I agree.   I think the sequels are each bleaker and bigger than the one before.  The third one straight up gave me the most existential dread I've ever experienced reading ANY book.  Which one in the series you like best really depends on the kind of person you are, but for me, each sequel is better than the one before.  It's a very unique writing style too, every 15 pages or so is a super interesting idea that COULD be its own book.   And it's like that for the entire series.  You have to really like science too, I would not recommend this book to just anybody.  It takes a certain mind.   Just incredibly clever, and very big ideas.  The guy is a genius imo.

I just blasted through the first two books of Liu Cixin's The Three Body Problem trilogy. Damn... mind-bending sci-fi. Strong recommendation.

Dude hell yeah.  What did you think of The Dark Forest?  I went through all three of them this past Summer....as good as you think the second one is, the third one is even better.  I've possibly never read a better science fiction book in my life.  You're in for a treat.

  8. People are so fucking weird to complain.  It's an instrument, not a record...Buy it if you're a musician and you like it.  Don't buy it if you're not.  The Bassstation 2 was already a well regarded synth, especially good for the money.

He helped create a new firmware a year ago, and now this is the same machine with a few new interface things so the new features of his firmware update are easier to use, and the price is the same as before.  How can anybody complain about this?

Oh yeah, it's the internet.  Nevermind.

  9. Aleksi is just so fucking good.  Due to his massive output of good shit and just overall excellence I put him up there with Aphex as my favorite artist of all time.  This was Rephlex's greatest artist discovery, bar none.

I recently went back to the Astrobotnias after being away for a while.

DAMN  they are so brilliant and completely unique to anything else he ever did, it's like he invented his own genre, Spacey Spastic Braindance.  I'm glad he used a different name for this stuff.

As far as stuff under Ovuca, Wasted Sunday is the best thing he did.  One of my favorite albums of all time.

  10. path to the none is so beautiful

Probably my favorite track of the album.  I don't usually remember track names but I've looked at the song name whenever something magical is happening and that one has stood out since first listen. :)

  11. Have listened two times in full already.  I can imagine that people who are exclusively fans of Andy's goofy stuff won't like this.  However, IMO, after these listens I can say so far that this might be my favorite release of his.

With no exaggeration, this album is unlike anything he's ever done.  It's the most emotional and musically complex album he's ever written.  Super dreamy melodies and interesting chord progressions.  Every track feels like a sad, dreamy soundscape, but with signature Ceephax 80s drums.  Nearly no acid lines in the whole album, lots (and lots) of SH instead.  I can't count the number of good tracks, I really do love the whole thing.  It flows incredibly well.  As far as single vision albums go, this is most similar to  Cro Magnox, but this one is better.  So stoked to listen again today!
