i didn't try anything besides caffeine until i was about 20, then i tried a good many things. my friends were trying weed+booze around 16 or 17, i just kind of sat back and watched for a few years. eventually, i decided i wanted in. if you're ever in doubt about whether to take drugs, just wait until those doubts clear. it's a great rule that has served me well.

these days i like grass, psychedelics, and the occasional beer. booze is the only one of those i feel has a negative effect on me -- my mood and motivation. i drink less and less, these days. grass and psychedelics have their drawbacks, but the benefits far outweigh the negatives. i probably have mild OCD or something, really... back in the day i'd get out of bed three times because a pile of laundry wasn't folded right. i would only eat a very narrow range of foods. i was bad at listening to other people (and i still am). weed helps me with all this. it's a fucking relief; it allows me to let go of things that would usually get me worked up. if not for weed, i might have folded up inside myself like an inverted penis sock (as the saying goes on watmm). however, if you're the sort that's sloppy and doesn't give a fuck to start with, weed might not be to your benefit.

lsd is a great way to spend a saturday, i give it a lot of credit for helping me mature (emotionally, philosophically). i can never find a regular source; it just kind of shows up every now and then. if i could do it regularly, i'd probably have some every other weekend or two. shrooms are nice too, but after a couple years i've concluded that lsd is much better.

lsd is better than dxm, too... but dxm is really its own pop tart, and no one else's. it's a strange, strange afternoon. my consciousness becomes less attached to my body, i close my eyes and it feels like it's drifting up, rotating a bit, then maybe splits into a six-spoked wheel induced by the bass of the music i'm listening to. i start to develop strong sensations of telepathic communication, and reality appears to be at a 45-degree angle. the problem is, you have trouble remembering these intense parts -- it just fucks your memory with a 19" black rubber cock. body load is bad, i always get some serious diarrhea. i would puke too if not for knowing the nausea was coming and how to handle it (sit still and have a bong rip).

yeah, that's what i meant about lsd being better than shrooms. i've had many fantastic, 100% great shroom trips... in fact, almost all of them have been great. but, two or three were pretty harrowing experiences. never had a harrowing experience on acid, hence the conclusion!

i was bad at listening to other people (and i still am).

    what?

i'll get really into whatever i am talking about, the rest of reality atrophies as my mental circuits all jump aboard my current train of thought. meanwhile, whoever i'm rambling at is trying to get a word or two in edgewise. not a way to endear yourself to people really

Hat, you and I see eye to eye on many things.

The only bad acid trip I ever had was because I walked up to my mom and told her I was tripping.

  2. i dont think you can, i've never tried, the beep isn't that intrusive and i think it helps when editing... you could probably hack a switch to turn the internal speaker off

YEah I guess it could just be opened up and clip whatever wire led to the speaker that produces the noise.

  3. I was looking at mc-202's on ebay last night and hell they are getting to be expensive. I remember one going for like 330 bucks maybe 6-7 years ago. Analog fever is runnin strong.

Question though, if you read this, can you disable the beep that happens when you press the buttons on the 202? I feel that would really get to me after a while.

  4. see that'd be too many pictures for me cuz i make music all over the place. all that nonsense is my studio. That's my version of a room full of synths. Granted it's not as awe inspiring.

  5. yeah...this is my actual setup pretty much

Here's the rest of my setup atm:

I thought when I deleted all my pirated stuff a few years back that I would get some sort of satisfaction out of having the legal versions. I do in terms of functionality, reliability, and supporting developers, but it's just not the same as showing off a big ol knobby thing with keys :/

edit: synthi, phatmatik pro, and albino are demos.

  6. 48khz seems to imply to me that the analords were recorded originally to DAT

That would explain the hiss they all have.

yes i forgot that hiss can only come from analogue tape and not from hundreds of pieces of antiquated analogue gear aphex twin has in his studio

i love how the website has all this stuff that isn't available on physical format yet, labels should do this more often. Especially one like Rephlex where they don't really have to worry about making sure they promote a record too hard, so they don't have to coordinate the ad campaign with the phyiscal release date

edit: also awesome they list the BPM on every track, more dance centric people should do this.

Yarhar, why be such a dick? =\

im sorry if i was dickish, im just curious

being the nerd audio engineer that i am i can't think of any other reason why they would be in 48khz unless they were originally recorded that way. And it could very well be that he did record them onto tape and then transfer them to a DAT or protools or something

1/2" tape can record higher quality than 48khz and I'm sure Richard just picked 48khz as a good number when he recorded them into his computer. I would assume he either shipped, or hand delivered the master tapes to the vinyl pressing plant and they were returned or stored somewhere safe afterward. Rich has well beyond the means to have a nice 1/2" setup with a good console to accommodate.

  7. you must be on a high right now, first you get your musical inspiration back and then this update.

Can't wait for the downer next month :p

Yeah I was sitting here reading sound on sound with cubase open trying to make something useful of my time off and was totally feeling blah. Now I feel quite energized and excited a bit. :sorcerer:

  8. I dunno.... I tried an axiom pro at guitar center, and it felt like a horribly cheap piece of crap. plasticy, sticky knobs/sliders... uninspiring keys. all of it just felt awful.

well, yeah you're spot on, but in the price range they feel great compared to other stuff. At least the keys are a decent size. It's noisy as hell too. The keys are just clunkity and annoy me when my friend and I are working on stuff.

  9. there is a special place in hell for people that sell their nord modulars.

    :cisfor:

Well what happened was: I was going to buy it from my friend. So he let me go ahead and have it (while just paying when i had extra cash) since we've known each other forever and i gave him like 100 bucks on it at the get go. I was super psyched and loving it and it was all gravy. Then about a month later i went to give him another 50 and he's like "let me sell it so i can buy addictive drums and i'll give you my extra AD license to you". I couldn't really refuse that offer b/c addictive drums is best (acoustic) drum program I've ever used. He also gave me my 100 bucks back b/c he solditfor100 more than he was selling it to me :)

I will say this though. He got the NM in, errr....around 2000. I played with it everytime i was over at hisplace, and everytime we did a song together i requested being ableto use it, which i did and it was out of this world. However as the years have gone on and the g2 free software came out, going "back" to the g1 seemed kind of stale and i was missing a LOT of the features I've gotten used to in the g2 demo. Plus as silly as it seems, not having a good delay suddenly made a HUGE difference. I know its not hard to add a delay to the chain but there's just something about having it there in the signal chain, esp. the mod delays. So I wasn't that upset about it, except that I knew i wouldn't be able to afford a g2 any time soon. However I've just gotten a new job with an actual decent pay, full time...so if i'mvery careful with my money I should be able to get one in a few months. It's still my number one synth priority. I get lusty for other stuff, especially some of the dsi stuff, elektron, etc but I always go back to saying "but I have to buy a g2 first".

I went to the guitar center in atlanta when i was there to see family about 3 years ago..maybe more. I spent 2 full hours in the store, even asked the guy if he could hook it up to a laptop which he did (store was dead...day before thanksgiving i think). I sat there forever and it was set in stone from first hand experience that it is indeed a badass synth. And I didn't even get to process audio/vocals with it! I loved my NL 1 but when i got the waldorf xt i felt, for the time, pretty covered in the va area (was starting to get some vsts and have always had vaz modular since 99 or pretty much the yearit came out). However i really just miss the interface. I mean the sound is great too, that classic nord sound, plus the unison on the nl1 is much different (in a good way) than the 2, 3, and imo nm. But anyway, nl 1 is kinda limited. BUt the g2 (or g2x if i can FIND one) is part of that set up that i like, and it's not hard to build a nl 1 in the editor.

    /sini post

edit: sorry for some jumbled up words, my niece ripped my space bar off my laptop and it hasn't been the same since :(
