I like the feature in firefox that lets you type directly into the address bar and if its not a valid web address then it just does a google search and you normally find what you want. But i cant see how I can choose the site it searches through; it changed to Google India a few weeks ago, no idea how I did that, and now I just updated and its searching through some sort of Vuze related google search... I think Vuze tried to install a toolbar add-on which i removed but whatever. Any help?

Normally it should use your default search engine you set for the search box off to the right - but to change it...

1. Type about:config in Firefox location bar and press Enter

2. Type keyword in Filter textbox and you will see only the preference keyword.URL.

3. Double-click on keyword.URL and change the value to:

http://www.google.com/searchbtnI=I%27m+Feeling+Lucky&q=

Are you being funny, or are you saying it actually didn't work?

Haha...I was trying to do both. Thanks for the help, are you sure that url is right, or do you know of another one I could try?

Sorry, it appears I left a crucial bit out:

start again with

about:config

then type

browser.search

in the Filter bar.

There is a setting called

browser.search.defaulturl

it should be set to

http://www.google.com/search?lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=

also a setting called

browser.search.defaultenginename

Make sure you change that from “Yahoo” to “Google”

Sorry, that was for the old version - look for

browser.search.searchEnginesURL

and change the value to

https://%LOCALE%.add-ons.mozilla.com/%LOCALE%/firefox/%VERSION%/search-engines/

This is for 3.5.3
