    About this album

Welcome back to the ever-evolving landscape of Oval's "Now / Never / Whenever" EP series.

Like its predecessor, "Vol.2" is a fleeting exhibit of Oval's creative flair, presenting a curated selection of exclusive, previously unreleased material that dissolves into the ether after 24 hours.

    Track comments Vol.2:

    1 - Blinkyvista (2022)

After releasing “O” in 2010, I transformed several of the 50 minimal vignettes from the second disc into longer, evolving tracks for my live sets. These featured jazz drums and electronic sounds, mainly from the mighty Surge software synth – a tool that's still a staple in my toolbox today. This version is a 2022 makeover of “Blinky,” revisiting the jazz drums and adding my take on avant-garde instrumentation and ethereal faux vocal harmonizations.

    2 - Anderslo (2015)

This track is from a perfume-themed album that I had nearly completed (98%, I thought at the time) and had been working on for years. It's been sitting idle since then, more or less waiting for technology to catch up. However, when remastering this particular outtake, I realized that reworking these tracks might be an endless endeavor. So, the perfume album might get released as it is, after all.

    3 - Fla (2014)

This track is from a “song album” that I started back in 2014, which has intermittently been on the back burner ever since. “Fla” stands out as the most experimental track, while the rest of the 12-track album explores a form of catchy DIY songwriting. I find myself constantly debating whether this approach is an outdated concept from the start.

“Now / Never / Whenever” is an episodic experiment, a sonic journal cataloging outtakes, reworkings, and experiments from the secret shelf… exclusive today, elusive tomorrow.

Look forward to a new monthly mirage, every Bandcamp Friday. Each EP adds new pieces to a sonic puzzle, creating a shape-shifting, virtual album that vanishes in a blink.

[Note: As always, this EP is available on a "pay what you want" basis for its 24-hour lifespan. Your kind support directly fuels these ongoing experiments in sound - thank you.]

  2. I preordered the vinyl for myself even though I don't own record player. I also bought a cd to lend to friends. I'm feeling no guilt about the leak. If anything I'm grateful I can go back to living a normal life, one where I'm not refreshing watmm every two seconds.

  3. I've probably listened to 'Any No. Between 1 & 17 (Autechre Remix)' close to a thousand times, no exaggeration. Does there exist a higher quality version of that track that I might be able to persuade you guys to sell to me if I were to come into a load of money? Like if I gave you a million dollars could I get a 24bit WAV of it?

You guys are the best, thanks for doing this thread.

  4. The clips sound great. I'm super relieved that even from what little I've heard Exai seems like it will be less boring than queersauce, OS and MoT. I've already pre-ordered the cd, but now I'm thinking about pre-ordering the vinyl. I've never really had any experience with vinyl. Does anyone think it would be worthwhile for me to purchase a record player for this? If so, is it okay to buy a cheap player or do I need to invest a couple hundred to do it right? Do I need an awesome stereo to appreciate the difference? Or should I just stick with the 320 kpbs mp3s and my $200 earbuds? (I probably won't ever open the cd, just buying it cuz I want it.)

  5. After listening to Oversteps a few times I've really come to to love Untilted, an album I used to hate on. Untilted is now in constant rotation. The more I play Oversteps the more I want to listen to Untilted. Oversteps currently doesn't do much for me but I'm sure if I had a decent stereo to listen to it on I would appreciate it more.

  6. I posted earlier that I didn't get my confirmation from Rephlex right away. Turns out google had sent it to my spam box even though it came from googlemail.com. I now have a googolplex of terrabytes of wav files.

  7. Just bought Mental Union and the Analords. I hope I am someday able to download them as I have yet to get a confirmation from rephlex even though it's been half an hour or so. Still, even if they never give me a link to the files, it's very nice to be able to finally pay for tracks that I had no other choice but to slsk three years ago.
