The slow pace lets your really look & listen at the details and it’s a shame that it’s actually not very good in the audiovisual departments.. the sound design is really b-tier (farting VR camera drones... gurgling oxygen masks... what is this, a PlayStation game?) and the computer interfaces look like they’re all programmed in JavaScript by the same intern.

I'm curious what bar you're comparing this too. Can you give examples of films you feel have better audio/visual elements?

Fury Road. Which is admittedly a very high bar, it being fkn phenomenal. Comparing 2049 specifically to it tho because they’re both sci-if sequels which mostly function through the world/athmosphere they’re building, and they’re both recent.

Ah, interesting! I adored Fury Road, it was probably my favorite film of that year as well as 2049 for last year. I consider both to be on equal ground when it comes to the A/V tech.

Finally got around to watching this the other day. If naught else, it is a striking tribute to the feel/aesthetic of the original film. Not a carbon copy, and there are differences, but I felt like it did a good job of conveying . . . mmmm . . . a similar mood. A friend of mine called it a tone poem, which I think is accurate - but I also am not always in the mood for a tone poem, so would be hard pressed to re-watch unless I'm really in that mood.

Fury Road - omfg - what a masterpiece. Every shot feels like it was an expertly planned work of art (but I guess have 13 or whatever years to plan storyboards helps).

Re: BR - makes me excited to see what he comes up with for Dune. . .or, maybe, cautiously optimistic. . .

  2. So weird/interesting. Had a very counter experience with this season versus the first season. . . my wife hated the first season because, in her words, "nothing fucking happened." I didn't hate it as much and appreciated it for the aesthetic/nostalgia factor - thought it was quite good (but not mindblowing).

Guess I came into the second season with low expectations. . . maybe BECAUSE there was so much hype. Really enjoyed it, felt like things moved along well, definitely tickled the nostalgia factor, like the acting and the characterization (feel like, having spent one season building characters, they actually had more room to spend time exploring them). *shrugs*

Oh. Except that Chicago episode. yeah, FUCK THAT. It'd be the episode you'd show someone if you wanted to convince them that Stranger Things is the worst show ever made.

PS I live in NC so also got a kick out of all the local references, Jordan Lake, Mr. Sinai Road, etc. . . .

Someone on reddit posted this -  lol, not that I believe it's a necessarily intentional thing, but I do like the cut of their jib

... oh, yes, first post - used to be here regularly then left but still lurked for a while. I know, I know, read the rules, did you hear about that jazz band that plays aphex twin, just biked in to say where are the newest pics of leah? etc. etc.

Sorry man, but that reddit post is seriously reaching if srs.

It's a smile whilst baring teeth. At most, it is a photo of Laura Palmer smiling, shooped into the frame (as Hello Spiral posted in discord the other day).

This isn't any reference to Arsephex Twonk.

Oh yeah, no, it's totally a reach - just found it amusing. . . do remember when people where tossing off lists of who might replace BOB now that Silva is dead and tha Phex came up... it would never happen but GD it would seriously have married two of my favorite things.

Arsephex Twonk  :emotawesomepm9:  -  we should petition JR to formally rename the Aphex sub-forum (and all related references) accordingly.  . .
