Watched the new restoration of Andrei Rublev (my all-time favorite film). First time I'd ever seen any cut of the film in a theater. Theater was packed, which was a pleasant surprise.
Now for my controversial take...I hate this cut of the film. I also hate the sudden insistence from many that "Tarkovsky preferred this cut". The social context behind it (i.e. Soviet censorship pressure) makes this argument very hard to take at face-value. The history behind the U.S.S.R. trying to prevent this film from being seen after its completion only enforces that doubt.
But if you want demonstrative evidence, try this:
The first scene with the Jester. At the end of the Jester's joke, he does a handstand to reveal his bare ass with a smiley face drawn on it. The restored cut takes the nudity away. It also neuters the joke.
I've noticed that all advocates for this cut ignore this moment entirely, focusing solely on the animal shots (which, sure, I can see why people would prefer their removal). However, the spoiler'd cut, that was just prudishness to the detriment of the film. Essentially, I've seen a whole lot of advocacy for censorship.

I'm not sure how interesting Metro Boomin is. Why do you think that?
I like his specific take on the horror sound. The Without Warning album is one of the most consistent hip hop albums I've ever heard (which, imo is surprisingly rare). He managed to get people to appreciate 21 Savage's style/delivery, specifically on an album with Offset killing every verse he had.
I guess I was being a bit hyperbolic but out of the big name producers out right now, he's certainly my favorite. I personally think that him, Southside, TM88 and all the way back to Lex Luger have a very great ear for atmosphere in tracks. Metro to me is like an amalgamation of all their styles with more talent (save for Lex Luger, who's career trajectory is a tragedy).
edit: And I'm specifically staying within the range of about the last 10 years or so. Going back further obv. the Memphis stuff is the origins.

Counter-point: Southern rap (esp. what came from Atlanta in the Freaknik-era) is vital music and should be heralded without the ridiculous region-based stereotypes.
Another counter-point: Metro Boomin' is the most interesting producer in hip hop right now. And has been for about 2 years...

It was shipped from Germany but this was over 18 months ago. I've probably let the reasonable contact time lapse. And also, it really wasn't Koma's fault (DHS/USPS confirmed the location of the item all the way from Germany to Dallas, and then it went into the ether).
Ironically, I wound up getting a Field Kit FX second-hand recently and am very satisfied with it. I think it's more useful to me than the original Field Kit would have been (I don't have enough space to really setup all the crazy experimentation available to max out the Field Kit). The Freq. Shift on the Field Kit FX is really cool to have on hardware (if a bit noisy). As an aside, for iOS users, VirSyn's BandShift app is a really good alternative.

Also, on the subject of shipping horrors:
1. I supported the first Field Kit Kickstarter, and USPS lost the package in transit. After months fighting with them, they flat out told me I was SOL. I was so frustrated I didn't even reach out to Koma (also, it wasn't their fault and I didn't want them to incur the charge).
2. I had a Strymon Mobius shipped to me recently. USPS guy actually shows up at my door all smiles (rather than delivering to the Amazon hub like the other 99% of the time). The box is half crumpled like it got saved from a compactor at the last second. Luckily the Mobius was fine but that delivery guy's smile was one of the most pointed "Fuck you"s I've received in a long time, even if unintentional.

Thanks, but most of these are improvised on the spot (when they're not, it's still mixed live but the tracklist was created/sequenced prior) so it usually isn't much prep. I sleep more than I should currently! -

I grew up about an hour from Highway 20 so some of the areas shot (namely the huge timber yard) brought back memories. Also Maggie Haberman was the Executive Producer and that's pretty much a seal of quality, imo.

The Gertrud character is an inspiration of mine. This book's take is quite different than mine on the decisions and fates of the character but I still like the book. It's an interesting background on Dreyer's meticulous research practices and his interest in trying to get past an author's own potential biases in an biographical take on a subject and trying to find more direct evidence of behavior from the subject themselves.

2 Roland-related things:
1. I got Roland support to actually acknowledge an issue! The current firmware on the JP-08 doesn't allow for patches to be saved with edits made from external CC's in Manual Mode (and I believe in any patch as well). Only from local stuff. Roland actually confirmed it.
2. Picked up a Roland M-1000 recently. Amazes me there's not really any equivalent gear out there, at least in the price range of the M-1000 (there are very high-end S/PDIF splitters but yeah, not really what I was looking for). The M-1000 is great and a major convenience.

Reality Bites is the most 90's movie ever
I spent the weekend revisiting old Herzog films. Listening to the commentary to Stroszek specifically is interesting. Herzog's priorities of mise en scène for the final sequence are rather telling.
