    Addicted to Semena Mertvykh.

Seriously one of the best pieces of dark ambient I've heard. It also the thematic most fitting track on the album.

Still my favorite. Followed by Nothing is Real.

It is a wonderful track. I do really miss the static that was in the broadcast version, though!

It's interesting to me that this is the first track they played for us, and it's the last track on the album. Makes me feel like there is more music on the horizon.

LOL!!! maybe. That's why I'm not rushing to judgement. I certainly am digging it more now though. Maybe it's my environment. I've been listening to the album in my car almost exclusively... now it's 2 am, and I'm alone, at home, listening to it after receiving it presented all nice and shit. The art is beautiful. Really nicely done.

For the record, I've always maintained that there are some great tracks on this album. It's not too far fetched that the rest of it just needs to fall into place.

  3. I'm on my second listen now with the vinyl. I'm liking it a lot more...... This has been a very interesting evening. Whatever happens, I'm not going to make any final judgement on this album tonight. or even this week. Something is clearly happening right NOW though. The magic is returning.

Just wanted to let you know, we're all counting on you... and this record is fucking excellent.

EDIT: Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffin glue....lloyd-bridges.gif

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks brother.

 "Well, we had a choice of steak or fish. Yes, yes, I remember, I had lasagna."

You ever been in a cockpit before? No sir, I've never been up in a plane before. You ever…seen a grown man naked? ...Do you…like movies about gladiators?
  5. I think all four of the albums are about the same level. Maybe I'm retarded or something. They all have different merits though, that's for sure. G+MHTRTC are masterpieces, TCH and TH are really, really great albums by the same people who made those masterpieces. Wouldn't that kind of be like saying that if G is Beethoven's 9th then TH might be his sixth or fourth or something? That's an analogy, for those with bad logical ability.

In other words, Maybe TH doesn't have the greatest melodies in their entire repetoir... it has other virtues. It might be their most immersive and widescreen, atmospheric. When I listen to it I feel like it contains many areas. It's a journey. Check your expectations and comparisons, is all I'm saying. It would be genuinely idiotic to just discard it as a letdown and a bad album. The exact same thing can be said of mbv.

I am really starting to realize they weren't joking around about this album having more subliminals than anything else they've made, including G!

In fact, the production detail and nuance makes G sound like MHTRTC. Melodically it's less interesting, but it is more like ambient music than Geogaddi was. I think it's more comparable to FSOL's Lifeforms or something.

That's a nice perspective, Vamos.. and I'm having a decent listen here. The album is packaged beautifully, that's for sure. Palace Posy has never sounded better to me, and Reach For the Dead? Fucking Christ.

I'd been listening to Boards of Canada since 1998 & i cannot say that i'm impressed. Well, i'll give the record another spin. wait & see...

It only gets worse I'm afraid... I'm hoping they have some other music for us waiting in the form of an EP maybe? (and that it doesn't sound like a score from a horror film)

I thought you said were lovin it the other night blastin it while drivin around.... what happened? :cerious:

After a few listens, it just gets very stale. That has NEVER happened to me in hundreds of listens to their work previous to TCH. Where are the beats? Where is the emotion? Where is the attitude? I'm just not hearing it. Their music used to sound like it was made by some kind of supernatural force. At least TCH had "slow this bird down" There is always a few tracks of unparalleled beauty and grace, that just overwhelms me on their other albums. That track on THIS album could have been "Nothing is Real"...but it doesn't sound finished, and it doesn't have enough time to build. I feel horrible bitching about this album, and I was so sure they'd get it right this time, but I have to express myself.

Well, my vinyl has arrived tonight, and it's time to give it a go.

I'm sort of quietly amazed at the number of people who really dig the album. My friend just pinged me on facebook "new BoC is blowing my mind!"

    I mean...really?

I feel like a real freak of nature on this one, but no choice but to stick to my guns, I guess...

Freak of nature!? Yeah, like millions other people who don't like BOC. If you're on the outside of a niche, you're part of a majority.

    ;D

He didn't say he didn't like BoC.

I like the way Jacquard builds up. Collapse is pretty relaxing, the really airy sounds go nicely with the melody. Uritual is probably the only track I haven't really warmed up to. Oh well, just making conversation.

I really want to love it. I tried, but I shouldn't have to try.

Oh yeah definitely, don't force yourself. Lots of other great releases this year!

I wish it were that easy.

My main problem with the album is too much atmosphere, not enough beats. But that's personal preference when it comes BoC's music. When they do beats, they get it so, so right.

    Exactly.

I think for me, it all comes down to the beats. I miss their old sound. Good thing their old music NEVER gets old for me :music:

This series of sentences confuses me. Please explain.

The beats aren't doing it for me, I miss their old sound, and I'm glad I'll always have the old albums to listen to.

The beat in Cold Earth fucking slams, that one doing anything for you?

    Yes, it's a nice one.

  13. Yeah Cold Earth has invaded my brain. That metallic laser sound! Like did they just write the song and then go back and say "hmmm needs more lasers". So good. I also love how the melody turns inside out in itself, i'd like to hear how it sounds backwards. Remember when we thought there were flutes on this track haha

It was me who thought so. Start at 8:00 and listen for a minute or two. At the very LEAST it was the inspiration.. but I swear I hear the actual sample buried deep in the track, although slightly manipulated. If memory serves at least Lumpenprol heard them as well.

  14. So I listened to the album yesterday on a longer trip to work. What I kept in mind was a) that I was bored most of the time and b) "playing a four note motif over a whole track" is not enough for me, musically. TBH it makes me angry. Cold Earth: complex? c'mon. To me the album sounds like they have founded it on a minimum of ideas. "New seeds" was alright. There's even one change in notes there, incredible.

Maybe I should not listen too much to Shostakovich etc.... And not judge too fast. I'll see if I may like it more after a few listens.

My expectations from the hype ruined this album for me, for around 12 hours or so. After spending some time pissed off and not digging it, the next night I found myself in my car on the highway at 2am blasting it full volume.... a shit eating evil grin on my face. It takes a little bit. Listen to some other music for a while.
