lucid rhythms - "celestia one" live jam

for the last few weeks, i've been a busy boy. i'm now in a band. i can't decide whether we're awesome or shit yet. the band isn't called "lucid rhythms" cos that's my solo stuff name, but this song is a severe variation on one of my solo pieces.

anyway, there's a drummer who's more used to jazz music, there's a guitarist, there's a vocalist (who wasn't here for the jam this time) and there's me on about 50 synths and a computer and several thousand delay thingys.

this is the first time i've tried to do anything like this, but we came up with some stuff which sounded passable.

anyway, it sounds a bit iffy cos it was recorded using a room, a drum kit, a guitar, a couple of amps, and a mic going into this laptop. i.e. no line ins at all. which i'm changing for next week's jam cos some things are in the background a bit too much, i.e. my synths need to be louder.

anyhoo, less chat, more jam.

p.s. ignore the vocals on this, it's the guitarist getting a bit too mbv for my liking.

p.p.s. i know the piano clips at the end, it's cos i was trying to get it loud enough to drone out the vocals.

p.p.p.s. we also did a version of "all that jazz" and the drummer properly spazzes out in it.....

Not bad at all, very mellow and some good drumming. Its a bit 'busy' and kind of noisey if that makes sense. If some of the sound (mainly the drums and guitar) were more isolated and clear, maybe panned to different sides, I think it would sound better.

i would isolate the drums and guitar, but it was recorded with one mic. yeah, i know....

yeah i enjoyed that. sounds like a shitload of fun anyway. agreed synths/atmoshperes could be louder but i think it's a whole can of worms if you want to talk about the levels and mixing as you have some improving to do on how you record your jams. i'm anxious to hear one in the future where you have line-ins and such.

very cool though. makes me wish i was in a band. and lol tell your guitarist to gay it down a little with the vox. j/k. cool stuff thanks for sharing. does your band have a name?

yeah we do, erm basically the guitarist wrote it down and he couldn't even pronounce it so i told him to fuck off. i'm thinking of firing him and hiring this guy who can only play the irish rover.....also we need a bassist.

it was so much easier when it was all just me....

oh fuck yeah man, you can do that isdn thingy that the future sound of london did, and we'll stick a photo of fred mcgriff's head on the body of a mannequin with a guitar, and we'll put the speakers in that. no one will ever notice.

the drummer is a mentalist though. guitarist started playing one of his characteristically atonal riffs based around the only chord he knows (e minor) and the drummer just ignored him and him and i had this epic goliath battle based around who could be more fucking awesome. i'm sad to say that i think he won.

drummer's record collection is obscene though. gil scott-heron next to buddy rich next to sonic youth next to the downward spiral.

yeah well one of us has to.

and sho nuff ain't gonna be me, i turned up to the lash jam shitfaced (but mister drummer man didn't turn up anyway, he knows the score) and it was just guitarist, vox and moi on baby grand, sounding lushious. and yeah, i did record it. will upload later, fans. xxxxx

p.s. i'm drunk, went to the casino with 20 quid and left with 60 quid after roulette all night, and i've been retyping this shit for about an hour to remove spelling errors...
