this will limit the amount of space system restore uses to 2 gigs

start - type 'cmd', rclick command prompt and select run as admin, then enter the following command:

vssadmin Resize ShadowStorage /On=C: /For=C: /MaxSize=2GB

although you'd be better off doing an upgrade install to win 7, vista is a fucking turd

Well almost 24 hours since system restore was shut off and things seem to be mostly well! The hard drive has not fluctuated in space, and the PC doesn't sound like it's birthing constantly.

I am getting the fuck rid of vista though and re-installing XP!

Thanks for all the help guys <3

You might also want to do Start - Run (or wherever Run is located in stoopid Vista) and enter: cmd

Then at the command prompt type: chkdsk /f

It'll then ask you if you want your drive checked on next reboot so press Y, then exit and then reboot

It could be that the allocation table got fucked up and that'll sort it out for you....

(and yeah System Store will eat up room too )

Until I started fapping over saw your av I took this to be a Fred post.

It's all good mate, uninstalling Vista tonight, and re-installing XP :-)

Install Windows 7, the performance is similar to XP but is far more stable

I don't have a copy, and with the state that my pc is in at the moment I'm unable to torrent.

(as has been suggested)

Lol! I think I will actually, I'll be consulting Father first, since technnically he paid for this. Considering my Dad steals shit from work all the time I'm sure he'll be up for it. Thanks!

Is there a danger yet of anyone advising me as to whether Windows' antivirus is a better bet than AVG Free?

I'm using AVG free, because I do not trust Vista for shit.

Same here George, although I'm on Windows 7 and wondering if there's any benefit to changing my AV.
