  3. hey I feel like rambling on a topic I know very little about, so suffer me now:

ahem. even if AI/AGI gives "us" a better understanding of consciousness/our place in the world etc, it's a little odd to think that an intellectual advance like that will have an existentially meaningful impact on most people's day to day lives. we'll still live in the world in our own little monads, and AI isn't going to just override the daily experience/confusion of living in the world. our understanding of ourselves is a very personal affair, it isn't a simultaneous species-wide advancement, and I'm certain that technology cannot tell us who or what we actually are on the most important levels, nor can the broader category of technological sciences. even if AI causes "us" to stop and reflect on our human situation at some point, it won't alter our basic feeling/apprehension of ourselves in any sustained way - that is something that only occurs person by person, and is rewarded directly by how seriously one takes the problem and investigates it for themselves. we are not all on the same level. AI can take over the world and there will still be mouth-breathing couch potatoes and deeply unbalanced individuals marching alongside the scholars and intelligentsia. any and all talk of "bettering humanity" through technology like this is nonsense, it's just this decade's "better living through chemistry." we all have to do the work ourselves; all the world's knowledge at our collective fingertips won't do a thing to change our course if we don't internalize it - and that's what worries me about AI. this insane promise that having all this knowledge will somehow make us better, by pure access alone. it's ridiculous. merely owning an encyclopedia doesn't make a person more intelligent

okay now somebody ask chatgpt to summarize my post. looking at you, ooooo

  4. on a different but still deadly note,

one of my tires looked a little flat so I checked it and thought the gauge was broken: five psi? insane. checked the other tires, all normal levels.

don't know how long I was driving like that but jfc I'm feeling lucky that it survived. yay for buying the not-least-expensive tires last year 🎉

ps - sorry to hear about your family's late shit attitude mr member 😕

not to add insult to injury, but I hear those jobs are incredibly difficult to get, especially if there are military veterans in the applicant pool. Being a veteran often helps. Although if you are qualified and the work is some kind of specialist niche then maybe better shot at landing an interview? Nice work if you can get it, though. The benefits and pension especially are probably top-tier. Have you ever tried looking for work on the government job portal based on the state you are in (instead of applying to jobs at the federal level)? That might be a good place to look as well.

oh yeah, it was a bit of a long-shot, but i wanted my name in the hat anyway. and yeah it was open to veterans, spouses of govt workers, and general US citizens. woulda required relocating, but $60/hr leading to $80/hr after a few years woulda been pretty sweet.

and indeed I do get alerts for certain jobs from my state. Waiting for a particular job to open up - they put out listings kinda irregularly but I'm waiting patiently and getting my certifications in the meantime🤞

I've noticed that as well. it's like the opposite of having helpful wikipedia links come up as top search results on a lot of subjects. and with the company going public they're awash with more money than ever.

of course it's not as obviously bad as the twitter cesspool but reddit - in particular, getting your opinions from reddit - is actively making the world a dumber place. it's a massive echo chamber for the noncommittal centrist/"liberal" hivemind that understands nothing except optics. the upvote/downvote system practically guarantees this outcome. I give some credit to people who were redditors in their teens or early 20s but have moved on and become wiser, but there's always the next generation of idiots that think they're making a difference in the world while updooting celebrity-fellating content or GME go brrr or whatever other dumb inconsequential bandwagon shit is the order of the day. people argued with me when I said the antiwork 'movement' on there was built on a foundation of nothing and would go nowhere.

I'll never forget a particular sunny day in 2011 when I was riding the bus across town and heard two young women a few rows in front of me, apparently chatting about a bad date. one said "ugh, he probably hangs out on reddit" and they both lol'd dismissively. glad to say I did not (and do not) have a reddit account.

Overtime winner from last night. the guy who scored this goal has 5 OT winners in the playoffs in his career in only 14 OT games. there's 6 other players on that list but w/many more games. dude is clutch in the playoffs.

anyway.. nice goal. he out waits the goalie then backhand roofs it. i don't think he meditates but he could?..  experience and muscle memory. kinda ridiculous goal.

goddamn! wheel snipe celly, boys 😎

hockey was the only sport I liked playing as a kid (mom couldn't afford all the ice gear so i played roller hockey, but still). such a fun game. perfect balance of grace and violence imo

  8. there are two hookah hoses (and a very large hookah itself situated impossibly close to a fat man's crotch) and two Coors "LITE" cans in that image, suggesting the restaurant is giving both alcohol and shisha to young children as well as burgers that appear to be a half pound of beef and yeah no one in reality has ever grasped a burger like it's a bird that needs its wings held down to feel safe. how is this a convincing AI image lol

speech was so good i finished. now i feel dirty.. like i've betrayed my country. I'm going to have to marry that speech. make a baby with it. raise a family. put in an honest day's work for an honest day's pay. White picket fence. quilted toilet paper with triple layer action. electric lawnmower in the summer afternoon. iced tea on the porch. the neighbor's wife trimming the roses with her two husbands. the squirrels running in circles around a dead crow. Bin Laden dead. his corpse on a tray mounted to an air craft carrier. it tilts and his lifeless body slides into the ocean. a summer rain. the iridescent chemical swirl left on the wet street pavement by the garbage truck that collected pounds of single use plastic to take to a 100ft high landfill.

ah, it's a special poem just for me and we all get our own special poem known only to ourselves. a secret we take to the grave. never will another person understand anyone else's poem. individuals bathed in light reflected off a thousand dollar smile from the news anchor who's naked below the waste.

      Reveal hidden contents

didn't watch the speech. instead i filled my mouth with half-cooked wet rice and spit it onto the floor from the couch

I don't know what reaction to give this post but I'm glad you wrote it 👏

  11. why does the cookies notification disappear after like 1-2 seconds? no other sites I visit do this. I want to reject these trackers (and I'm assuming sites only offer the option cuz it's legally required? idk though) but it's like trying to catch a fly in my hands

I'm somewhat confused by these lists of things women like sometimes. Like are you actively revisiting lists that have to remind you to be curious about your partner? Heartfelt questions come from the obvious place. Not a list. Which I'm not saying you're doing, but sometimes I think people do that, and women can feel that I think. Like those weird "The Secret" techniques of hitting on women, godawful stuff. I'd say listen to your beautiful human that's coming along on your ride. Really listen. Ask her how her day was because all day you've been wondering how her day was and now she can finally tell you about it! It might have even sucked. But that doesn't matter. Because you just want to know what one of your favorite humans experienced. The most mundane experience told from the perspective of her can be like reading your favorite new book. Except you can bake your favorite book cakes and make it smile. Make her little notes and hide them in her clothes sometimes. Calender app works too 🙂 I wish I was more direct about my struggles with my ex honestly. At the time I was afraid it would be too much, which turned out to be the case anyways. Maybe looking at it together would've been the better choice still. Most definitely is. We only have this much time on this planet, and even less so with people we meet, so being honest even if it makes our little silly knees shake should always be worth trying

love this post and totally understand why lists seem weird, guess I just wanted to try to invite people to share their experiences of good relationship advice and you absolutely came through on that one!

  14. plz share experiences with partners past & present

    I have discovered:

    listen more than you talk,

    ask about mundane things,

then ask profound things (this may or may not plz any given lady)

take them places where they can dress for the occasion,

window shop even if you hate it. and get used to buying nothing in art galleries. they will in turn get used to you buying 12 books or records instead of one at the cool store you pretend not to haunt,

movie + dinner is a lame date unless you both love getting high and being weird in public, then it's pretty great,

trim and polish your fingernails ffs,

ask them how they get off when they're alone and follow their lead, cuz just like you, they know how to cum stupid hard, and you have a tongue that can reach farther than theirs,

fingers in the mouth is a more common turn-on than expected,

tell her what you want in every arena of life: your career, your relationship, your feelings for (or against) starting a family, your horniness, your emotional needs, your deepest intellectual fascinations - if she's into you, this will all be crucial information eventually.

don't fail to communicate any of these things, you'll just end up hurting one or both of you. be real.

ok, plz add helpful hints. I know this place is 90+% dudes but ladies pls chime in if you're here and okay with it
