Taking in the period 1996 through to 2002, 'Studio X Retrospective' features both rare and long deleted Cosmic Force cuts, all sewn together with the kind of invisible thread which elevates a good mix from mere compilation into barnstorming event. Boasting Drexciya's DJ Stingray at the and clocking in at 16 tracks, the album works on a number of levels - granting access to material that might otherwise go unheard, whilst proffering up a mix that heaves with momentum and self-propelled sequencing. Very much influenced by the carbonated digital funk that comprised Drexciya's aquatic palate, Cosmic Force are all about the contrasts; matching jump-wired beats and relentless rhythms to a bubbling pot of analogue basslines which serve to make the top-spin all the more distinct. So fresh you can smell the early morning dew, the likes of opener 'Otomatic', 'Who Can You Trust' and 'The Big Revenge' are towering examples of machine music able to be both brazenly brusque and intricately plotted simultaneously.
