I must say: I really like the art.
I kept thinking while watching the video I really should look up the artist, but when checking the description afterward, it turns out the images are all generated using Midjourney AI. Cool, but damn.
Does anyone know the artist(s) on which this style is inspired?

  2. Celebrating James Webb Space Telescope first year since its first full-color image.

The first publicly released science-quality image from NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, revealed on July 11, 2022, is the deepest infrared view of the universe to date.

In this mosaic image stretching 340 light-years across, Webb’s Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) displays the Tarantula Nebula star-forming region in a new light, including tens of thousands of never-before-seen young stars that were previously shrouded in cosmic dust.

This image from Aug. 22, 2022, of the planet Jupiter comes from the near-infrared camera (NIRCam), which has three specialized infrared filters that showcase details of the planet. Since infrared light is invisible to the human eye, the light has been mapped onto the visible spectrum.

The Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex, the closest star-forming region to Earth is a relatively small, quiet stellar nursery, but you’d never know it from Webb’s chaotic close-up. Jets bursting from young stars crisscross the image, impacting the surrounding interstellar gas and lighting up molecular hydrogen, shown in red.

Data from ESA’s exoplanet mission Cheops has led to the surprising revelation that an ultra-hot exoplanet that orbits its host star (LTT 9779) in less than a day is covered by reflective clouds of metal, making it the shiniest exoplanet ever found.

  4. The European Space Agency’s (ESA )Euclid space telescope is launching today aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Florida’s Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
The objective of the Euclid mission is to better understand dark energy and dark matter by accurately measuring the acceleration of the universe.
To achieve this, the Korsch-type telescope will measure the shapes of galaxies at varying distances from Earth and investigate the relationship between distance and redshift.
Dark energy is generally accepted as contributing to the increased acceleration of the expanding universe, so understanding this relationship will help to refine how physicists and astrophysicists understand it.

  5. Played the Diablo 4 open beta during the weekend.

    Positives:
    • It's quite addicting. I could play for hours non-stop enjoying the game.
    • The game looks great. Graphical fidelity, performance, art style and atmosphere are all superb.
    • Sound effects and main narration was very good.
    • Lots of options in the menus, so you can play just like you want to play.
    • It's fun to easily and freely try out different skills / builds.
    • There's tons of loot. And it's fun to check what gear might work good together in combination with your skills.
    • Freeing castles/outposts in the open-world was really fun.
    • Tougher random elites in dungeons are fun. Give good loot.
    • Random open-world events are fun.
    • Big open-world events with other players are ok. Very good loot though.
    • A few nice story cinematics.
    • No hard crashes. Very few bugs. High quality.

    Negatives:
    • Main story and side stories felt kinda predictable / bland. I wish it was a bit more interesting / thought-provoking.
    • Most of the narrative is shown from a non-interactive top-down perspective. I wish it was all more engaging / dramatic.
    • It's very easy. I played on veteran. Only 1 boss -for which I was under-leveled- felt challenging. Butcher too.
    • The music was meh. And not very memorable. Playing without the in-game music was better.
    • Some classes felt extremely powerful, while others felt very weak or even tedious. Needs some balancing for sure.
    • Gameplay is nothing revolutionary. Just what you can expect from a hack-and-slash action-RPG.
    • Dungeons can feel very copy-paste. A bit dull.
    • Often it felt like you can just play on auto-pilot a bit too much.
    • Rubber-banding / stuttering / hitching in cities with other players.
    • I want the option to play offline.

I had fun during this beta, but I seem to no longer really like the game genre all that much any more.

  6. AI generated art of Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Elden Ring games in 1980s dark fantasy movie style.
    Absolutely amazing. So incredible.

I think the developments in AI art in 2022 will be considered a massive milestone in art history, whether one likes it or not.
Obviously many professional artists have already raised concerns about authorship/copyright (the use of existing copyrighted art within AI training datasets) and the future of their jobs. (to make a living from making art)
In any case, from now on, massive amounts of high-quality art can be made in a short amount of time, for next to nothing, by practically anyone knowing which prompts to use and which results to select and refine.
This might become a profession on its own.
I myself have drawn all my life. More as a hobby, not to make a living, although I tried, somewhat.
I could never have imagined that software could create such things. I thought it was impossible.
    But here we are.
I honestly kind of envy it for its seemingly wild imagination and its high quality.
I really can see AI art software starting to replace professional artists in the coming years.
It might actually be safer and wiser for professional artists to embrace this new technology/tool and use it rather than fight it, as, I'm afraid, it's rise is inevitable.
Throughout history many artists have used technology to create groundbreaking art.
From now on, any new image you see on the web and in real life could have been made by or with the help of AI.
People don't yet realize how massive this is / will be.
I feel very conflicted. It's scary, but at the same time very very exciting.

  7. What a clusterfuck. What's Elon's plan here?
I hope the cesspool of replies below his tweets are not a reflection of his intentions for the platform.
Although I never really was a big enthusiast of twitter (or most other social media for that matter), I find Elon's decision-making so far not indicating a net positive.
Maybe, in his mind, it will eventually become a positive for his ultimate end goals, whatever they may be in his head?
Is he just trolling twitter-users (and to an extent society)? Having a laugh with us commoners.
Does he want to create disruption? With the idea for him to come out on top in the end. Making twitter his tool for opinion-making.
    Something something free speech?
Maybe it's all just for the sake of his wallet? Making things as profitable as possible. (But he is scaring away advertisers for now.)
Are his decisions all carefully pre-calculated or just spurs of the moment looking for what sticks?
The whole thing is entertaining and baffling at the same time for the outside-observer.
