Also not sure if it's just me but it seems like the overall sound quality and recording/mastering is their best ever, the way all the layers of sound interact is phenomenal, there's some kind of extra richness in the synth chords, so many little details that build up in the background especially on headphones

But maybe I'm just not really listening I guess :)

I'm the opposite. TH sounds so flat to me when compared to Campfire Headphase or Geogaddi. Those two albums I can hear layer after layer but TH still isn't striking that chord with me. Go figure. It must be me because you're not the first person to make that observation.

Maybe you have to join the dots yourself? Perhaps your imagination needs to fill in those blanks on the canvas? The sounds on the album created just enough to pique footpaths on the maps in your brain.

Book a plane ticket to Alice Springs and go on a journey into the desert. Play this fucking loud. I bet a different beast sounds it's call.

    (Drunk post lol  )

I was in Las Vegas when the desert listening session happened, and when it actually came out I listened to it while driving through the desert from Las Vegas to Denver which I think really enhanced everything from then on

Well there's a ton of people on both sides of this angle, so it's definitely not just you :) I feel like I'm in the minority on this one!

  3.

People don't really listen to the album, I think. It's like they all say it's great, but they don't actually listen to it lol

Trust me I still play albums. From beginning to end. And this one is perfect for such quests.

I'm not blowing smoke up the Sandison's arseholes I can assure you.

I enjoy it every time I put it on, and sometimes I try to force myself to think of it negatively to see why it got such bad reactions, but even then it still seems to overcome the bad expectations.

I think the album art and some track titles/vague concept turned some people off, yet the music itself is not really that different overall, and if you put some happy 70's nostalgia stuff on the cover it might have had a totally different reaction in terms of the vibes... I don't find the music is really much simpler or less melodic or all these things people mention, if I play a random track back to back with the rest of their material it fits together fine...I also think many of the tracks are pretty uplifting in terms of mood

Most BOC fans that I knew had this same kind of backlash for Geogaddi, a bunch of us would listen to MHTRTC non stop but then with Geogaddi everybody was like "it's just not the same" and kind of gave up on them altogether, now Geogaddi is revered

Anyone else having a hard time accessing the SC page? it keeps telling me that the user doesn't exist!! :( but then sometimes it works and then freezes

Yeah, I can't play his tracks too. He's gone again, maybe?

Don't worry i think the whole site is half broken, Mike P is off and on and I can't even see who i'm following at all

  5. If this whole premature ejaculation /poll voting malarkey has nullified Richard continuing with the uploading of tracks beyond 1994 I'll be fucking livid.

Well he just commented that there's a longer version of Pigeon Street that he might be able to find, so let's all stay positive in here :)

  6.

please tell me that nobody on this forum get introduced to aphex via his album artwork or his two famous video. sound waves lol pls

I got introduced to him at a house party which was playing a shitty tape copy of SAW. Worked for me.

Yes it's about sound carried by waves

Plastic and video and cardboard is fine but not essential for music that can stand on its own

  7. I don't even know how any of whats going on be taken in a negative light. Fuck loads of Aphex music at our disposal as it is. Plus a release of a polled 'best of' fully mastered. This is all a dream come true.. ( oh and a medium to talk directly to Rich, in which he is actually responding and reading tons). This is all fucking amazing and fun.

Exactly, its all amazing and I'm sure he's not worried about the logistics of this project as it develops

After this many years he must know his fans are rabid and he can't satisfy every suggestion they make :)

At this point on Soundcloud he's probably been asked for downloads in the comments at least 300 times!

He might be resisting downloads to avoid unmastered rough tracks being considered as finished products, so he might really enjoy having some chosen by fans that he can bring to their full potential and show how it's done, with all the skills and recording equipment at his disposal now :) Then when they're released in whatever format, he can be satisfied with the production and not thinking he could have boosted this or eq'd that or fixed the drums or slowed it down, etc

We all know how detailed he is about sound, but he's made no apologies about streaming at 128 and hasn't even really addressed downloading at all despite the constant comments; he must know what they sound like at 128, so for his purposes on unrefined tracks 128 might be more than enough-- "Lifetrax" was basically a more mastered version of "last clissold maybe", and to me sounds better streaming at 128 than the raw last clissold sounds at 320

I came in here for a mental break from a complicated day and now every post is like a technical document :)

Read the rules. Peer-reviewed posting up in here from now on, only deemed acceptable if performed at standard temperature and pressure (273.15 Kelvin, and 1 atm pressure). Get your format and citations right, and don't start talking about music or equipment unless you're prepared to attach the appropriate wiring schematic(s), bro.

This was taken in my community last year, somebody was changing all the neighborhood watch signs

(there was also voltron, mario and the care bears)

  9. I don't want to hear "random users choose their favourite AFX track". I want to hear what he thinks would make a compelling release/series of releases.

Failing that, something curated by Mike P. (too busy running a great label), Sean and Rob (too busy decoding alien signals into human music), Tom J. (too busy designing new masks), or Luke V. (too busy being a boss).

But really, really, really what I want is for the stream of great music to keep flowing!

But then who would curate Mike P's Soundcloud? :)

But yes, as long as the spice keeps flowing anything else is gravy

  10.

I really feel sorry for people releasing electronic music of the more experimental/braindance ilk at the moment... I can't tear myself away from these Aphex tracks to listen to anything else!

True but don't miss out on Mike P he's throwing some serious serious heat and up to 180 tracks now himself

Oh I'm on top of that one as well. Between the two of these there is little time for much else :/

Yes I did see you're well on top of it :) just making sure any other fans don't miss out, some real brain melting stuff in there and keeps getting better

  12.

loving string slush (except that weird bar of percussion, outtake?), reminds me of something not AFX but can't quite remember what

    girl/boy song, Goon Gumpas?

I thought there was an orb track from their Kompakt album or around that period with similar strings but I couldn't place it last night, in my head it has a strong 4/4 beat

  13.

I thought that meant he'd just started posting tracks from 95, not 94?

    He's uploading now btw :D

I read it as he's been choosing tunes from through the years with a certain kind of sound and he's gonna start widening the net to include more unexpected nuggets

    ...like Mulberry Bush

Yes I think that's correct, as he's already posted a 1998 for instance, and he specifically said "type of track"

  14. Great comment:

@richard-shepherd-8: ha, well i was here one saturday uploading and there was nobody here, all out enjoying yourselves, so i gave up & went to bed.

He obviously enjoys all the comments and buzz that the uploads produce, bit obvious I suppose but nice to see his human side. But I can't believe there was a recent Saturday where I and a hundred others wasn't periodically F5'ing SC!

Looks like we need even more continuous F5'ing, maybe in shifts :)

Although it sounds like something was broken, because how could there be nobody there, people comment on these within a few minutes every time...

Or could be trolling because he knows we're all watching like hawks 24 hours a day
