  1. It just blows my mind how they can justify to have everyone flood their site and download the mp3 release but the lossless ones are deemed "too bandwidth intensive" on an already flawed download system. I'm also not a jerk when it comes to quality, I just like lossless since hard drive space isn't an issue for me and since Warp has been great about providing the 24-bit WAV masters I always liked the fact that there was the option.

You can convert 24-bit WAVs to 24-bit FLACs at no loss of quality to save a bit of space, although to be honest the only albums in the last few years to provide the WAVs have been Warp's artists and Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, and that's about it.

    Hi D,

We're sorry you are disappointed that there is no lossless download with the Boards of Canada release. No other store is offering a lossless download with the record so this is the same as everywhere else.

You have ordered the CD which has 16-bit lossless files on it. Are you talking about 24-bit WAVs?

Our standard offering of a digital counterpart is an MP3 version. For certain projects we have offered a higher quality download than MP3 but this is by no means standard.

Looking at your order history I can see that you have received 24-bit downloads of Autechre's releases in the past so I totally understand why you would expect this with this album. However the cost of providing every Boards of Canada customer with a 24-bit download was prohibitive with the numbers involved.

I share your passion for high quality files but in this case we tried to be as clear as possible in stating that an MP3 version only was what we were offering.

Please feel free to respond and let us know if you think this is unreasonable.

...was prohibitive with the numbers involved? I read that as "Our pitiful Amazon AWS server cannot handle that many http downloads of the 24-bit WAVs so we've decided to fuck you over"

    Bleep = dead to me

Long live the pirated throes of Warp records

  3. maybe i'm way off base here but the same technology that makes unique hashes for downloads can also be applied to private torrents, along with about 10 other ways media can be presented without your point of sale site taking the piss because of server demand because people are downloading over http

from an IT perspective bleep is like geocities

  4. I'm honestly trying to like this album. The excess of vocoder is making me angry. Is it sad that Giorgio by Moroder is my favorite track so far? I totally dig the hat tip to the '70s vibe of funk and disco but I just don't see myself playing this over like a fiend. I see it getting shelved quickly.

  5. From Bleep:

This is a mail out to customers who ordered and downloaded 24-bit WAVs of Autechre - 'Exai' from Bleep yesterday.

A fault has been discovered on "T ess xi", track 5 from Exai. This applies to the the 24-bit WAV version only - MP3, FLAC, 16bit WAV were all fine. The fault was discovered, and the corrupt track replaced at 17.14 (GMT) yesterday. All the other files remain unchanged. If you downloaded after this point you will not be affected.

  6. What do you speculate is the main reason there are no leaks yet:

    1. The people who have promos are just stand-up citizens of the nets

    2. The promos have sophisticated watermarks and threats attached to them

    3. WARP gave some monetary or other kind of incentive to the people who got promos

    4. Autechre specifically mentions in every promo's cover letter not to leak it so that gl0tch can't hear it

    5. It leaked weeks ago but a forum script auto-deletes any mention of it immediately, in a forum post, private message or CHATMM

    6. Everyone who has a promo thinks they can't rip it because it sounds like the CD is skipped

    9. If the file data is copied or moved more than 1.5 times, it re-writes itself so that all the tracks are silent

    7. Promos have subliminal messages that make the listener forget they even have it

    8. Sean's mom said no
