After the last episode... I'm fully compelled to say this is a shit series with a few midget-sized-fistfuls of non-shit moments.
-
Man... just finished ripping Madlib Medicine Show #5: The History of the Loop Digga... 44 tracks with little to no silence to distinguish when a track starts and ends. Well worth it though.
-
Yeah.. slim pickens over here... I'm heading over to Montana for a little vacation in July, hoping to find a nice spot.

Van McCoy and His Magnificent Movie Machine
What's this record all about? Van McCoy is probably my favorite soul producer/songrwriter from '60s and '70s (along with Holland Dozier Holland), but sometimes he has a bit of cheese, i.e. "The Hustle."
I have yet to listen to it, but by the looks of it, it seems to be Van McCoy doing covers of some of the most sought after movies themes.... gone with the wind, theme from shaft, over the rainbow and so on...

Really fucking nice find on the Charles Wright album... I have been on the hunt for that one.
Found this one not too long ago too.
The guy at my local record store is like the pusher for my vinyl habit.
Dayuum another one I have been on the hunt for... the only CW stuff I can find are reissues. It doesn't help that all my digging spots have rock'n'roll heads manning the front.

good stuff Deep... I still have to post my finds from the weekend
-
how is compass... been thinkin' about picking it up.
-
From the sample on your post I remember it sounded like a pressing issue and in most cases it is with newer records, but you never know... its previous owner could be just as crazy as I am. Have you tried wet cleaning it yet?
If you do decide to steam it be careful... it's going to warp if you steam but don't freak out as it will return to its original form when it cools. As long as you don't put an unusual stress on it, it will looks just as it did before steaming. I have even improved already warped records with steam... though not to their original state, but a bit flatter.
My new regiment:
Apply record cleaning solution and spread into grooves
Steam for 8-10 seconds while scrubbing the records
Vacuum dry or use a microfiber cloth
Steam again for 8-10 seconds to use as a rinse
Dry again and let it sit out for 5-10 minutes
-
For those of you interested, since I cannot speak to my gf, friends, or family regarding this as they think I have lost my mind... just did some testing with the steamer and can say it helps. It brought back to life a record I deemed un-listenable. I made some mp3's for ya'll
Les McCann and Eddie Harris - Swiss Movement 1969
I did clean with my usual routine before steaming, documented here, minus the declicking and all that: LINK
Pre-Steam:
After Steam:
Some Earth Wind & Fire for ya'll... I didn't do a pre-steam file but it still turned out great.
-
Just bought a little hand steamer to test cleaning my records with... going to add it to my cleaning regiment.
-
I order mine through Stones Throw... you'll uselessly get them a few days earlier plus they are packaged well.
Though UGHH usually package their shit nicely as well and it's always nice to use the $5 off $50 promo... I'm sure they'll hook you up, last I looked they still had some Vol 3 in stock.
I hope they come out with a nice box to put the whole collection in.

are those madlib medicine show anygood ?
I dig them a lot, but the majority says likewise. I enjoy albums with a lot of filler, especially when this filler is used properly; for example, setting the mood for the following track. Don't expect track after tracking of neck-snapping hits... expect a somewhat cultural milieu of organic thought that a blunt'd allegorist would tell.

There is a certain spirituality found in his tracks... they do much more than just nod heads.

Man I need to go digging again... spending $15 a sleeve on new vinyl just doesn't appease these urges.
