  1. This album is the tits. Below Confield and LP5, but exceptional.

When I first had Autechre's discography given to me by a friend (about a year and a half before Untilted) he didn't give me Draft, and for several months I didn't know it existed. After getting into them enough to start reading up on them, I found out about Draft. I confronted my friend about trying to hide the release from me, turns out he hated the album so much he didn't want to give it to me for fear I would not listed to the rest of their music if I heard it.

It took me awhile to get into it when I got it, but my friend hates everything from Draft on to this day. Kind of disappointed in his refusal to give them the time they diserve

  2. I'd been listening to them for about a year and a half by the time this one came out. A friend put their whole discography up to that point on my iPod.

It took about a year to get into Draft, but this one just took 7 years for me to warm up to it. Such is Autechre I guess

  3. I disliked this album for such a very long time. With the exception for Sublimit, which I originally saw as the only high point of the album.I listed to it a good bit when it first came out, but from ~july '05 on, I only listened to Sublimit. I remember kind of liking Pro Radii and The Trees, but never listened to them much.

I think my problem with it was the first minute of LCC, Augmatic Disport, and Fermium got so annoying so fast for me. The drum pattern was cool for the first 2-3 rounds through, but they dwelled on them too long.

I recently went back to give it another try, and now I'm all about it. It's still not in my top 5 of theirs, but I'm sold on it as a solid album.

I still feel the first minute of LCC and Fermium are the worst parts of the song, but once that minute is up, the songs become fantastic.

I still have mixed feelings on Augmatic Disport. It also has what I consider a terrible first minute, but then I like it. But then at about 4:30, the song goes to hell, and I hate it. But THEN, around the 6 minute mark, everything is exceptional again. I like that it takes my mind in many different directions, but the parts I'm not fond of will pull me out of whatever headspace I'm in, and all I can focus on is how much I'm not enjoying the song.

  4. Quaristice [...] fails to be one of my favorite because of this lack of unity.

Just wanted to agree with this.

And to reiterate that cohesion and "comfort" are by no means related. I wouldn't describe tracks on Confield as comfortable necessarily, but I love the album, and some of that stems from the album as a whole being an experience from start to finish. And I can't imagine listening to one track, they are all just an extension of the whole.

For me Quaristice seems like a mix-tape, compiled from various parts of Autechre's career, in no particular order, and then burned onto a CDR by some random guy. Most of the tracks are exceptional by themselves, but I just never feel like I'm listening to a legit album.

But anyway, Exai. Yeah, I can't wait either.

  5. I liked what TDR did for the chiastic slide and envane covers (in addition to amber). But typically im not too impressed with what they do. My three favorite cover arts (confield, draft & untilted) weren't done by TDR.

And the ep7 cover for that matter.

All the best artwork came from other people.

  6.

I've felt that way since quaristice. I like most of that album, and I enjoy all but 3 tracks in the oversteps/MoT series, but even still they didn't quite have that sharp/crisp focus of earlier material.

I'm still exaited by this upcoming monster of new material, but this one track seems more meandering than I'd like. That style worked for me on oversteps since i just happen to like meandering synths. But you take that idea and put it into the context if busy rhythms, and I'm not so sure.

Still, 6 minutes out of over 2 hours is not enough to judge the whole albums 'direction'
