  1. Does anyone remember the Syntheme controversy from 2009? As far as I understood, the tracks were presented as if they had been made by a girl (Louise Wood) but they had actually been made by Global Goon (Johnny Hawk). And because of how they were presented they got more attention than Johnny Hawk's tracks normally did.

  2. The price of Bitcoin looks like it might break the all time high soon (Coindesk shows $16,747 right now. The all time high was $19,665). Unlike 2013 and 2017, I haven't seen any media attention to the price rise for some reason

ASMR is weird/gross, I heard some people even get boners from it. It's very sexual and very immoral. Never do it

I don't know if this post is meant as ironic or not. If it was meant literally, it is incorrect. ASMR in itself is not sexual, although some people mix it with sexual content. This is similar with how music is intrinsically not sexual, yet there are half naked pop stars singing songs with sexual lyrics because that is what sells. Most people do not experience the ASMR tingles. Because of this, ASMR makes no sense to them (or they think they understand it but actually don't). Someone who never gets ASMR tingles criticising ASMR videos is like someone who was born deaf criticising music videos: the most important component goes missing for them.

he won't die from it. all that mickey d's grease coating his insides will save him. and his outer layer is protected from years of spray tan abuse. donald's one of these guys you could drop in the middle of the sahara and he'd stumble out a few days later unscathed saying "phew, I really need a diet coke after that." he's like a scam artist terminator.

This is exactly like the video of Hermann Göring in the desert:

Yeah, in the middles ages, John Lennon might have had a hard time in a more formal art environment.

What makes you think John Lennon would have been in any kind of art environment in the middle ages? He'd probably be a peasant like 80% to 90% of the population at that time. He would have had about 50% chance of dying before reaching adulthood. He'd have very narrow knowledge of previously existing music (limited to what other peasants in his village and neighbouring villages knew). He'd be slaving in a field that's likely not owned by him. He'd probably get whipped for spending time playing an instrument instead of working for a feudal lord in the field.

I'm an engineer, so my views are very pragmatic.  People should be paid for what they contribute to a society, and it seems like art always comes near the end of the list after more "essential" needs are met.

It seems to me that the current state of things is that people whose main output is hot air (middlemen, managers, marketers, speculators, frauds, politicians) tend to get paid well and people who actually produce anything don't usually get paid as much

Absolutely mental. Will go to supreme court and get rejected if he pushes it.

I hope Trump will not try a military coup to stay in power past the elections. His justification would be that the radical left/communists/anarchists are causing chaos in the country and the only way to counter it is to give more power to Trump. This kind of resembles Hitler and the Reichstag fire

  8. I think something was not right with your calculation that gave 1 per 28206 as the death rate in the EU. I tried replicating this with the numbers taken from worldometers.info and got 1 per 3436.34 as the answer instead. I'm putting the raw numbers for the EU countries in the spoiler, so you can check if I was wrong somewhere if it looks like that to you
