  1. Good overall response here, considerable preference for sennheiser huh? I'm thinkin i wanna get the audio technica m50x. Positive reviews in general but it also has the interchangeable cords so i don't have to use that awful coiled one. Also less likely to wear out the connection from movement

  2. What kind of headphones do you use/like the most? Any manufacturers in particular that have your constant nod of approval? What tends to bother you about headphones on the market nowadays?

I've searched but (surprisingly) failed to find any discussion here dedicated to headphones. Been needing to pick up a new pair soon, and push has come to shove since my Denon headphones (would not recommend) are literally falling to pieces. Especially unsure which ones i want next since my uses have broadened (monitoring many machines at once, EQing, listening to records, general music listening-to). Only thing i know is that they must be over-the-ear

Hey Joyrex, I've been thinking to ask this for a some time now so now that we've got an own thread for MfM will drop my query here. All those times you've assured us that the MfM which everybody knows is only a demo if anything and thus miles away from the actual tracks, has made me curious if you have actually heard the vinyl version (CAT 087) or do you just assume/use your wits or know from Richard's words that the bootleg tracks are completely different game?

And how would you compare them to the new re-worked ones? :rhubear2::whistling::spiteful:

Ah, how to answer this... carefully.

I don't think I said that the tracks (quality) is "miles away" from the demo; that could be assumed by the fact it was a cassette passed around between WARP and Rephlex heads versus a test pressing made from a master.

The tracks on the test pressing are different than the demo; as to which tracks exactly are on the test pressing (and if there are ones that were not on the demo or just omitted for the test pressing) I do not know.

There's only a few people that actually own CAT087 (Minecraft Notch is one; GWC is another); more scarce than CAT023! (AFAIK, there are 2-3 copies left in existence; about 5-7 of CAT023, and loads* of CAT034 ABB5). Supposedly no copies of CAT002 still exist; even Richard has said he doesn't have any, and the tracks themselves are on DATs in storage.

*less than 50, but no more than - again, guesstimates based on comments from those "in the know"

    Needs more "..."

A lot of the reissues these days are released without the label having bothered/managed to source down the original artwork or proper reproductions thereof. LPs are being pressed where the cover is a scan of an LP cover (or sometimes even the CD cover), ie a generation loss.

Well that's really shit. I ordered it from the Aphex bleep store, figured they'd put a little more effort. I might say something

I would - out of curiosity, could you take a picture of the cover to show us what you're talking about?

  6. I've been watching the shit out of those dead mall videos recently, some of them get pretty wild i.e. when he breaks into actually dead (abandoned) malls. He puts a lot of DMT Tapes FL on his videos i recall, but the music is always equalized and reverberated so it sounds like it was actually playing in the mall. Sometimes he'll put footage/commercials from a mall's heyday just to contrast with what it is today. It's effectively v a p o r w a v e

  7. As the result of a Willy Wonka guerrilla marketing warfare strategy, most of these records and tapes are not being played and are gathering dust.

Idk dude, my houston record is pleasantly worn. The record itself has particles and fingerprints from repeated play and the jacket is water damaged from the rain that night. Just ensures that it's mine and nobody elses :)

Only nerds keep these things sealed in plastic

I've always liked Ventolin and was mildly obsessed with the video (that Richard hates) for the song.

Same, it was one of the few videos i kept on my zune (lol) back in my teens

    #22 ("Spots"):

Someone I used to know, you know who you are, worked as a cleaner in a police station and kindly pinched me a police interview tape. It was with a woman who murdered her husband, it's the background audio in this track.

Just made this track 10x more fucked up  :music:

  9. Maaan, everyone on here is up their own ass in one way or another lol. I think it's bound to happen when you accumulate a bunch of people who are Serious About The Music at the same time as such a prolific release. We get all excited and manic and bypass those filters we probably should use when posting on the internet

This is especially the case when WATMM has the visibility it does..like, some people around the world use these topics for play-by-play updates on culture that is very important to them. It's wise to maintain some sort of community responsibility. The tip of the iceberg here is users with all their locker room talk, but the larger portion is made up of faceless spectators. Some passer-by comes in to catch the latest on Aphex Twin and what do they see? This forum is no tearoom at the country club, but i think it still has some maturity to uphold
