  1. omg, i can't find any good questions but have you heard the yeezus album by kanye west, it sounds like shit at first listens but i think its fun and has a lot of excellent moments, my favorite 2013 release together with exai/l-event *ducks*

suppose he finds out about autechre and asks you friendly to do a track with, would you do it if you know it's gonna work??

well, i'd probably imagine its a nice thought, i mean money too, but its like , wouldn't we be just become some minions?

if it was proper collab, id be happier. really dunno his methods from the clips i see.

  2. YJY UX is my fav Ae track at the moment. It has such a huge impact on me; especially on my 'spiritual' state of mind ...like i'm at the center of sahara at sunset and transcendental things are starting to unfold. Such a joy! I'm literary experiencing it.

Can u please say anything more about it? ... i'm happy with anything u drop at me.

    Thnx!

So, like when your term is up here on watmm, (minus what I posted several threads ago about what I think will actually happen),

Will there be a "goodbye watmm!" or will you just disappear, whilst lurking, laughing at all the questions that will be pouring in for days?

i thought joyrex would lock it no?

when is the over? what timezone…..

  3. Wow you're still at it. Time for another that-bit-@ question:

Is there an extremely distorted voice-sample in tuinorizn at 0:20 / 0:21?

First time I heard this track was in an Amsterdam Hotel and I thought 0:20 was the landlord knocking at the door complaining cause we were being too loud.

    @Sean:

chris was introduced to me by caroline, who is mates with chantal, in a club in london in 94. alex lived with chris at the time.

    yeah pm me

    I did. :flower:

No need to hurry, just wanted to point that out so it doesn't get lost within the zOMG Hi!! -PMs you're probably getting.

hahah perfect, but no, voices. in the synthesis, theres glottal shit on the baseline

  4. what do you guys think of shit like this:

its doable, familiar elements every single one, but none an aesthetic I've ever not wanted around, i mean growing up with Art of Noise doing adverts, MAGI showreels, catching Vasulka films on BBC2 TV accidentally, all that was enriching for me, thats not gonna happen to kids now, so this suffices cos its supplying most of the same in a steady stream, so all good.

  5. Last 2 questions I promise :-)

Your live sets, say Oversteps, each year sound quite similar from town to town so how do you approach it? You have a foundation and then tweak over the top?

I kind feel bad for you guys at the moment although I am sure we are all enjoying chatting to you, but I cant help feeling like you are doing tech support.

So my final question is ,my Windows 8 computer isnt working. What should I do?

    =) chuck it.

  6. What percentage of your time awake per week would you estimate is spent doing some activity (research, daydreaming, experimentation, or active production) related to your music?

Have you found yourself in situations where you have to reject certain obligations (such as earning money, or going on dates, or spending time with family) because they would get in the way of your projects?

prob 12hrs on weekdays. weekends is not so.

  7. Was the "wob" bit near the end of jatavee C intended as an intentional play on what people call dubstep these days? Tongue in cheek, if you will?

Probably not, but many people dropped that word a lot when talking about jatavee C

Did you guys ever incorporated tongue in cheek bits on albums? Did that happen on every album?

I recall an interviewer once asking about the "humour" in some tracks or something. He took Sublimit as an example for some reason. Can't remember what your response was.

    its jatevee C, sorry. :P

its just a nice sound thats all the way thru - left on its own near the end. the whole track is clubby so yeah i bet they would.

sublimit is better considered as serious. just buoyant mbe

  8. I keep asking questions when you guys go to sleep so no sure if you answered or not?

DO you like doing the Sound On Sound and Future Music interviews where you talk more about your gear? Its always a great insight to see the studio and read about the gear, kind of like what you are doing now.

i'm not averse to nosing at some others' features, and from reading things about say 808state in mags like MT way back in the day for us, then newer mags SOS and FM approaching us was both weird cos it was me and my mate, but totally normal because it was inevitable eventually, but still am a bit freaked out by it. sometimes a chance to be sort of warmer and open about things…. and then 'no way, no ones coming in ere'

this approach feels way more 2sided right now.

  11. Repostin' some doss questions :derp:

1 - Whereabouts are the Paralel Suns and what's the name of each sun? (My round-about way of asking for a name for my elektrons* )

2 - You're dj-ing to the cons of Fury 161. What Phylyps "Trak" do you throw in the mix?

3 - Mike McMahon or Carlos Ezquerra?

4 - Minimal Nation or Internal Empire?

5 - "Happy Cycling" or "You Could Feel the Sky"?

    6 - Selected Ambient 1 or 2?

thank you for making Draun Quarter.

it will always remind me of moving cross country a long time ago, listening to this as scenery and roadside weeds flash by at speed, lots of emotion bubbling up, all seeming to click with the elements of the music as I drive several hundred miles west into the sun, untethered between homes. your sounds are tattooed on my brain.

speaking of tattoos, do either of you have any? I'm one of those 'blanks' who thinks life will provide enough scars and character over time naturally. It, well adornment in general, seems way more prevalent here in the land of smoke-screens and window dressing.

Draun Quarter is the bees knees, outro is bliss. Ae Top 20 (or 10?) for sure ;)

thanks back...totally glad it sorted you out

    1-

    2-

    3-

4- internal empire (cos of the title track), 'and' minimal nation, (cos its longer)

    5- both for sure

    6- 1

  12. After crawling through all 112 pages of this... wow.

    1. You guys mentioned a custom MIDI replacement. Have you switched to ethernet or are you using something a bit more basic for routing the protocol?

    2. Fans of the shows Nighty Night or Human Remains?

    3. FREE PARKING: Answer your own question!

And just because I always wanted to be a lemming: My Yamaha TG-77 module is in need of a name so the rest on the rack can feel jealous. Thanks in advance!

2 - yeah i am. can't help it, Nighty Nights a bit more normal - i prefer Human Remains, its more crushing.

You are influenced by a lot of hip-hop, mainly 80's. Do hip-hop artist that listen to your music hear that influence? How do most hip-hop artist or fans react to your music?

Outkast praising Squarepusher, Kanye West sampling Aphex Twin... Were there ever any big rap/hip-hop names that approached you for collaborations/productions, or wanted to sample you (or have?)?

Any well-known rapper that you want to be approached by?

    *push*

lel kanye sampled afx, which track? didn't know about that

no clue i dunno how many hip hop ppl check our stuff

i know el-p likes some of it, he approached for collab once, might still happen i was busy as fuck at the time

i dunno there are so many i like, like asking me what's my favourite cheese or something

afx is sampled in this shameless thing:

yeah course, heard that. not bad for a bit lame - but they just had the catchy bit and should've ran with more of the rest imo
